"We come to certify died bodies" cried Dr Mashumba - crocodile tears never move Mnangagwa N Garikai

“Senior doctors at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals yesterday narrated to the minister of Health Obadiah Moyo, of the horrors and deaths occurring everyday at major hospitals because of acute shortages of drugs and hospital consumables,” reported Bulawayo 24.

“The medical practitioners yesterday embarked on a public protest demanding government's speedy intervention citing that the situation has forced them to scale down their services except for dire emergencies only. Moyo met the doctors at Parirenyatwa during their protest.

“Raising concern on behalf of the distraught doctors Azza Mashumba, a paediatrician, wept before Moyo as she narrated how several patients had lost lives due to the lethargy from authorities in dealing with the situation.  "We are coming to certify dead bodies…," she said.

What is sickening about this story is:

1.               that Dr Mashumba has allowed the situation to get this bad that patients and suffering and dying needlessly

2.               that Dr Mashumba should feel so helpless that her only course of action was to cry.

3.               Zimbabwe’s economic collapse and that of its health services and other basic service did not take place over night as a result of an earthquake or some such catastrophic event; it has happen over the last 38 years. 38 years of corrupt, incompetent and tyrannical rule by this Zanu PF dictatorship has dragged this once upon a time prosperous nation into the gutter.

4.               If Parirenyatwa Hospital, a referral hospital, does not have painkillers and other basic necessities; what worse the provincial hospital and worst of all the district hospitals in the rural backwaters.

5.               For decades the donors have supplied the bulk of Zimbabwe’s medicine, education, food aid, etc.; they must be sick and tired, especially when they see Zimbabwe ruling elite galavanting in hired luxury jets, living in palatial mansions, etc.

6.               It is disheartening that Dr Mashumba, just like all the other Zimbabwean professionals, has never lifted a finger in 38 years to stop Zanu PF thugs dragging the nation into the gutter.

7.               Mnangagwa rigged last year’s elections and not many Zimbabwe professionals said a word in protest, it was all water off a duck’s back. Dr Mashumba you have done nothing to stop thugs imposing their corrupt and tyrannical rule on the nation. You got what you wanted so stop shedding those crocodile tears!
8.               Dr Mashumba you and your fellow professionals can cry Zambezi River flood of tears, that will not change anything. If you are serious about wanting an end to this criminal waste of the nation’s material and human resources then you must demand that Zanu PF steps down so the nation can implement the reforms and finally have its first ever free, fair and credible elections!

9.               When the country gained her independence in 1980 most Zimbabweans sat back and relaxed expecting a rich harvest of freedom, human rights, justice, peace and economic prosperity. For the last 38 years the nation has harvested brutal oppression, economic hardships and hopelessness and despair. Good governance comes to those willing to roll-up their shirt sleeves and work for it. It is incumbent on all Zimbabweans out there to make sure Zimbabwe has a democratic government accountable to the people.

10.     The Zanu PF thugs are not going to give up absolute power, especially now the regime is well dug-in and has so much at stake - power, looted wealth and criminal past to hide. Still, these Zanu PF thugs are mere mortals; it is foolish to be grovelling up to them as if they are Gods! Tyrants thrive on making everyone else feel totally powerless and helpless. Dr Mashumba’s tears will not move Mnangagwa to give up absolute power, it will encourage him to be even more arrogant.

“There is NO normal human being who could not have been moved by the emotional plea for help by Dr Azza Mashumba who is the Head of Paediatric Medicine at Parirenyatwa Hospital,” you said.
“Hers was a raw and clear reflection of a hidden painful and humiliation treatment of doctors and nurses by our authorities who have tragically failed to deliver where they are expected to.”
Dr Mashumba’s plea did not move Mnangagwa or any one of the ruling elite. They are not going to give up their palatial mansions and extravagant lifestyles just because povo are suffering and dying like flies. If you were implying that her plea was not going to move Mnangagwa and company because they are “NO normal human beings” then one has to ask why she bothered crying in the presence of those who are not normal human being.
But since these men and women whose hearts have been hardened by greed are the ones responsible for the country’s economic mess why is Dr Mashumba doing something to move them? Mnangagwa and company rigged last year’s elections why has Dr Mashumba, just like so many other Zimbabwean professionals said nothing to stop this corrupt and tyrannical rule?

