"We have learned the GNU lessons!" insist Chamisa. Would not be participating in flawed elections for umpteenth time! W Mukori

It is bad enough that we should find ourselves ruled by corrupt, incompetent and murderous thugs whose only priority is to secure absolute power and retain it at all cost. Of course, they know that in securing absolute power for themselves they have ridden roughshod over the ordinary people’s freedoms and rights, hopes and dreams. They can see the consequences of Zimbabwe as a failed nation in the country’s failure to provide basic services such as clean running water, education and health care. Millions of ordinary Zimbabweans, 49% of the population and rising, are living in abject poverty.

President Mnangagwa and his Zanu PF ruling elite and their cronies can see the tragic human suffering brought about by their failed leadership and they don’t care!

What makes our situation a double tragedy is that the men and women the people have entrusted the important task of ending the Zanu PF dictatorship, the MDC/CCC opposition, have not only turned out to be corrupt and incompetent but, to crown it all, incapable of learning from their own mistakes. MDC/CCC will never ever deliver the democratic changes the nation has been dying for because even when would say “Surely they must have finally learned the lesson!” They have again and again shown that they have not learned.

The primary purpose of the 2008 to 2013 Government of National Unity (GNU) was to implement the raft of democratic reforms and dismantle the Zanu PF dictatorship including the regime’s carte blanche powers to rig elections. Of course, the task of implementing the reforms was left to Morgan Tsvangirai and his MDC friends, naturally. One did not expect Zanu PF to reform themselves out of office.

It is one of the darkest episodes in Zimbabwe’s history that not even one token reform was implemented in the five years of the 2008 to 2013 GNU. It has been ten years now since the end of that GNU with the country well and truly stuck because we cannot remove Zanu PF from offices because the party still enjoys its draconian powers to rig elections, the need for a new GNU so we can implement the reforms would be obvious to all, especially to the errant MDC/CCC leaders.

"We learnt our lesson, there won't be any GNU before or after elections. Let us win resoundingly in local authorities where we will restore Executive Mayors, let's have parliamentary majority in the coming elections,” replied Nelson Chamisa when the subject of a new GNU was raised.

"As a new political party, we performed exceptionally well in recent by-elections clinching 89 out of 132 wards which were being contested while for MPs we managed to win 19 out of 28 up for grabs. That was an indicator we can win all the way up to president."

Here we go again. How can we make any meaningful progress if we cannot even agree on historic facts, reality and truth!

The watershed 2008 elections established that Zanu PF had captured and corrupted the country’s state institutions such as ZEC, the Police, judiciary, etc. They were Zanu PF departments in all but name as they were now reprogrammed to keep Zanu PF in power at all costs. The 2008 to 2013 GNU offered the nation the golden opportunity to sever the umbilical cords giving Zanu PF ownership and control of ZEC, etc.

It is infuriating that Chamisa claims to have learned the GNU lessons when he has not:

1)     Chamisa and his MDC friends sold out by failing to implement even one token reform when they had the golden opportunity to do so during 2008 to 2013 GNU.

2)     Ever since the GNU debacle, they have dragged the nation into flawed elections only to give Zanu PF legitimacy, by falsely claiming to have strategies to win these Zanu PF Mafiosi rigged elections. They are at it again this year; they claim they will win big elections in which there are no verified voters’ roll, Zanu PF has cherry picked to deny three million Zimbabweans in the diaspora the vote, etc. Zimbabwe cannot afford to grant Zanu PF legitimacy and perpetuate the dictatorship even another five more years.

3)     Chamisa and company have been too corrupt and incompetent to implement even one democratic reform but we can be certain they will appreciate the services of the corrupted ZEC officials whose loyalty is not to Zanu PF per se but to the highest bidder! Even if CCC or some other party was to end the Zanu PF dictatorship this year or in the future; without implementing the democratic reforms the spectre of rigged elections will hang over the nation like the sword of Damocles.

There is a mountain of evidence already than Zanu PF is rigging the 2023 elections, to stay in power in the face of the worsening economic meltdown, President Mnangagwa has no choice but to rig the elections. Still, the mountain of evidence of the rigging is now so big he cannot ignore it nor can SADC.

If SADC refused to endorse Zanu PF’s election victory in these 2023 elections and thus grant Zanu PF political legitimacy, as they did in 2008; then Zimbabwe will need a new GNU arrangement. An outcome President Mnangagwa dreads because even he must know that whoever presides over this new GNU, be it SADC or the UN, they will want the democratic reforms implemented without failure this time.

The number one lesson of the 2008 GNU that everyone including Zanu PF ruling elite have learned is that it was a treasonous act of betrayal to fail to implement the democratic reforms. It is not surprising that Chamisa and company have either failed to learn the lesson and/or are in denial. Not that it matters; MDC/CCC have proven they are corrupt, incompetent and utterly useless; they are now irrelevant.

