"Nyika inovakwa nevene vayo!" - For every one built Zanu PF destroyed 50, no wonder Zimbabwe is in ruins. N Garikai

On Monday, 12 December 2022, the U.S. Department of the Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) designated four Zimbabwean individuals and two Zimbabwean entities, and removed seventeen Zimbabweans from the Specially Designated Nationals and Blocked Persons List (SDN List).

"We urge the Zimbabwean government to take meaningful steps towards creating a peaceful, prosperous, and politically vibrant Zimbabwe, and to address the root causes of many of Zimbabwe's ills: corrupt elites and their abuse of the country's institutions for their personal benefit," explained Under Secretary of the Treasury Brian E. Nelson.

"The goal of sanctions is behavior change. Today's actions demonstrate our support for a transparent and prosperous Zimbabwe."

The Zanu PF regime was completely taken by surprise as it clearly thought it was winning the fight to have the sanctions lifted. SADC and AU leaders had all been blaming the sanctions for Zimbabwe’s economic meltdown and calling for their unconditional removal.

The evidence on the ground shows that it is the gross mismanagement and rampant corruption which are the primary causes of the economic meltdown. 42 years of corrupt and tyrannical Zanu PF dictatorship had left the country in economic ruins and political paralysis.

In a healthy and functioning democracy, the people would have removed the corrupt and incompetent Zanu PF from office. Sadly, Zimbabwe is not a healthy democracy, Zanu PF has blatantly rigged elections since 1980 to retain power. The nation is stuck with the regime.

The Zanu PF regime is upset to hear the Americans are determined to retain the sanctions and demands for free and fair elections, especially when the regime thought it was winning everybody over. The regime has reacted angrily, shooting from the hip!

“What the @ US Dept of State has done is an act of cowardice & undoubtedly barbaric conduct that falls below the diplomatic bar,” fired Zanu-PF information director Tafadzwa Mugwadi on twitter.

“It clearly reflects a demented superpower that has gone rogue, now aiming at non-assuming global citizens like Emmerson Jnr, a Chimuka & an unknown housewife.

“Anyway, needless to remind them that President Mnangagwa has reminded us that with or without sanctions, nyika inovaka navene vayo (a country is built by its owners).”

How much longer can Mnangagwa keep up the propaganda he is building Zimbabwe when the reality on the ground shows a failed country in ruins! Mugabe thought he could bluff and bamboozle everyone into believing he was delivering economic prosperity for all and was overwhelmed by the reality on the ground and forced to shut up!

Mugabe was so cocksure his Scientific Socialism policies would deliver mass economic prosperity, “Gutsa ruzhunji!” as he called it, he never tired of saying it throughout the 1980s. These were the usual voodoo economic policies centred on reckless spending especial by the ruling elite. There was nothing scientific in that!

By the end of the 1980s the economy was already in serious trouble and government asked for financial assistance from IMF and WB in the form of the 1990 to 1995 Economic Structural Adjustment Programmes (ESAP), designed to end the reckless spending and kick-start the economic revival.

The programme failed to revive the economy because Zanu PF reduce its spending on programmes affecting the masses but continued with the reckless spending to appease the ruling elite. The second five-year ESAP was agreed it too failed to revive the economy for the same reasons – the regime continued to savage cuts to programmes affecting the masses who forced to tighten their belts whilst the chefs loosened their belts.

By the mid-1990s the economy was now in deep trouble, unemployment was high, wages were low, the quality of basic services such as education and health care were very poor, etc. The standard of living for the majority of Zimbabweans had fallen both qualitatively and quantitatively. There was mass poverty and it was nonsensical to talk of “Gutsa ruzhinji!!” and so Mugabe was forced to drop, until then, his favourite phrase!

Indeed, “Gutsa ruzhinji” and “scientific Socialism” were now used to mock Mugabe.

When Mnangagwa took over the leadership from Mugabe following the November 2017 military coup he was cocksure his “Zimbabwe is open for business!” would open the floodgates of investors and financial assistance the nation had been starved of  the last two decades. He was sure his promise to stamp out corruption and to hold free elections would reassure everyone that Zimbabwe was no longer the corrupt and tyrannical pariah state of Mugabe days. He even insisted in calling his administration a “new democratic dispensation” “Second Republic”. No one was fooled, especially the shrewd investors.

