"Respect the will of the people" said Chiwenga - cynicism of the bully, blatantly rigged the elections P Guramatunhu

“We appeal to all political actors to respect the will of the people….we need to appreciate at every level that in the Second Republic the economy comes first before politics and as members of Zanu-PF you should make sure you lead the cadres in Government to do what we would have agreed here. It becomes imperative for all of us to be aware that we work for the people and national good before those of individuals,” said VP Chiwenga.

Chiwenga was speaking at the Zanu PF Annual People’s Conference, in Goromonzi.

This is as cynical as the village bully who keeps trading on everyone else’s toes and feelings and yet insist he is the peacemaker!

Zanu PF blatantly rigged last year’s elections. The party denied 3 million Zimbabweans in the diaspora the vote, Mnangagwa says he won the elections with 2.4 million votes. ZEC failed to produce something as basic as a verified voters’ roll, for Pete’s sake.

The EU, Commonwealth and all the other nations and organisation with a democratic record have all condemned last year’s elections as a farce. “The electoral commission lacked full independence and appeared to not always act in an impartial manner. The final results as announced by the Electoral Commission contained numerous errors and lacked adequate traceability, transparency and verifiability,” stated the EU Observer Mission final report.

“Many aspects of the 2018 elections in Zimbabwe failed to meet international standards.”

So, last year’s elections process “failed to meet international standards of transparency, traceability and verifiability”. Zanu PF, as the party in government, was responsible for making sure the elections process met all the international standards and thus passed the free, fair and credible acid test with flying colours. It is nonsense to suggest such a flawed and illegal electoral process could ever produce a legitimate result.

In other words, Zanu PF can claim it was the winner of last year’s elections and therefore has the people’s mandate to govern; this will not change the facts on the ground that last year’s election process was flawed and illegal and therefore this Zanu PF regime is illegitimate!

Zanu PF has blatantly rigged elections in the past and we have, foolishly, allowed the party to get away with it setting a very dangerous precedence. As we can see, the party has not only rigged elections but now considers it as its right to rig elections!

After 39 years of rigged elections, the disastrous economic and political consequences of the decades of misrule and the country now in economic ruins, the need to break the vicious cycle of rigged elections and bad governance is now a matter of life and death. Zanu PF rigged last year’s elections and the party must be forced to step down so the nation can implement the necessary reforms to stop vote rigging - this is not negotiable.

  1. This is just plan stupidity and only the naive and gullible will ever buy into the nonsense that a mere hand shake will transform this corrupt, incompetent and tyrannical Zanu PF dictatorship into a competent democratic regime.

MDC leaders are desperate to sell the idea of the National Transition Authority as a panacea to the nation's current economic crisis but only because the MDC leaders are desperate to get back on the gravy train. The last GNU failed to get even one reform implemented and this NTA will not do any better.

Zimbabwe is a pariah state ruled by corrupt and vote rigging thugs, MDC has given this illegitimate regime some credibility by participating in the flawed elections and now by proposing this NTA rubbish. Zanu PF is illegitimate and must step down. MDC must stop messing around and shut up!

  2. Picture- Kirsty Coventry At Zanu Pf Annual People’s Conference.

Zimbabwe has more than its fair share of sell-outs, per capita, and hence the reason the country is in such a mess. Both Mugabe and Mnangagwa has never had any problems recruiting Zimbabweans to do the window dressing and prop up the dictatorship.

White Zimbabweans sided with Ian Smith's oppressive regime because they are whites. Coventry is working with this oppressive Zanu PF dictatorship because she is paid and paid well to do it!

  3. Chamisa has confirmed Dr Ibbo Mandaza's claim that SADC did advise MDC not to take part in the 2013 elections without reforms but the advice was ignored. He did not admit why MDC ignored the advice, David Coltart did in his book.

“The worst aspect for me about the failure to agree a coalition was that both MDCs couldn’t now do the obvious – withdraw from the elections,” said David Coltart in his book.

“The electoral process was so flawed, so illegal, that the only logical step was to withdraw, which would compel SADC to hold Zanu PF to account. But such was the distrust between the MDC-T and MDC-N that neither could withdraw for fear that the other would remain in the elections, winning seats and giving the process credibility.”

In the 2018 elections, Chamisa himself insisted in contesting the elections with no reforms in place. "MDC has stringent measures to stop Zanu PF rigging the elections!"

MDC has long stop being champion of the cause of democratic change and free, fair and credible election in Zimbabwe and have been pursuing selfish goals. The sooner the world accepts that MDC is now running with the hare but hunting with the Zanu PF hounds.

  4. Read Biti's statement below:

The naive dream of ZANU is that miraculously things will change for the better and a turnaround will occur .Truth is this will not happen. Fundamental structural reforms required starting with resolution of crises of legitimacy. Thereinafter governance and socio-economic reforms

Sadly, for Zimbabwe this class of 2019 is easily the most incompetent, most corrupt and most predatory group of cretins that have ever coalesced around power anywhere anytime.

The country is not a prophesy waiting fulfilment Industry dialogue, trade-offs and sacrifices must be made now.

There is a distinct touch of desperation in these tweets and it has nothing to do with the need implement reforms and to arrest the country’s worsen economic situation; these are being used as smoke screens.

It must be remembered that MDC had the best opportunity to implement the reforms during the 2008 to 2013 GNU and they failed to get even one reform in place. The National Transition Authority (NTA), they are asking for now will not get even one reform implemented.

MDC are desperate for the NTA because it will give Chamisa, Biti and a few other select few MDC leaders a chance to get back on the gravy train. They are so desperate to get back on the gravy train they have even dropped their demand for an international mediator in favour for a local Zanu PF stooge like Mutendi.

This Zanu PF regime, ie Mnangagwa and his MPs and not just Mnangagwa, is illegitimate because last year’s election process was flawed and illegal. The suggestion that MDC can resolve this legitimacy crisis, for a price naturally, is nonsense. It is not for MDC to grant legitimacy to Zanu PF or anyone else.

MDC sold-out big time during the 2008 GNU by failing to implement the reforms. We must not allow these sell-out to do so once again by selling legitimacy for gravy train seats. Zanu PF must step down to allow the reforms to be implemented properly.

  5. By rigging the elections Mnangagwa confirm Zimbabwe's position as a pariah state the suggestion that a mere handshake can turn the illegitimate regime into a legitimate one is laughable!

  6. We have heard this nonsense countless time from these Zanu PF thugs, they blatantly rig the elections and then they are out masquerading as the world's greatest champions of the people's democratic will. So we ending up in this nonsensical position where Zanu PF blatantly rigs elections and claims the moral high ground of defending the people's democratic rights!

Chiwenga is asking the opposition to respect the people's democratic wishes, Zanu PF; when in fact Zanu PF disregarded the people's democratic wishes by imposing itself on the nation. No Zanu PF must respect the people's democratic wishes and step down because the party rigged last year's elections and has no mandate to govern.

    Zimbabwe is a pariah state!