Chief Fortune Charumbira’s suggestion that Zanu PF and CCC should meet and agree to cancel 2023 elections and go into a GNU arrangement is not as flippant as it first appears. Zanu PF would rather mark its own homework, condemn the 2023 elections and not have to wait for SADC leaders to do it. By pre-empting SADC’s judgement Zanu PF can claim the election is still a Zimbabwe internal affairs matter into which the regional body should play no part. Zanu PF will have a fighting chance to cherry pick GNU partners and, most important of all, to make sure at the end of the new GNU few, if any, reforms are implemented.

To a simpleton like Chief Charumbira if Mnangagwa and Chamisa agreed cancel elections and go into a GNU then that is the end of the matter. President Mnangagwa must know by blatantly rigging these elections was running the risk of being caught and called out as happened in 2008. But for him to brazenly cancel the elections, just weeks before the elections, will leave no one in any doubt he did so because he knew he going to lose! Not even ANC government that has vowed “to stop regime change in Zimbabwe!” would want to endorse such a kamikaze act political banditry.

Zanu PF has held Zimbabwe to ransom for 43 years and counting. No one has the divine right to rule, given political will and resolve the Zanu PF dictatorship can finally be dismantled. Enough is enough!

  1. CITIZENS' Coalition for Change (CCC) leader, Nelson Chamisa has ruled out any prospects of a Government of National Unity (GNU) with Zanu-PF led by President Emmerson Mnangagwa, before or after general elections expected between July and August.

Addressing his supporters at the party's offices in Chinhoyi Monday, Chamisa urged the electorate to vote in numbers in order to ensure CCC gains total control of urban and rural councils, Parliament and Senate.
In 2017 MDC endorsed the military coup as soon as Chris Mutsvangwa told the party leaders Mnangagwa would include them in a GNU. Tsvangirai left his SA hospital bed in a huffy. Chamisa will do the same if he was offered that chance. All MDC/CCC leaders care for is power and they don’t care that the new GNU imposed by Zanu PF will never implement any meaningful removes.
The people of Zimbabwe must now realised that MDC/CCC are so corrupt, incompetent and utterly useless, they will never implement even one meaningful reform. Chamisa and company are now irrelevant to Zimbabwe!

  2. Chitando, your shallow mindedness never seize to amaze me. The looting Al Jazeera is talking about did not start a year ago or since the 2017 military coup. It has been going on for decades of years including the GNU years.
In 2012 the late Edward Chindori-Chininga revealed a parliamentary report the wholesale looting of diamonds in Marange. You were an MP for Masvingo Urban then and you did nothing about it. Indeed, it was your MDC leader Tsvangirai who down played the looting by giving a contrary report. Tsvangirai was seen of a Ocean Cruise ship a few weeks later, we all know he did not have the money to pay for the trip and no prize for guessing who paid his bill!
You and your CCC friend are participating in these flawed elections not because you want to end Zanu PF misrule but because you want a share of the looting! Zanu PF is rigging these elections and you are participating to give the regime legitimacy for the sake of 30 pieces of silver. This is the nightmare the nation is dealing with and, unfortunately there are millions of ordinary Zimbabweans who are too naïve to see you and your CCC friends for the sell outs you are!

“EFF controls a dangerous segment of society, unemployed and unemployable who have no stake in whatever is working in SA, and if not carefully handled they will destroy SA.”
One of the reasons why blacks have never made any meaningful progress is because we have no respect for truth, reality, rational thinking and reason. Malema like Mugabe before him , has nothing of substance to say and that is what makes him so appealing. To the empty-headed anarchy is as sweet as honey.

Malema is a demagogue and per se incapable of rational thinking much less strategic thinking. The Malema star would have never even risen if ANC had the good fortune of quality leadership like the late Nelson Mandela. In the chaos and confusion of mediocre leaders like Mbeki, Zuma and now Ramaphosa it is easy to see why the upstart Malema was noticed! The failure by ANC and DA to offer solid solutions to the country's problems has made chaos and anarchy look like a very attractive alternative!
In Zimbabwe we had the misfortune of having our own, home grown J Malema, in Robert Mugabe and look what a mess we are in! 43 years of corrupt, tyrannical and chaotic Zanu PF misrule has the left the country in ruins and political paralysis – politics has been made such a dirty game only thugs have survived and they have no clue how to dig the nation out on the mess.

“I disagree. The number one reason we haven't made any serious progress is because we lack self respect and we wait for the Western world to dictate to us what truth is, the sad thing is that they use some of is to push that narrative.2
So, what is the truth on elections, for example, can we have free and fair elections without implementing the democratic reforms?
I do agree with you on the lack of self respect among blacks. You are talking of the West using blacks to push certain narratives. So, you don’t think those blacks are pushing the narrative because the believe in it; they are nothing more than a mere puppet doing a white man’s bidding. If that is not being disrespectful of the follow black, I don’t know what is.
Of course, the tactic of attacking the messenger is all very well for directing attention away from the message. It becomes a serious impediment when it is all we do and we have serious issues to be addressed!
Zimbabwe is in a serious economic and political mess and labelling anyone who dares criticise Zanu PF as a white racist, if he/she happen to be white, or a western puppet if black is not going to get us out of the mess! We must slam down these demagogues and force them to address the message and stop wasting time on the messenger.

