"Impeach Mnangagwa over gold mafia!" No, focus on denying him legitimacy and all else will follow. W Mukori

Team Pachedu have done excellent work in the fight for free, fair and credible elections. However in calling for Mnangagwa to be impeached over the Al Jazeera Gold Mafia expose, they are losing the plot.

"As Team Pachedu, we think the opposition should put the necessary pressure on Mnangagwa to step down and a good safe way is to move a motion to impeach him in Parliament.

"The legislators have a role to play in checking the executive," Team Pachedu told NewsDay.

Yes, the opposition MPs can table a motion to impeach Mnangagwa, but to what end and purpose! Even if they did table the motion, it will be quashed like a bug underfoot. Remember Zanu PF has 2/3 majority in parliament and these MPs are not accountable to ordinary Zimbabweans but to Mnangagwa and the rest of the corrupt ruling elite! Mnangagwa and his cronies rig elections – remember!

As long as Zanu PF is able to rig the elections and stay in power the gross mismanagement, rampant corruption and tyrannical oppression will continue. So, if we are serious about ending the mismanagement, corruption, etc. we must focus on implementing the democratic reforms to ensure free, fair and credible elections. Anything else is just a waste of time and effort!

We are in the middle of an election campaign and will be going to the polls in four months’ time. There is overwhelming evidence already to show the process is flawed and illegal including the failure to produce something as basic as a verified voters’ roll. Team Pachedu has done excellent work in helping to document some of the evidence.

Zanu PF is rigging these 2023 elections. After 43 years of rigged elections, it is insane to let this happen yet again!

With four months to go before polling day, it is too late to get any meaningful democratic reforms implemented nor can we stop the elections going ahead. What we can do is make sure everyone knows that these elections as flawed and illegal and cannot therefore produce a legitimate government. Zanu PF must not be allowed to get away with yet another rigged election and granted political legitimacy.

It is a well-documented historic fact that Zimbabwe’s opposition MDC/CCC have played a major role in helping Zanu PF rig elections and get away with it. MDC leaders had the golden opportunity to implement the democratic reforms, notably during the 2008 to 2013 GNU. They failed to implement even one reform.

Worse still, Chamisa and his opposition friends have insisted on participating in these elections knowing fully well that Zanu PF was rigging the elections and that participating will give the process some modicum of credibility and the outcome legitimacy. They have participated regardless out of greed.

“The worst aspect for me about the failure to agree a coalition was that both MDCs couldn’t now do the obvious – withdraw from the (2013) elections,” confessed David Coltart, CCC Treasurer General,  in his Book, The Struggle Continues 50 years of Tyranny in Zimbabwe.

“The electoral process was so flawed, so illegal, that the only logical step was to withdraw, which would compel SADC to hold Zanu PF to account. But such was the distrust between the MDC-T and MDC-N that neither could withdraw for fear that the other would remain in the elections, winning seats and giving the process credibility.”

Chamisa and his CCC friends are once again participating in these flawed and illegal 2023 elections to give Zanu PG legitimacy out of greed. How long are we going to allow this blatant betrayal of the people fight for reforms and free elections to continue, for Pete’s sake!!!!

The suggestion that the opposition MPs must table a motion to impeach Mnangagwa will be a welcome distraction from addressing with the critical questions; why the sold out on reforms and continue to do so by participating in flawed elections?

Indeed, the very act of raising the motion of impeaching Mnangagwa on corruption, even if everyone knowing it is academic, will be a feather in the opposition’s cap. They will see it justification for their continued participation in these flawed elections!

The number one task before us is making sure Zanu PF does not get political legitimacy and thus get away with yet another rigged 2023 election. The last thing we want is give the sell-out opposition a feeble excuse to justify their participation.

Tabling the motion to impeach Mnangagwa over the gold looting will be no more than a house-fly to a elephant, the Al Jazeera documentary has been a swarm of stinging bees, at the very least. Deny Mnangagwa political legitimacy and the Zanu PF dictatorship will end and with it the mismanagement, corruption, etc.

We can end the Zanu PF dictatorship, the regime is rigging these elections and knows that getting away with it is not going to be easy. The regime on the ropes and we need to stay focused and not the distracted by impeachment side show of no consequence!

“Chamisa is blamed for everything from the country's economic collapse to underperforming councils to Sikhala's plight to police brutality and gold smuggling.

For all the woes the country is going through, the buck should stop with the government which we have given the mandate to superintend over State's affairs and to whom we pay taxes.