  2. Zanu PF has chanelled taxpayer's money and other public funds to finance the extravagant lifestyles of the ruling elite. Even if the people can be mobilised to bailout the nation on health for how long can they do this? If Zanu PF has failed to provide basic services then we should remove the party from office and stop finding foolish ideas of keeping the party in power regardless of its pathetic public record and rigged elections.

  3. Speaking at a meeting on the state of the economy organised by the British Council, Robertson said the recent monetary measures that created an official interbank foreign currency trading platform and made the local currency official needed to be buttressed with stable policies.

"At last, our situation has started to look promising. We all know the uncertainties that we have been battling with for years. We have had shortages of bread, cash, fuel and various imports, including job opportunities and everyone has their list of which I can say that our lists are now shorter. In spite of that, I would still say our situation looks more promising anyway," he said.

Whatever economic recovery the country registers, it will be a temporary one. During the 2008 to 2013 GNU the country even enjoyed a 12% economic growth rate but that was not sustainable because the country had remained a pariah state under a ruthless dictatorship in all respect but name. As long as Zimbabwe remains a pariah state ruled by corrupt and vote rigging thugs this country is going nowhere.

  4. This is the tragedy with Zimbabwe; instead of holding the government to account by demanding an explanation for the economic mess, wasted resources and, ultimately, for the rigged elections which has helped to keep Zanu PF in power regardless of the people's democratic wishes, the dimwits are letting the regime off the hook. Zimbabwe is in serious economic trouble because of the decades of gross mismanagement and rampant corruption and it beggars belief how anyone with even half a brain would think that asking donors and the taxpayer to take on the responsibilities of central government would be the answer.

A corrupt and tyrannical regime would only be too pleased to waste the nation's resources and let other do the donkey work and that is exactly what has happened in Zimbabwe. After 38 years of Zanu PF misrule, one would have thought that the Zimbabwe populous has learnt the folly of giving a rogue regime like Zanu PF a blank cheque!

The donors have stepped in to help fund health, education, etc. in all these years but that was to give the people of Zimbabwe the time to organize themselves and hold the government to account. Sadly, the people wasted the opportunity and now the donors have walked away and left the people to face the music.
"It is shameful for the rest of the world to watch our health delivery system become a death trap whilst we claim to be an educated nation”. Only a shameless apologist like Hopewell Chinono would say such a stupid thing. He is demanding that the donors should do what we pay Zanu PF to do!

  5. "We have been forthright in acknowledging the effects of decline of governance, corruption and what we describe as 'State capture' on our economy, our institutions and our people," Ramaphosa said.

To change direction, a country needs investment, whether domestic or foreign.

"We have also recognised that we will not be able to meaningfully address the triple challenges that our country and people face; of unemployment, poverty and inequality without increased investment in critical areas of our economy."
President Cyril Ramaphosa has been a great disappointment; he is confused and full of contradictions. He talks of being “forthright in acknowledging” past mistakes and yet he has just endorsed Zanu PF’s rigged elections.
How does he expect Zimbabwe to register any meaningful economic recovery whilst the country remains a pariah state ruled by vote rigging thugs!

  6. Briefing the media soon after a closed door meeting with Mr John Culley who is the Political Counsellor at the British Embassy Harare, ZACC Head of Media, Dr Davison Gomo said the engagement for the removal sanctions has commenced.

These are upstarts who are desperate for political relevance. Ask them how the sanctions are hurting the ordinary people? They will give you a long winded answer.

Ask them, which of the two has hurt the ordinary people the most, corruption or sanctions? And you will never get a straight answer.

But the political naivety of these ZACC members comes out to the full when you ask them whether last year’s elections were free, fair and credible? You will never ever get a straight answer.

Zimbabwe is in this economic and political mess because of 38 years of corrupt and tyrannical Zanu PF misrule. The regime has managed to stay in power regardless of the economic mess and mass murders because it rigged the elections. The only hope for Zimbabwe to get out of this hell-on-earth is for the country to held free, fair and credible elections. How is it possible then that even now, with the benefit of 38 years of hindsight, anyone still fails to see the critical importance of ensuring the country holds free and fair elections as the only way out of the mess.