Mnangagwa failed to stamp out corruption, who could he when he is the godfather of corruption and so are all his friends who propelled him into high office.

Zanu PF would never win a free and fair elections. It was inconceivable that he and his fellow November 2017 coup plotters would risk all to stage a coup and wrestle power from Mugabe only to hand it over in a silver platter to others when it was in their power to rig the elections and retain power. And so no one in their right mind was surprised that Mnangagwa did not bother to implement even one token reform to keep his promise to hold free and fair elections.

And so Mnangagwa’s “Zimbabwe is open for business!” was a lead balloon that never took off because everybody could see that Zimbabwe was still a pariah state ruled by the same corrupt, incompetent, murderous and vote rigging thugs or be it with a new dictator and a few other musical-chair changes.

Zimbabwe is a failed state because it is a pariah state and as long as the country remains a pariah state there will be no meaningful economic and political change. How long can Mnangagwa continue to boast of developing and building Zimbabwe when the hospitals, power stations and the rest of the infrastructure Zanu PF inherited from the whites in 1980 are falling apart due to neglect whilst there is precious little of public value the regime has built.

The Zimbabwe Daily had a cartoon of a woman putting neglected ZESA powerlines to some use as drying lines for her washing. In the background is a large elections campaign poster with Mnangagwa promising to electrify the whole country!

Of course, Zanu PF will not win if the elections are free, fair and credible; no one will believe Zanu PF is building the country when all one can see is ruins of whatever the nation inherit from the whites in 1980! To stay in power Zanu PF has no choice but to rig the elections.

The goal of the sanctions is to force the Zanu PF to accept the need to implement the democratic reforms to ensure free and fair elections, “behaviour change” as the American aptly put it. The sanctions must stay.

The sanctions are not going to force Zanu PF to implement the reforms, it is too late for that. Retaining the sanction will remind Zanu PF that the regime will be held to account if the 2023 elections are not free and fair; evidence on the ground points to the regime is rigging these elections. This time the regime must be denied political legitimacy if the elections are rigged.

If Zanu PF is denied political legitimacy then the country will be forced to have another GNU as happened in 2008. The difference is, this time the nation will appoint competent leaders who will implemented the reform and thus finally end the curse of rigged elections and bad governance.

"Zimbabweans are more prepared to celebrate this year's Unity Day than ever before. We have a greater reason to celebrate this year's Unity Day because citizens are more United for change. Citizens see this as the last Unity Day under this oppressive Zanu PF regime. CCC must inspire citizens to celebrate this year's Unity Day by declaring 21 December Yellow Day. Every citizen must wear predominantly Yellow. Yellow is colour on our national flag which represents our minerals. Our minerals are our God given wealth. Unity also like minerals comes from God. Let us cry for change.21 December must be a voter registration reminder day. The talk of the day must be centred on: voter registration; change;”
Your stupidity is blooming and coming to its own like one of those obnoxious weeds, chekacheka, which, if allowed to grow, will quickly spread and choke everything else and become a danger to both man and animals! You idiotic nonsense is now a dangerous poison to the nation.
So you think that by declaring this 21 December as “last under this oppressive Zanu PF regime and wearing predominantly yellow” will be enough to stop Zanu PF rigging the 2023 elections? Only a certified village idiot like you would spread such idiotic nonsense.
Zanu PF is rigging the 2023 elections and we need to take this challenge with the urgency and seriousness the matter demands. Participating in these flawed elections only to give Zanu PF legitimacy is insane, especially after 42 years of rigged elections.
Getting the reforms implemented demands hard work on our part especially now that the golden opportunity to do so during the 2008 to 2013 GNU was wasted by Chitando and his MDC friends. As if the betrayal during the GNU was not bad enough, the dimwits are now encouraging the people to believe there can be change without reforms – just need to wear “predominantly yellow!”
How an idiot like Chitando was ever an MP beggars belief! It will be criminal that his kind should ever again be elected into high office and decide the destiny of this nation. Never again!