Those who are outside the realms of power, such as Chamisa, while important should not be our primary concern.”
This is just a shallow argument from someone not given to rational thinking. A more rational mind would ask what is it that the opposition is expected to do? Have they done it?
The people of Zimbabwe have risked life and limb to elect MDC leaders on the understanding they would deliver democratic changes the nation was dying for, as the party’s name implied. The truth is they have failed to implement even one reform in 23 years, 5 of which in the GNU. Worse still, the MDC/CCC have given up on reforms and have now been participating in flawed elections to give Zanu PF legitimacy.
If you are going to defend Chamisa then tell us what important tasks he has carried out. I for one. cannot name even one!
It is therefore rich to be wittering about Chamisa is “being blamed for everything”. If someone has failed in the most important tasks, it is irrelevant how many trivial tasks he did carried out. The law does not care to know a ruthless murdered once helped an old lady cross the street!
Zimbabwe is in a real mess because both Zanu PF and MDC/CCC have proven beyond all doubt that they are corrupt and incompetent. We have not made any meaningful progress on the matter because the people have a binary mentality which means can only see one party as good and the other as bad. This blind loyalty is as much a problem as the Zanu PF dictatorship itself.
We want rational thinking and not this idiotic blind loyalty!

  2. Zanu PF ruling elite including the MPs are the ones benefiting from the wholesale looting of the nation's resources directly by being one of the recipients of the brown envelops and/or indirectly benefiting from the de facto one party dictatorship. An opposition initiated impeachment of Mnangagwa will a waste of time because Zanu PF will never reform much less punish itself.

CCC should not be participating in these flawed elections and the last thing we want is give these sell-outs a feeble excuse to participate!

  3. According to inside sources at the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe, more assets have been frozen of those implicated in gold smuggling, money laundering, bribery, and other corrupt activities whose self-incriminating comments are contained in the documentary.

"Ewan McMillan, Kamlesh Pattni, Uebert Angel, and Simon Rudland were reported to banks on March 30 listing all accounts and assets held by these people including their balances," said an insider.

Part of a memo sent to banks heads of compliance seen by The Herald read, "Submit confirmation that the accounts have been frozen. No funds should be transferred from the frozen account until the Financial Intelligence Unit has finished its investigations. The directive is with immediate effect," said the source.

In the Al Jazeera documentary, Angel is captured offering to Al Jazeera's undercover reporters that he could use his diplomatic cover to carry large volumes of dirty cash into Zimbabwe as part of a laundering operation also involving gold smuggling.
This is the usual catch and release – we all know this! Uebert Angel was appointed by President Mnangagwa himself as ambassador – at – large. Of course, the President knew he was a dodgy character, indeed he appointed his knowing fully well he was going to use the diplomatic powers for such activities as money laundering and gold smuggling.
Only the very naïve would believe that this was the first money laundering and gold smuggling job Angel was going to do. The man has already amassed a US$60 million fortune and he did not make it from his prophesies!
Uebert Angel already knows too much and most of it will involve Mnangagwa and the other Zanu PF big fish that is why he will be arrested and quickly released! The same will happened with the rest Gold mafia being arrest – some have already disappeared!
This Zanu PF government is behind the gross mismanagement and rampant corruption in Zimbabwe. The Mafia have not captured the state institutions; they are the state institutions! The Mafia are the state! It is naïve to think the Zanu PF Mafia will never reform itself out of power much less investigate and destroy themselves!

“The grounds exist and support would come from both parties. There would be a considerable number of Zanu MPs who just need a slight nudge into such a move.”
The minute Mnangagwa heard about the impeachment he will dissolve parliament and call for fresh elections. Those Zanu PF MPs who had sided with the impeachment will be deselected!
But even if there was time to impeach Mnangagwa and he was successfully removed, the Zanu PF MP will only appoint another Zanu PF thug to take his place. We have been here before and we are going over the same ground yet again!
We need to change the system and not just the head, the dictator. End the dictatorship and you get rid of the current dictator and block the appointment of a new dictator!

  5. It is one thing to say a good leader's good deeds must outweigh the bad one and then fail to name Chamisa's good deeds that outweigh the betrayal on reforms and free elections.

  6. A FULL bench of the Constitutional Court (ConCourt) will now hear MDC leader Douglas Mwonzora's challenge against the recently gazetted delimitation report by Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC).
This comes after the Constitutional Court granted his urgent chamber application for leave to have a direct access to the apex court on grounds that his matter was arguable.

On March 14 the MDC filed an application seeking the ZEC delimitation report to be declared invalid because did not take into account the final results of the population census among other issues.

