CCC insisted in participating in flawed 2023 out of greed and now they're stampeding into fresh flawed elections. W Mukori

Zimbabwe’s main opposition party, the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), has initiated a 30-day campaign calling for fresh elections following last week’s controversial poll results,” reported Pindula.

“The party argues that the elections were severely flawed, making the outcome illegitimate. They propose holding new elections under the supervision of an “impartial” electoral body, different from the “biased” Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC), or preferably under the supervision of SADC, African Union (AU), and or the United Nations (UN).”

This is nonsense! MDC/CCC has failed to implement even one token reform to stop Zanu PF rigging elections these last 23 years, including 5 in the GNU. It is none other than Chamisa himself who has insisted in participating in these flawed elections to give Zanu PF legitimacy out of greed. Chamisa has lied about having winning in rigged elections strategies to hide the greed.

Now that SADC Election Observer Mission (SEOM) has condemned the 2023 elections were flawed the man who until 23 August 2023 claimed that he had plugged all Zanu PF vote rigging loop holes suddenly believes the elections are flawed.

CCC are calling for this 30-day campaign to call for fresh elections to stampede the nation into fresh elections without implementing the reforms. No wonder the party has failed to implement any reforms because Chamisa and company have no clue what the reforms are much less how they are implemented.

What Zimbabwe need right now is for the SADC Panel of Elders to up hold the SEOM’s report and deny Zanu PF political legitimacy. SADC, with the help of EU and UN, must help in the formation of a new GNU whose primary task, like the 2008 to 2013 GNU, will be to implement the democratic reforms and end the curse of rigged elections and bad governance.

Both Zanu PF and CCC leaders must have no role in the new GNU. They were all in the 2008 to 2013 GNU that failed to implement even one token reform, it is naive, to say the least, to expect them to do any better second time round.

The people of Zimbabwe, SADC, etc. must ignore CCC’s attention seeking public protests. The party has insisted on participating in flawed elections out of greed all these years and now has the chutzpah to stage street protests against flawed elections!

  1. MDC/CCC has failed to implement even one reform in 23 years and has been participating in these flawed elections out of greed. They now want to take advantage of the opportunity created by SADC Election Observer Mission to force Zanu PF to increase their share of the spoils of power.

The crisis must be used to get the democratic reforms finally implemented. People must not allow CCC to stampede them into fresh elections without all the reforms implemented!

“You can have all the reforms you want that would not change anything. Rigging is their modus operandi. It's in the blood. There were processes clearly spelt out in the Constitution that were set aside deliberately, and thats how they choose to operate.”

No meaningful democratic reforms were implemented during the GNU, the 2013 Constitution gave you your rights and freedoms with one hand and took them all away with the other. The very fact that you have failed to grasp that reality even now with the benefit of hindsight speaks volumes about you!

You believe the 2013 constitution is a democratic one only because you have failed to comprehend document in its totality. Mugabe dictated the document, a dictators’ creed, and conned MDC to sell it as a democratic constitution. Morgan Tsvangirai even boasted that it was an “MDC child!”

You hear but don’t understand. See but perceive nothing! Those who fail to comprehend detail are destined to blunder from pillar to post repeating the same foolish mistakes over and over again.

  3. The African Union’s Peace and Security Council has met to discuss and prepare a response to the coup in Gabon, the latest in a wave of takeovers in west and central Africa that regional powers have failed to reverse. Nigerian President Bola Tinubu, who was sworn into office in May and now chairs the west African bloc Ecowas, says he is working closely with other African leaders to contain what he called a “contagion of autocracy” spreading across Africa-Daily Maverick

The AU condemned Zimbabwe's 23 August 2023 elections the world is watching whether the continental body will chicken out and grant Zanu PF political legitimacy. AU has encouraged these coups by failed to rein in autocratic leaders!

MDC/CCC had the chance to implement the democratic reforms during the GNU and since then have participated in flawed elections to give Zanu PF legitimacy out of greed. To argue that CCC must continue participating in these flawed elections is foolish to say the least!