    That is the problem.
The right people will not win elections when believers refuse to participate in politics.
Prayer is good, but when it's time to vote, it's your votes that is counted not your prayer points!
Go and get your ID and go out to vote on election Day.
    DO NOT SIT AT HOME!
EVIL PREVAILS WHEN GOOD MEN AND WOMEN DO NOTHING.
Play your part before you leave the rest to God.
It is all very well asking the people to continue to risk life and limb by defying the Zanu PF operatives to vote for you. What changes have you and your fellow MDC friends brought in 22 years on the political stage, 5 of which in the GNU? Name just one democratic change you have brought.
You want people to participate in an election process so flawed that MDC failed to secure power even after winning 73% of the votes in the March 2008 elections. There is not even something as basic as a verified voters’ roll for Pete’s sake. You know that participating will only give vote rigging Zanu PF legitimacy. WHY are you hell bent on participating regardless?
You know that Zanu PF is giving away a few gravy train seats to entice the opposition to participate and you find the bait irresistible! You are selling out the nation’s chance to implement the reforms and end the dictatorship for 30 pieces of silver. You should read about Judas Iscariot, you and your MDC/CCC friends have a lot in common!

  3. Yes, of course, even buffoon like Mnangagwa cannot deny the rot and decay and ruins and abject poverty and human suffering everywhere in Zimbabwe. The rot did not happen overnight or in a few years it all started in 1980 and has been a relentless march, dragging a restless nation every step of the way.
Even the sloth-witted Mnangagwa knows that gross mismanagement and rampant corruptions are the cancers that have all but killed the country’s once promising economy. Money that should have been used to build key national projects like Batoka Gorge Hydro Power Project were squandered on the US$ 2 billion Blue Room mansion, the Pantheon Temple to man’s insatiable greed. The mansion has already been abandoned, Grace Mugabe abandoned it soon after Mugabe’s death to live in Dubai, far from the madding crowds, chaos and ruins.
Mnangagwa keeps blubbering about developing and building the country and yet cannot name even one thing of substance that Zanu PF has built in 42 years. Even the recently open US$ 400 million Mount Hampden Parliament is a sick joke. It is supposed to be a gift from the Chinese, they have been at the heart of the wholesale looting of Zimbabwe’s wealth and the US$400 million is small change from what they loot in just one month!
Yes the reality of the rot, decay and ruins mocks Mnangagwa’s “Nyika inovakwa nevene vayo!” rhetorical nonsense! But trust me this is no more than an insect bite and he has a thick skin! Remember we are dealing with Zanu PF thugs who would rather burnt down the whole country than let anyone else rule – such is they resolve to hang on to power at all costs, as Stuart Doran explained.
“The ‘new’ regime can be viewed from different angles, but the nub of it is this: there’s a recognition that the economic fiasco of the last 20 years was suboptimal, but Emmerson Mnangagwa and his fellow travellers will burn the house down if they feel it necessary. Make no mistake, their will to power is every bit as intense as Mugabe’s—as is their belief that they own the country’s choicest fruits by right of conquest,” wrote Stuart Doran in publication, The Strategist.
“There’s no comprehending Zimbabwe without an appreciation of that mentality. Yet many fail to get it because they don’t read the country’s history. In 1979, at the height of the struggle against white rule, a diplomat who mixed frequently with Mugabe and other leaders of his party observed that ‘ZANU does not seem to attach much importance to the destruction caused by prolonged war’. They said they were content to see Zimbabwe ‘totally’ demolished if that was the price to be paid for preventing others from ruling it. That attitude has not changed an iota, notwithstanding the passage of 40 years and Mugabe’s departure. After all, the men who now rule wielded his hatchets for most of that period.”
Mnangagwa needs the opposition to participate in numbers in these flawed elections just to avoid the 2008 nightmare of SADC denying Zanu PF political legitimacy. He has created POLAD to reward those who fail to win the few gravy train seats. He has many double agents posing as CCC supporters fanning the narrative CCC will win the rigged elections. Indeed, the are stories of Zanu PF bankrolling CCC and other opposition parties’ activities, just to be certain they participate.
Still, Zanu PF must know that getting legitimacy this time will be the greatest challenge the party has ever faced. By adding new names to the sanctions list the Americans are once again drawing attention to the core issue here, free, fair and credible elections, and Zanu PF’s Achilles heel!