These ZACC members are not demanding free and fair elections because they will never take on the Zanu PF regime but would take on outsiders on anything regardless how trivial it happens to be! The British, Americans and the rest of the western nations should just ignore these utterly useless ZACC idiots. Sanctions are not the problem but corruption is and we need free and fair elections to end the latter.

  7. ONLY a fool thinks sanctions are targeted Last week you published a story in which President Mnangagwa was saying the country's economic revival was unstoppable.

ED called on the United States to remove; "illegal, spiteful and completely unjustified sanctions on our country, which continue to violate basic human rights of our people".

There are so many ignorant people who are always saying that sanctions do not directly have an effect on the economy. People need to understand the purpose of the sanctions, which is basically to cripple the economy and drive citizens to rebel against the Government.

These sanctions are a human right abuse because they are targeting innocent citizens rather than the individuals they claim to be directed at. Despite all this, I am, however, glad that the President has been working hard to make sure every Zimbabwean has a better life.

Sanctions or not, we shall prevail.

Just like what the President said; "Zimbabwe is a train on the move. We cannot be derailed, we cannot be stopped. Let us march forward ever, backward never. Victory is certain, our prosperity is inevitable?'
This is just wishful thinking. With unemployment a nauseating 90%; basic services such as health care all but collapse; the country facing a shortage of cash, foreign currency, fuel, wheat, etc.; the list is endless.
When Mnangagwa took over from Mugabe he promise many things but failed to deliver any of them. He promised to hold free, fair elections but went on to blatantly rigged the elections. He promised to end corruption but we all know the wholesale looting in Marange and other places has continued.
Mnangagwa’s “Zimbabwe is open for business!” has come to nothing because no investor likes to do business is a pariah state ruled by corrupt and vote rigging thugs.
The Zimbabwe train derailed decades ago, the country is in economic ruins and it is being held to ransom by murderous thugs! As long as Zimbabwe remains a pariah state there will never be any meaningful economic recovery.

Zanu PF will never allow any meaningful democratic reforms to be implemented leading to the holding of free and fair elections.
If Zanu PF is still in power in 2023; the regime will rig that year’s elections, guaranteed. The greatest challenge of this generation right now is to make sure Zanu PF steps down so a new administration can be appointed to implement the reforms. Zanu PF must be forced to step down before 2023 without failure!

  8. Matemadanda invite Chamisa to join the anti-sanctions deno!
The number one cause of Zimbabwe's meltdown is corruption. The country lost $15 billion to corruption in the diamond industry in 2010 to 2014, according to former President Mugabe's own admission. When Mnangagwa took over power from Mugabe he vowed to end corruption but has failed to do so.

The wholesale looting of diamonds in Marange and Chiadzwa has continued. Zanu PF and its apologists like Matemadanda are stepping up their blame of the economic meltdown on sanctions to take the heat off off Mnangagwa's failure to end corruption. By rigging last year's elections, Zanu PF has also confirmed that Zimbabwe was ruled by not only corrupt thugs but vote rigging and lawless thugs. As long as Zimbabwe remains a pariah state there is no hope of meaningful economic recovery.

Blaming the party's failures on something else, the sanctions, is a common Zanu PF dirty tactic.

Zanu PF has no mandate to govern and therefore must be pressured to step down. If Zanu PF remains in power till the 2023 elections, the party will rig those elections and we will only have ourselves to blame!

  9. There are fears of an outbreak of cholera and other diseases as refuse goes uncollected due to lack of fuel, collection vehicles, etc.
Zimbabwe's economic decline started soon after independence in 1980 and has continued to this day. As long as Zimbabwe remains a pariah state ruled by corrupt and vote rigging thugs there will be no end to our economic suffering and political oppression.

"Seek ye first the political kingdom and the rest will be added unto you," said Dr Kwame Nkrumah, first president of Ghana. After 38 years of trying to Dr Nkrumah wrong by expecting peace, justice and economic prosperity from the corrupt and tyrannical Zanu PF regime; we clearly have not learned the lesson yet!

  10. The first batch of students from St Charles Lwanga Boys High School in Chimanimani, who for the past three days have been stuck at their school with dead bodies of two fellow students and a security guard have been safely taken to Chipinge where they are reportedly receiving medical attention, the Information ministry has revealed.
This was a natural disaster but no doubt made worse by the man-made disaster of poorly maintain roads and other infrastructure!
