Mutambara resigned from Zanu PF for "breach of sacred values" - dismissing Mujuru. By Wilbert Mukori

Some people never learn; especially the hypocrites who are renowned for their every selective view of life, they see only what they want to see and filters out the rest. If you do not learn from the past, you are destined to go through life blundering from one mistake to the next and, very often, repeating the same mistakes over and over again!

“It was the unilateral dismissal of Mujuru from Zanu PF and the purging that followed that convinced me that Zanu PF had breached the basic tenets of democracy and had turned itself into an autocratic and repressive regime. For that reason, I announced my resignation from Zanu PF to join ZPF.” Retired Brigadier-General Agrippa Mutambara told Daily News reporter Farayi Machamire.

“I am disappointed that the sacred democratic values that I hold dear are once again being violated by the dismissals and promised purging taking place in ZPF.”

The sheer hypocrisy of Agrippa is astonishing!

We are talking of Zanu PF here, a regime that, for the last 34 years he was a member of, destroyed the nation’s economy through mismanagement, corruption and lawlessness such as the violent seizure of white-owned farms to give to Zanu PF cronies. On the political front, the regime systematically undermined the country’s democratic institutions and denied the people their freedoms and basic human rights including the right to a meaningful vote and even the right to life. In the 34 years, the regime murdered over 30 000 innocent Zimbabweans for selfish political gain!

We are to believe that Comrade Agrippa Mutambara did not see any wrong with all the abuse of power and tyrannical repression by the Zanu PF regime. However, his democratic values were offended beyond measure when Mugabe booted Mujuru out of the party. Only a hypocrite like him would see the tick on the elephant but not see the elephant itself!

Agrippa, like the rest his ZPF friends, did not see anything wrong with Zanu PF corruption and tyranny as long as they got their share of the looted wealth and they were counted with the ruling elite. They did not care that the regime was riding roughshod over the masses, denying them their freedom, human dignity and hope.

It was only after ZPF people were booted out of Zanu PF which meant losing their privileges and position on the gravy train feeding trough that they saw Zanu PF for what it is a corrupt and tyrannical regime. Sadly, the ZPF people, being the harden hypocrites they are, would only see corruption and tyrannical tendencies in the Zanu PF they left behind and see nothing wrong with the party they were members of or their own role in it.

ZPF members elected Joice Mujuru as the new party’s leaders because they did not see anything wrong with her leadership all the 34 years they were together in Zanu PF. Whilst they felt their own individual interests were being served, she was a good leader but things quickly changed when their individual interests were threatened.

“As a decent human being, I have respect for Mujuru. But as a leader I find her indecisive and clueless.” Was Mutambara’s explanation why he and others were now critical of Mujuru as the party leader.

He is right that Mai Mujuru’s an indecisive and clueless leader; her 34 years track record in Zanu PF speaks volumes of her as a corrupt and incompetent leader. Her excuse for saying and doing nothing to stop the corruption and tyranny during her years at the heart of the Zanu PF dictatorship is that her “puppy eyes” had not opened. Only a fool would believe that nonsense.

Indeed, the charges for “the baby dumping” of Joice Mujuru in 2014 that struck a code with everyone were that she was corrupt, lazy and incompetent.

So, Agrippa and his fellow ZPF founding fathers and mothers elected Mujuru president of ZPF knowing fully well that she was corrupt, lazy, incompetent, indecisive, clueless, etc. just as they have all remained doggedly loyal to Mugabe knowing he is an incompetent, corrupt and murderous dictator. Just as with Mugabe, Mujuru’s faults did not matter as long as she helped them get back on the gravy train!

It was the hypocrisy in Agrippa and the other ZPF members that stopped them seeing Joice Mujuru as the corrupt and incompetent individual she is. ZPF members are not interested in bring about meaningful democratic change in Zimbabwe what they want is to turn back the clock to a Zimbabwe ruled by to ZPF a complete replica of Zanu PF before 2014. Mujuru, Mutasa, etc. would all want to step back in their old offices and carry on from where they left off when they were booted out.

If anyone believes that Zanu PF was a democratic party, as Mujuru, Mutambara and the others clearly do, that lost its democratic credentials only when it booted out the ZPF members; then, yes, they can embrace Mujuru & co. as democrats. The truth is, ZPF is but Zanu PF in all but name because there is no substantive difference between the Zanu PF of Mujuru’s days and one afterwards. It is the same incompetent, corrupt, vote rigging and tyrannical dictatorship. The only change is that whilst Mujuru and others were the beneficiaries of the regime’s misrule before 2014 upheaval they have since joined us the masses in becoming its victims.

Those who believe ZPF are going to bring about the democratic changes we have been dying for are deluding themselves. Mai Mujuru, Agrippa Mutambara and the other ZPF members are fighting to recreate the Zanu PF dictatorship made them rich and powerful; they have nothing against corruption, vote rigging, etc. as long as they are benefiting from it all.

Democracy and freedom have remained as elusive as the mirage lake because we have developed a knack for electing the most incompetent and corrupt leaders who all betrayed the common good foe their own selfish interests. After a bitter civil war, we elected Mugabe and his Zanu PF thugs to lead and from the word go the tyrant has worked tirelessly to create this corrupt and tyrannical Zanu PF one-party dictatorship. You think the nation would have learned from the Zanu PF tyranny; wrong, because we went on to elect Tsvangirai and his MDC friends, some of the most corrupt and incompetent politicians in human history.

MDC were tasked to implement the reforms designed to stop Zanu PF rigging the elections, they failed to get even one reform implemented in five years of the GNU. Mugabe bribed them with the trappings of high office, a former white-owned farm for Welshman Ncube and a $4 million Highlands mansion for Tsvangirai and MDC leaders “were enjoying themselves they forgot why they were in the GNU”, as SADC leaders commented in sheer exasperation!