“If u do not want to participate, it's your choice and no one can hold u to it. Let those who want to participate, to do so as they are exercising their rights. U have a very undemocratic mind. No wonder u look for the easy but non practical options.”
With rights comes responsibilities, the greater the right the great the responsibilities that comes with it.
Are you have the right to participate in flawed elections knowing fully well the process is flawed and that participating will only give Zanu PF legitimacy? Suring your right cannot be more important here than the rights of all those who will suffer the consequences of your foolishness.
Of course, the scenario soars to an even higher level when the individual insisting on participating is someone like Tendai Biti, David Coltart, Nelson Chamisa, etc. who know all the above and are doing it out of selfish greed- they know Zanu PF is offering a few gravy train seats as bait and they find the bribe irresistible!
There is nothing undemocratic about holding someone to democratic account for exercising their right without due diligence and consideration of others!

Zanu PF has remained in power regardless of all its failures because the party rigs elections and you, Chitando and your MDC friends were elected to stop Zanu rigging elections. Name just one reform you lot have implemented in 22 years, 5 of which in the GNU?
Without reforms Zanu PF is certainly rigging the 2023 elections and you are participating to give the regime legitimacy for the sake of a few gravy train seats. You are selling out the nation’s chance to end this dictatorship for the sake of 30 pieces of silver, just like Judas Iscariot. This sell out must and will be stopped here and now!

"Any normal ZanuPF person will not talk of Sanctions when they beat, intimidate, threaten and burn fellow Zimbabweans. You have the audacity to condemn Britain and America for imposing sanctions on Zimbabwe but can't condemn ZanuPF's barbaric and primitive politics of intolerance? Mnangagwa in every speech must always pronounce condemnation of his ZanuPF's political violence before he talks of sanctions. Zimbabweans have suffered more of ZanuPF political since independence than these sanctions. The elephant in the room is state sponsored political violence.!!"
We must go beyond condemning Zanu PF’s culture of violence and ask ourselves why we have failed to end it? We had the golden opportunity to end it during the 2008 to 2013 GNU and you and your MDC friends wasted it. Worse still you lot are the ones giving Zanu PF legitimacy by participating in these flawed.
The elephant in the room is not just the state sponsored violence but those amongst us who are paying lip service to dealing with the problem.
Indeed, MDC/CCC have not only betrayed on implementing reforms they have given up on reforms and are now cooperating with Zanu PF for a share of the spoils of power. “Jema noyadya!” as one would say in Shona. This is the madness we must deal with and which we must and will stop!

“Please give us the reforms you think will change everything. Please be very specific on the reforms. This will help some of us whom you have labeled all sort of madness to grasp. We want the reforms timazivevo ungabatsira chose.”
If you are serious about learning from me then you must answer the questions, I ask you!
Has the list of reforms you lot implemented since 2000 stopped Zanu PF rigging the elections, I asked for example. The answer is clearly no, Zanu PF have not stopped rigging the elections as the evidence shows. The conclusion is equally obvious, the list of reforms you have implemented has been ineffective.
Whilst I accept that it may have never occurred to you Jeffryson Chitando and a handful other MDC leaders that the reforms you had implemented were useless I find it hard to accept that for five years of the GNU it never occurred to anyone of the entire MDC T and MDC N leaders that the reforms you had implemented were useless.
Indeed it is a historic fact that SADC leaders reminded MDC leaders repeatedly throughout the GNU to implement the reforms but were ignored.
Even some one would does not know the reforms MDC implemented were useless has to admit they were useless and more significantly that many other MDC leaders knew this.
So, the more realistic and productive line of inquiry here would be why did the MDC leaders fail to implement even one meaningful reform in five years of the GNU?
This is the more important question to answer because it also explains why I say MDC/CCC are selling out by participating in these flawed elections and it is very foolish to continue to follow them blindly!