A bench chaired by Paddington Garwe ruled that his delimitation challenge has merit and as such must be heard by a full bench.
Mwonzora, said the report could only be challenged after it was gazetted because it then formed the basis for the coming general elections.

The MDC president said elections using the report will not pass the credibility test and the country will remain isolated.
The real substantive issue is that the delimitation report was not based on a verified voters’ roll – something Mwonzora and the rest in the opposition camp have repeatedly ignored. Why? The only rational reason why they have ignored the demand for verified voters’ roll is that they are paid to ignore all substantive matters. Mwonzora, Chamisa, Biti, etc. all were in the 2008 to 2013 GNU that failed to implement even one meaningful reform.
Zanu PF is rigging the 2023 elections because the regime has failed to implement even one meaningful reform since the rigged 2028 elections and the failure to produce a verified voters’ roll is one of the many reasons why the elections must be condemned here and now and not have to wait for the election results.

“It is unfortunate that you want or wanted Chamisa to implement reforms. Why can't you implement them?”
If I was ever elected into public office to implement reforms or whatever and failed to do so, then hold me to account!
The people voted for MDC to deliver democratic changes and it is a historic fact that they have failed to bring about even one change. You don't want the truth to be said and MDC/CCC held to democratic account. Well tough s***t because I am here to hold them to democratic account!
You don’t want to admit that MDC/CCC sold out much less that they must be held to account. I have told you before that all those who hold public office are accountable to the public. Only a village idiot would listen to your idiotic arguments, not me! Handina muti unoera sanhu!

So, you will never vote for anyone who believes those elected to public office MUST be accountable to the people? Well, I said you are village idiot. QED!

  9. Government faces fresh dilemma on how to handle the gold smuggling and money laundering scandal exposed in a corruption busting Al Jazeera documentary after the central bank has also been fingered in the embarrassing crimes.

Following the revelations contained in the documentary titled, Gold Mafia, the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe's Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) has frozen the assets of four individuals who are implicated in the scandal.

They are United Kingdom based preacher Uebert Angel, Ewan Macmillan, Simon Rutland, and Kamlesh Pattni.

The culprits nailed themselves when they were filmed by undercover Al Jazeera journalists boasting about their links to Zimbabwe's ruling elite and their crafty abilities to move loads of gold and hard cash over borders without being detected.

RBZ cannot investigate itself. The rot in Zimbabwe going to deep and involves too many people. The system cannot hold because it is rotten at the core!

“These are actually the facts of a Dunderhead, rigging us on a daylight robbery, influencing people not to vote is another way of rigging. Zvine mataurire kuti Zanu PF yakarigger kuhwina kwatakaita unlike kungoti hatina kuvhota chete. I will only sound proper to a dunderhead, ninicoupups like you Mukori. Go and redo your Political commentary as you are a political commentator.”
If you are ever going to understand why Nelson Chamisa and his CCC friends are hell bent on participating in these flawed elections you must under stand why they did not implement even one token reform during the 2008 to 2013 GNU. It was within their own powers to implement the reforms then, they did not have to ask Zanu PF to do so. SADC leaders, notably Minister Lindiwe Zulu nagged them endlessly to implement the reforms and still they did nothing!
If MDC leaders failed to implement even one token reform when they had the golden opportunity to do so, it is naïve to expect them to do so now!

“This is what I call nonsense, you have shifted the goal post and you never answered what I asked, but merely beating about the bush. Lindiwe Zulu Even failed to talk to Zanupf pertaining to reforms even sadc and Au. Remember All these compatriots sadc and Au, they are toothless bulldogs. Do you know that Chamisa did not endorse ED as the President of Zimbabwe because of the fact that he did not win. But Look he has been endorsed by sadc and Au which means Even If CCC do not participate Zanupf will go ahead with elections and again your sadc and Au will endorse him.Merely dunderheaded people like yu will still influence parties not to participate giving Zanupf credit to hold on elections and declared the winner. Muka Mukori uuye uvhote nevamwe tibvise the old guard and Put the new.”
I have not shifted the goal post, the reason why MDC/CCC are participating in these flawed elections to give Zanu PF legitimacy is the same reason they failed to implement even one reform during the GNU – GREED. The greed is clear to see and understand during the GNU than it is post the GNU; if you cannot understanding the greed during the GNU you will not understand it post the GNU.
You have clearly failed to understand what happened during the GNU and it is no surprise you have no clue what is happening now. You will participate in flawed elections no matter how flawed the process get.
You have no clue what constitutes free, fair and credible elections. It is tragic that even after 43 years of rigged elections there are still some people who don’t even have the common sense to see the sheer stupidity of believing the nonsense of winning in rigged elections.