Sadly, the nation has still not learned the importance of electing quality leaders. If we did, then no one would even consider Joice Mujuru and her ex-Zanu PF friends worth listening to given their 34-year track record of corruption and incompetence. The factional fighting taking place in ZimPF will remind those who thought Mujuru & co have changed to think again!

Mugabe murders over 30 000 and Agrippa Mutambara thinks nothing of it. The tyrant then dismisses Mujuru from the party and Mutambara resigns in protest at the serious “breach of sacred of democratic values”! What an insult to both the living and the dead!

  1. During the 34 years Agrippa Mutambara was a Zanu PF member and actively supporting the regime's dirty politics the regime brought economic ruin through misrule and murdered over 30 000 innocent Zimbabweans. Mutambara saw nothing wrong but when Mujuru was dismissed he resigned in protest for "breach of sacred democratic values"! What an insult to those now living in abject poverty and the dead victims of political murders!

Mutambara's words and the in fighting tearing ZimPF apart must be a wake up call to all those who thought Mujuru and her fellow ex-Zanu PF members had changed, they were democrats. Where is the "Damascean moment" Tsvangirai was wittering about when he and Tendai Biti were wooing Mujuru to join them in a coalition!

ZimPF is imploding because it has corrupt and incompetent individuals. The party was the game changer, we were told; as ex-Zanu PF members, Mujuru and company will know how Zanu PF rigged past elections and thus stop the vote rigging. Bikita West by-election showed that ZimPF members did not know Zanu PF rigged election and/or did not know how to stop the rigging. And now ZimPF is imploding, putting to bed all such talk!

Tsvangirai has no clue how to stop Zanu PF rigging elections as we all saw in the 2013 elections. It is totally dishonest and naive to think MDC will do any better next years!

Tsvangirai and the opposition MUST do the "obvious", as Senator Coltart admitted before the 2013 elections, thing and withdraw for contesting flawed elections until reforms are implemented. in 2014 all the MDC factions resolved "No reform, no elections!" We must force these sell-outs, for the first time ever, to honour their promise!

Zimbabwe cannot afford another rigged elections!

  2. There are many clear cut cases such as the blatant use of threats to get people to vote for Zanu PF that are worth fighting than this bond notes issue.

The regime is already at sixes and sevens on the bond notes because it is just a matter of time before the bond notes start losing its value compared to the US$! So why fight the regime over a matter the regime is already fighting a losing battle!

Mujuru is corrupt and incompetent, there is no denying this now!

  3. @ Kaitano

This talk of opposition coalition is just a waste of time! Did Tsvangirai lose the 2013 elections because the opposition vote was divided? No! He lost because Mugabe blatantly rigged the elections.

Which part of “Zanu PF rigs elections!” are you failing to understand?

“Towards the end of 2016, Professor Ncube pointed out the things that needed to be considered in selecting the Presidential candidate to represent the opposition. His major point was that the party with the biggest following had to be the party to nominate a presidential candidate. This tallies with my earlier argument,” you say, for example.

How would that help stop Zanu PF rigging the next elections again?

We need to stop people like Tsvangirai contesting flawed elections and then complaining afterwards that “Mugabe stole the vote!” as he has done countless times in the past. By participating these people give the elections a veneer of democratic credibility. Mugabe never tires of boasting that he won 62% of the popular vote in 2013 and will never admit to getting even one vote from the hooded supporters we will saw being bussed from one polling station to the next casting multiple votes.

Tsvangirai and his MDC friends sold-out during the GNU by failing to implement even one democratic reform. They take part in these flawed elections just to win the few seats Zanu PF throws away to entice opposition parties to contest. How long are we going to allow these opposition politicians sell-out on our right to free and fair elections?

Zanu PF detractors did a good job in managing to make Tsvangirai forget about implementing any reforms for five years of the GNU by making him and his MDC friends they will win the 2013 elections “regardless of all Zanu PF’s vote rigging shenanigans,” as Tsvangirai later admitted. This time the detractors are pushing the formation of the grand coalition as the game changer to defeat the Zanu PF vote rigging juggernaut. Only fools will believe that nonsense!

The issue here is about making sure election are free and fair; keep your eyes on the ball and not be distracted by a fly – opposition coalition!

  4. You are right many people do not care about a leader's ability but look how many times have those people been betrayed by such leaders.

Those of us who know ability is important must take the responsibility to educate the myopic ones who continue to elect corrupt and incompetent people like Tsvangirai and Mujuru as leaders of their folly. The Zimbabwe situation is such a mess that many people are beginning to question the ability of people like Tsvangirai and hence the reason why Tsvangirai has failed to attract the huge crowds of 2013.

You can convince a blindman he is having rice and not maize samp but not so with hot chilli, he will know the difference. Many Zimbabweans know that Tsvangirai fcuked big time, they may not know how and when, just as they know Mugabe fcuked big time but cannot explain.

The people are ready to learn what they need to look for in the leaders who will get them out of the hell-hole. What has been lacking is the teachers to point them in the right direction!

  5. When ZimPF joined the opposition people thought the party with its inside information on Zanu PF will stop the later rigging the elections. What happened in Bikita West by-elections where Zanu PF carried on with its dirty tactics as if ZimPF were not there showed Mujuru and company are just as useless as the rest of the opposition. Now with ZimPF imploding the party is losing all credibility as a coalition partner.

So, we are back to where we started before ZimPF arrived on the stage, with an opposition that has already proven in effective at stopping Zanu PF rigging the 2013 elections. The call for implementing the reforms before holding elections is now back on the national agenda.

Any opposition candidate who participate in the elections and they are rigged will be held accountable for it because they have been warned it will happen!