These men and women did not only sell out during the GNU but continue to do so to this day by insisting on participating in flawed elections for the sake of the few gravy train seats Zanu PF is offering as bribes. They are the one perpetuating the dictatorship and the tragic human suffering in Zimbabwe.

This is just kick starting the mad season in which everyone focus on election manifesto! What is the point of detailed manifesto when there is no chance of you winning the election and putting even one policy into practice.
Zimbabwe is in this economic mess because for 42 years the country has been stuck with a corrupt and incompetent government. Coming up with sound economic policies is the easy bit, given some of the voodoo policies of Zanu PF. Getting Zanu PF to give up power is the real challenge here.
When you have failed to hold free, fair and credible elections in 42 years, that tells you the challenge is not economic but political.
MDC leaders have been on the political stage for 22 years, 5 of which in the GNU but have failed to make any change because they wasted the opportunity to implement reform and stop Zanu PF rigging the elections. Since the GNU debacle they have settled for the few gravy train seats Zanu PF gives away as bait.
It is clear there are many others who are challenging Chamisa and co. for the few gravy train seats. They know without reforms Zanu PF is rigging the elections they are not challenging Zanu PF, they are not calling for reforms and free elections; they are challenging CCC for a share of the bait seats.

That was only a rhetorical question, we all know why you are hell bent on participating in these elections regardless of the rigging and the fact that by participating you are giving Zanu PF legitimacy – GREED. Zanu PF is giving away a few gravy train seats and you find the bait irresistible!
Zanu PF knows that as long as CCC and the rest in the opposition participate in numbers in these flawed elections, it has added the POLAD rewards for those who fail to get the few gravy train seats as an added attraction; the party will rig elections and still have legitimacy. MDC/CCC not only sold out by failing to implement reforms but continue to sell out by participating in these flawed elections to give Zanu PF legitimacy.
You have your eyes on Budiriro 2 MP seat and you too can claim the US$60 000 bribe to buy a car, US$40 000 to buy a house and all the many other opportunities to loot! You are just a sell out masquerading as a democrat! This madness must now be challenged and stopped!

  13. "The issue of government loans has been topical of late. The truth of the matter is that l haven't seen any money and l don't know about anything concerning the US$ 40 000 housing loan," said Innocent Gonese.
CCC President Nelson Chamisa has labelled the housing loans as a desperate allurement attempt by the mass party Zanu-PF to swindle CCC members.

There has been an uproar from citizens who felt that the move by government is not a loan but a bribe.

Other reports indicate that Allan Norman Markham is the only CCC MP to refuse the government loan.
Gonese is a hypocrite. He was a senior member of MDC during then GNU and knows fully well that MDC leaders did not implement any reforms throughout the five years of the GNU because Mugabe bribed them with the trappings of high office. The failure to implement the reforms has been the mother of all betrayals. For Gonese to then be pontificating now is two-faced hypocrisy of the worst kind!

If you are a Christian, then you would know that the ten commandments remain a key teaching although it is now over 3 000 years ago when God gave them to Moses. Why? Because they are still as relevant today as they were back then.
Zanu PF is rigging these 2023 elections just as the party has rigged the 2018 elections, etc. The only sure way to stop Zanu PF rigging elections is by implementing the reforms taking away the regime’s carte blanche powers to rig elections. You and your CCC friends have come up with all manner of idiotic “winning in rigged elections (WIRE) strategies”, that have all failed to stop the rigging. Your present mass voter registration is dead in the water as you lot only managed to register ¼ million out of your own set target of 6 million. 4%!
You froth and fume at the mention of reforms for three reasons:
    1) because you know MDC sold out big time by failing to implement even one reform in 22 years, 5 of which in the GNU,
    2) Chamisa and company failed to implement even one reform because they are corrupt and breathtakingly incompetent.
    3) CCC are hell bent on participating in these flawed elections out of greed and these idiotic WIRE strategies are just hot air, a smoke screen, to hide the greed.
Well I will not stop talking about reforms because they are relevant and the only sure way to stop Zanu PF rigging the elections. I would rather talk about reforms a million times a day than see this nation be dragged into the insanity of yet another rigged elections especially after 42 years of rigged elections!
I am not here to message your misplaced ego and so you can froth, fume and fart all you want, I will never be bullied or bamboozled by a village idiot! Never! The nation’s very survival is far more important that your ego and your CCC leaders’ insatiable greed.