  6. Here ANC SG Mbalua readily admits the Rhodesian economic continued to do well under Ian Smith although the regime under even tougher UN sanctions than the ones imposed on this Zanu PF regime and had was fighting a bitter civil war. The Zimbabwe economy was already is deep trouble by the start of the 1990s hence the need for the 1990 to 1995 then 1995 to 1999 ESAP programmes; long before the first sanctions imposed in 2001! Why ANC is insisting on blaming the West’s imposed sanctions for Zimbabwe’s failures instead of Zanu PF’s 43 years of gross mismanagement and rampant corrupt?
ANC is using the West’ refusal to lift the sanctions to justify why SADC must turning a blind eye to Zanu PF rigging the 2023 elections. Of course, it is a feeble excuse, who would excuse a man who beats up his wife and children because he had a quarrel with his neighbour! Why should the wife and children be the ones to suffer?

  7. Plans for Mnangagwa swearing in set for Monday 4 September 2023 and still do not know if SADC Panel of Elders have agreed to set aside Dr Mumba's critical report.

Our next fight is with SADC and AU why they are ignoring their own election observer mission's own reports!!!!!!

  8. Yeah. Exposing the flaws and illegalities should be a means to any end not the sole end and purpose. Participating in flawed elections time and time again particularly when doing so gives legitimacy to the vote rigging Zanu PF is insane.

MDC/CCC have failed to implement even one reform even when it was within their power to do so. They have been participated in these flawed elections to give Zanu PF legitimacy for the same reasons they failed to implement even one reform in 23 years - greed and breathtaking incompetence.

MDC/CCC leaders have gotten away with this treasonous acts because povo has no clue what the reforms are much less how they should be implemented. They have no clue the primary purpose of the 2008 to 2013 GNU was to implement reforms; even now with the benefit of hindsight they still have no clue. To hold Chamisa and company to account for selling out on reforms, one must know what the reforms are!

Indeed, CCC leaders have even conned the people to believe the nation does not need reforms to be implemented and free and fair elections because the opposition have devised winning in rigged election strategies. It is shocking that the people still believe this nonsense even after 43 years of Zanu PF mafiosi rigging elections. No wonder Zimbabwe is a failed state!

“My main argument against the legal/court process is that once you declare a process to be flawed and fraught with illegalities then going to court to fight about the results is foolhardy. If almost all the observer missions and the generality of citizens agree that this was a sham election, then what exactly do you hope to prove in court?

The CCC agree that the whole process was skewed in favour of the incumbent, so the fact remains that you cant get a legitimate result from a flawed process. Its like a maths question that requires you to provide workings for your answer. If all your workings are wrong, then your base or foundation is wrong. If you come up with the correct answer, then its either coincidental or pure guess work.”

You argument makes sense but what you must remember is CCC agreed to participate knowing fully well that the process was flawed and illegal. Of course they knew there was no verified voters’ roll, no free public media, intimidation was rampant, etc. Chamisa dismissed all these flaws and illegalities with contempt, CCC was going to win big regardless, because he had winning in rigged elections strategies.

Now that CCC has lost, once again, he is having to swallow his pride to admit he failed to plug the one hole that has allowed ZEC to declare the wrong result. He has to challenge the result on this one issue, the V11 and ZEC’s total. He did not challenged the 2018 elections of the process being flawed and illegal and he is not going to do so this time either!

CCC want the elections run afresh because ZEC declared the wrong presidential result otherwise everything else was fine. If the Constitutional court was to declare him the winner then the 23 August 2023 Zimbabwe elections were free, fair and credible, as far as he is concerned.

This explains why MDC/CCC leaders have failed to implement even one token reform in 23 years, including 5 in the GNU. And why they want the fresh elections held in 3 to 6 months; they do not see the need to implement any reforms other than to replace ZEC for declaring the wrong result!

  10. So you chose to participate in a flawed and illegal election because you believed you had winning in rigged election strategies. Now it is clear your strategies were just hot air.

You are now claiming that you are going to end Mnangagwa’s rule, "you have drawn the line in the sand"! This is just another blast of hot air!

You were foolish to fail to implement even one token reform when you lot had the golden opportunity to do so during the GNU. You were equally foolish in insisting in participating in flawed election to give ZanuPF legitimacy out of greed.

The truth CCC will never implement any reforms and deliver free and fair elections. It is for the people themselves to now wake up to this political reality and put an end to to this madness! What will it take to open your eye and mind my fellow Zimbabweans!!!!!!!!