“Mugabe despite his flaws was respected all over the world. He was the only African leader aiudza ma Europeans in their faces the hard truth.”
Mugabe instituted the Gukurahundi massacre to force PF Zapu to sign the 1987 Unity Accord and pave the way for imposing the de facto one party dictatorship. His reign of terror has left the country in total economic ruins and political paralysis because the political system he created and fostered on the nation has allowed thugs and village idiots to get into power – they have no clue what to do to get the country out of the mess! These are very serious flaws and the nation have paid dearly for his faults.
Only an idiot will forgive Mugabe for destroying the nations just because took on the whites in all these endless shadow boxing matches. But there are many village idiots who believed him. He bankrupted the nation with his corruption and mismanagement and blamed the economic meltdown on white imposed sanctions and the village idiots believed that too!
The hard truth people who believed Mugabe was a hero need to hear is that they are village idiots who think leaders are demigods who do no wrong and cannot be held to account be mere mortals! Yes, the village idiots must be told the home truth straight to their faces!

“A year ago, I felt called to help stranded Zimbabweans (a few Nigerians & Ghanaians) in #Ukraine find their way out of the war.
I worked alongside a small team of dedicated fellow citizens & great work was accomplished.
It was literally 24hrs a day & with a newborn in the house. I’m proud of the work and sacrifice made to help those citizens get out safely.
Together, outside political party jackets we can accomplish so much more for #Zimbabwe
    #ProsperityIsPossible.”
I you think you are helping Zimbabwe get out of the mess by participating in the election process so flawed winning 73% of the vote is not good enough to deliver change? You are participating to give Zanu PF legitimacy and get in return a few gravy train seats on offer as bait. You are fighting for the share of the spoils of power just like Chamisa and others. So, stop pretending you care about the long suffering povo, you don’t! OK!

“Ian Smith, your god, had no idea what he was talking about. He had no basis. He relied too heavily on borrowed strength. Smith seriously overlooked the desire by the black majority to untangle themselves from the reckless oppressors. All that was left was a date with destiny. The day eventually came. Now past.”
So, Smith is now my God because I dared to criticise Zanu PF? Your stupidity of the Mugabe days has not mellowed even now with the benefit of hindsight you still think no mere mortal can hold Mugabe or Mnangagwa to account!
It is a great pity that MDC leaders sold out by failing to implement the democratic reform when they had the golden opportunity to do so. The Zanu PF thugs and their nincompoop supporters have been in power far too long and the damage and suffering they have cause is heart breaking. We really need to get them out of power a.s.a.p.!

“The truth on elections is that every participant gains something except for the voting public. Zanu PF retains power, MDC/CCC retains relevance, sympathy and the financial assistance that comes with it.”
That is half the truth! The other half is that MDC/CCC sold out on implementing the democratic reforms design to end the Zanu PF dictatorship for a share of the gravy train good life. Mugabe bribed Tsvangirai and company with the trapping of high office; the generous salaries and allowances, the ministerial limos, the US$4 million highland mansion for Tsvangirai, etc.; and they forgot about the reforms. MDC/CCC have given up on reforms and free elections and will participate in these flawed elections to give Zanu PF legitimacy in return for the few gravy train seats offered as bait. They will promise the long suffering povo change knowing fully well that there will be no meaningful change without first implementing the democratic reforms.
The voting public have not risked life and limb to elect MDC/CCC leaders so that they can betray them on reforms and good governance for 30 pieces of silver, of that we can be certain. It is for povo to open their eyes and see for themselves that MDC/CCC are now hunting with the hounds and pretend to run with the hare! If they do not open their eyes they will be no end to their suffering.

“You write it in such a manner that if it comes to pass you shall find some inner contentment in your heart...”
And you write it like someone who knows that Zanu PF is indeed rigging these elections, knows that participating will only give Zanu PF legitimacy but do it regardless out of sheer stupidity. You are angry with me for exposing your stupidity and will use every trick in the book to silence me.
I am not here to massage your misplaced ego and so will tell you in plain language that you are stupid and that your stupidity is what is keeping Zanu PF in power. Stop being stupid because I will not stop telling you are stupid until you do. The nation’s very survival is at stake and all because of your foolishness! Stop it!

  11. Kamlesh Pattni kept Arap Moi in power by using the money from looted gold to buy off Moi opponents. Has he and his fellow gold Mafia been doing the same in Zimbabwe? It would explain why MDC/CCC have failed to implement even one token reforms even when they had the golden opportunity to do so and are hell bent in participating in these flawed elections. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fkNue6IoGws.