  14. Mnangagwa will spend US$4b or 14% of Zimbabwe's GDP in 2023 elections because he has commandeered country's human and material resource for the express purpose securing ED victory.

CCC and the rest will have done have well if they raised US$4 m or 0.1% of Zanu PF's US$4b. How can this be a free and fair contest!!!!

  16. War Vets Get 35 Mines, Red Tape Stalls Handover
PRESIDENT Mnangagwa allocated 35 mines to war veterans two years ago to empower the liberation war icons, but officials entrusted with the responsibility to handover the claims have not done so amid allegations of corruption.
Zanu PF ruling elite have been looting the nation’s resources as was clearly documented in the recent Al Jazeera Gold Mafia broadcasts. The regime is now extending the same looting rights to a select few, the war veterans, the gold panners, church leaders and a few other groups who have shown their willingness to help Mnangagwa and Zanu PF win these 2023 elections. We can be certain of one thing the looting rights will be seriously curtailed if not completely withdrawn soon after the elections.
What Zimbabwe needs is the restoration of the rule of law and an end to all this looting and chaos. We need to implement the democratic reforms and end the curse of rigged elections and bad governance.

“The seemingly intemperate accusation of CCC can easily be misconstrued or worse comprehended as red herring of the main problem and target to attack - which is unfairness by the ruling party. Many get their attention diverted by the incessant attacks on CCC. and opposition in general. I don't think CCC is the only body that grants or denies legitimacy to a fraudulent winner. It's participation or non participation should have nothing to do with sanitation of a flawed process. The ongoing unfairness is out in the open for all to see and cannot be veiled by opposition CCC's participation - the process cannot be sugarcoated by the participation of opposition. SADC SA AU EU and all are the ones that grant legitimacy and they are not blindsided by opposition participation - they have the ability and common sense to peer and see what lies behind the ‘participation curtain’.”
You are right, there is no denying the election process is “so flawed, so illegal that the only logical step was (in 2013 and is today) to withdraw”, as David Coltart aptly put.
“The worst aspect for me about the failure to agree a coalition was that both MDCs couldn’t now do the obvious – withdraw from the (2013) elections,” confessed Coltart in his Book, The Struggle Continues 50 years of Tyranny in Zimbabwe.

Coltart spelt it out why the opposition would not do the right thing – greed.
It is shocking that many Zimbabweans out there are bending over backwards NOT to criticise CCC for repeatedly failing to do the right thing. The reason for this is clear enough; these people have a binary mentality. They have decided Zanu PF are the bad guys and MDC/CCC are the good guys and therefore they cannot condemn MDC/CCC even when they are doing some thing wrong.
Condemning CCC for their selling out on reforms and free elections is even more important now than ever because their participation is giving Zanu PF legitimacy.
CCC are the country’s main opposition and to therefore keep arguing that they are not the only opposition is to miss the point! Zanu and Zapu were the two main opposition parties in the 1970s, and their refusal to participate in the 1978 Zimbabwe-Rhodesia deny Smith legitimacy.
It was the same binary mentality that got many Zimbabweans to back the 2017 military coup because the choice then was between Mugabe and Mnangagwa. A more shrewd thinker would have realised the choice was between democracy and dictatorship and thus rejected both Mugabe and Mnangagwa.
CCC are participating in these flawed and illegal elections knowing do so will give Zanu PF legitimacy and still they do it out of greed. How any one would hesitate even for one moment to condemn this beggars belief!

Zanu PF is rigging these elections, the evidence is there for all to see! There is no verified voters’ roll, Zanu PF cherry-picked the electorate to deny 3m in the diaspora the vote, not even one reform of the 23 in the EU 2018 report was implemented, etc., etc.
It is insane to believe in Winning In Rigged Election (WIRE) strategies when there is evidence these are just hot air. CCC claimed the party will have mass voter registration followed by mass voting. As of 30 May 2022, only ¼ of million had registered to vote out of the party’s own 6 million target or 4%!
It is insane to keep participating in flawed elections expecting a different result, especially after 43 years of Zanu PF rigged elections.
Chamisa and company are participating in these flawed elections out of greed and many of the ordinary Zimbabweans are doing so out of desperation and stupidity. I am denouncing the greed and insanity here and now and not wait until the results are announced when it would be too late!