“But then again, if he hadn’t participated , SADC probably wouldn’t have said what they said coz Zanu would have just played fair with the small parties.”

What a convoluted argument, so MDC/CCC failed to implement even one toke reform to ensure free, fair and credible elections because they want SADC, AU and the rest of the observers to find something flawed and illegal in the elections. No wonder Zimbabwe is a failed state!

“M not CCC but Chamisa is best hope majority of voters had. Given the circumstances. I sympathised with CCC or any credible opposition & only CCC is credible to me.”

You have already shown that you have no clue what the democratic reforms are, what constitute free, fair and credible elections, what the 2008 to 2013 GNU was about, etc. The very fact that MDC/CCC leaders have failed to implement even one token reform in 23 years, 5 of which in the GNU, meanings nothing to you. How can you judge their competence in a matter in which you have no clue, even now with the benefit of hindsight.

There are many reasons why Zimbabwe is a failed state and top on that list is because we have some of the most shallow, thick and slow electorate in the world. Democracy demands an informed and diligent electorate and not a naive and gullible one.

Of course, “CCC is credible” to you! You hardly know your left hand from your right!

“Who would have known that on the day of the vote, only the rural voters would be supplied with adequate ballots whilst the urbanites are suppressed? Who would have known that FAZ would set up camp at polling stations and shepherding hapless voters to the booths and voting for them in some instances?”

That is precisely why SADC sponsored the 2008 to 2013 GNU whose primary task was to implement the democratic reforms to ensure ZEC, Police, Army, Judiciary, etc are independent to carry out their set tasks to ensure free, fair and credible elections. MDC/CCC did not implement even one reform because they believed that they had winning in rigged elections strategies.

Are you still talking about why MDC/CCC failed to implement even one democratic reform during the GNU? The truth is Mugabe bribed the MDC leaders with the trappings of high office, the ministerial limos, generous salaries and allowances, a US$4 million mansion for Tsvangirai, etc. and they returned the favour by throwing reforms out of the window.

“Mazivanhu eMDC adzidza kudya anyerere!” boasted Zanu PF cronies during the GNU when asked why MDC leaders were not implementing reforms.

The real tragedy is we have people who fanatical loyalty to leaders is such they have made these fallible mortal demigods who know best and are divinely inspired. No mortal must ever question the leaders and they cannot accept that the leaders sold out even when presented with the evidence.

As I have said before, there are many very good reasons why Zimbabwe is a failed state and top on that list is the fact that we have more than our fair share of myopic nincompoops who have their heads buried in the leaders’ backsides. You cannot make them see reason because their brain, starved of oxygen, has ossified into fat!

  16. IN the aftermath of a disputed plebiscite, civil society organisations have demanded the intervention of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) to create a Transitional Government in Zimbabwe. The country is gripped in anxiety after the announcement of the general election results which have become a subject of concern in the political arena.

Zanu PF candidate Emmerson Mnangagwa was declared a winner of the plebiscite garnering 52.6 percent to retain the presidency. This year’s election has been condemned by the opposition and civil society groups who argue it was flawed and skewed in favour of Mnangagwa.

In a petition to SADC and the African Union (AU), researchers Tony Reeler and Ibbo Mandaza called on regional bodies to front the establishment of a transitional government as a way forward from the political impasse the country is in.

“Once again a Zimbabwean election fails the test of credibility. However, the 2023 Harmonised Elections have failed the test so comprehensively that even the reputable regional and international observers are for once are in agreement that this election has failed. The main opposition and many civil society organisations have condemned the election, as have many ordinary citizens,” read the petition.
    read full articles below…..”

The AU and SADC have betrayed the people of Zimbabwe by turning a blind eye to Zanu PF’s blatant vote rigging in the past. This time their own election observers condemned the process as flawed and illegal, what excuse will they have for disregarding their own officials’ findings.

What Zimbabwe needs is another chance to implement the democratic reforms. SADC must be loathing the prospect of being the guarantor of another GNU and be yoked with the same Zanu PF and CCC thugs and idiots who failed to implement even one reform in the last GNU. It is not for SADC to find a way forward.

What we are asking of both SADC and AU is to deny Zanu PF political legitimacy and let the UN takeover from there. Forget the nonsense about African solution to African problems.

  17. Zvobgo calling for imposition of sanctions on Rhodesia.

Those who participated in the rigged elections cannot say this with authority since they participated knowing the process is flawed and that doing so will give Zanu PF legitimacy. The insisted on participating out of greed and to hide their greed they claimed to have plugged all Zanu PF vote rigging loop holes!

  18. Yes Mnangagwa is not clever but what about you? You were one of the 3 principals in the 2008 to 2013 GNU whose primary task was to implement democratic reforms and you failed to get even one token reform implemented in 5 years! Mutambara you talk too much and most of it is bulls***t!

Zimbabwe would be a totally different country right now if you and your MDC friends had not sold out big time during the GNU. So please spare us you bills**t!

  19. This is just crap, Zanu PF has been rigging elections long before sanctions were imposed in 2001! The Gukurahundi was all about forcing PF Zapu to join Zanu PF and clear the way for the imposition of the de facto one party state. These elections are about restoring the people's right to a meaningful say in the governance of the country to deny that right under the pretext of lift the sanctions first is just a foolish argument!

    ReplyDelete
  20. This just rubbish! By participating in the flawed and illegal elections CCC gave the process credibility and the results political legitimacy. Complaining after the event that the elections were rigged does not change the reality on the ground - Zanu PF has political legitimacy.

Any court challenge of the election result will suspend ZEC’s announced result pending the said court’s decision on the matter. In 2018 the Constitutional Court ruled in favour of Mnangagwa and Chamisa’s refusal to accept the court’s decision did not change the facts on the ground.

In 2008 both AU and SADC refused to accept the elections results because of the blatant cheating and wanton violence. Mugabe ignored that and went ahead with the swearing in ceremony. Both AU and SADC ignored that because they had condemned the process as flawed and illegal and, per se, could not produce a legitimate government whatever ZEC or the courts said or do is irrelevant.

Both SADC and AU’s election observers have condemned these 2023 elections as flawed and illegal and, per se, cannot produce a legitimate government. What Zanu PF and/or CCC do or say will have no bearing on the reality on the ground - a flawed and illegal election process cannot result in a legitimate government.

To argue that CCC’s court challenge would have any bearing on SADC and AU’s decision on these elections is as foolish as claiming the Court challenge will have an effect on the sun rising tomorrow!

  21. Chamisa said he had drawn the line in the sand, he would not let Mnangagwa get away with another rigged elections. He would challenge Mnangagwa's victory, he had all the V11 forms proving he had won the elections.

Guess what, Chamisa has crossed the line he had drawn in the sand; he is not NOT going to challenge the result in court after all! He is even claiming his decision will help SADC and AU on the matter. What a truck load of bull!

Zimbabwe would be a better country if it was not for MDC/CCC's blundering incompetence and greed!

  23. However, Maimane pointed out that by attending, Ramaphosa would be subverting the stance taken by the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) on the Zimbabwe elections.

In a previous statement, SADC's Electoral Observer Mission denounced the harmonised elections in Zimbabwe, stating that they violated democratic processes and "fell short of the requirements of the Constitution of Zimbabwe, the Electoral Act, and the SADC Principles and Guidelines Governing Democratic Elections…"

Maimane said for this reason, Ramaphosa should not "undermine SADC and not extend the crisis in Zimbabwe, which is affecting South Africa," by attending, he wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

SADC cannot ignore Dr Mumba’s report, it cannot be business as usual.

  24. Chamisa's candidates to take up their Parliament seats of a stolen election?

CCC have participated in these flawed elections to give Zanu PF legitimacy out of greed. And we have known this all along.

“The (2013) electoral process was so flawed, so illegal, that the only logical step was to withdraw, which would compel SADC to hold Zanu PF to account. But such was the distrust between the MDC-T and MDC-N that neither could withdraw for fear that the other would remain in the elections, winning seats and giving the process credibility,” confessed David Coltart in his Book, The Struggle Continues 50 years of Tyranny in Zimbabwe.

SADC's report confirming the elections were flawed and illegal has left a lot of egg on CCC's faces. But for this greed lot there is no sense of shame! None!