Zanu PF is rigging these 2023 elections just as it has rigged 2018, 2013, etc. The only sure way to stop the rigging is by implementing the democratic reform. MDC/CCC are participating in these flawed elections knowing fully well that doing so will only give Zanu PF legitimacy. They are participating regardless because they also know that Zanu PF is giving away a few gravy train seats. These are the historic facts we are dealing with here!
We cannot have free elections without implementing the reforms! You just do want the reforms mentioned because doing so bring up the historic fact that MDC has failed to implement even one reform in 22 years, 5 of which in the GNU. And so you are now wittering about oxymoronic nonsense of winning rigged elections!
I accept there are some individuals with serious intellectual challenges. They will happily talk about democratic changes but have no idea those changes are brought about by implementing reforms. They call their radio Change Radio, Chamisa Change Champion in Chief, the party Citizen Coalition for Change, etc., etc. And yet cannot name one democratic change the party has brought in 22 years, 5 of which in the GNU, because there is not even one change!
In the first paragraph above remove reform and replace it with change and the historic facts remain unchanged! CCC are participating in these flawed elections, with no democratic changes, to give Zanu PF legitimacy out of greed.
Chitando, Chief Svosve, Tsar Idiot, you Chris, etc. are all teaming up to stop the truth being spoken. I for one has never been bullied and bamboozled into silence by Zanu PF thugs and I am certainly not going to allow some MDC upstarts silence me now!

Mr Mbalula must not get over excited and start feeding the people with raw propaganda. He must rather concentrate on high crime rate in South Africa.

The ANC has actually failed to push for a free and fair election in Zimbabwe but instead has been found aiding the brutality of Zanu PF. This big brother syndrome where revolutionary political parties fail to call into order fellow parties is the one killing the African states.

These revolutionary parties are proving to be scams and allergic to change in Africa and putting the whole continent into a shame.”
You re spot on, ANC has been idiotic in the past eg by endorsing Zimbabwe’s rigged elections as “substantially free and fair” and thus giving Zanu PF legitimacy. This is just yet another idiotic decision by ANC. Regime change is the prerogative of the people in a free and fair elections; something Zimbabweans have been denied.
It is therefore idiotic that ANC should be reoccupied with stopping regime change in a country that has routinely failed to hold free and fair elections. Mbalula also pledged the ANC will support Zimbabwe in its quest to have sanctions imposed on it by the West lifted.

ANC has in the past called for the lifting of the Western imposed embargoes arguing they have led to an influx of immigrants in their country and consequently strained social service delivery.

Added Mliswa: "That's why for all the many issues of substance that Zimbabwe faces he chose to prance for hollow adulations by focusing on the populistic. Are sanctions central to our problems vis-a-vis other bigger problems we have? Why not address them all and also if he is sincere?

"If he is sincere about their sister party Zanu-PF turning things around and being protected from a regime change agenda, why not address its myriad shortcomings and cite issues that actually and presently imperil it?

"The very recent ANC NEC results which returned Mbalula and Ramaphosa is itself a scandal which the former should be focusing on. Ramaphosa has become a version of Wadyajena, surviving in politics through buying support while facing court challenges."

For once Mliswa is saying something that makes sense. You are right that it is not ANC’s prerogative to cause or stop regime change in Zimbabwe. But it is laughable that Mliswa should be wittering about regime change being the prerogative of the Zimbabwean people when his whole political career is built on denying the people their right to free and fair elections!

"Something is not right in their own country (and) we must support them. Once that country becomes what it was, there will be no Zimbabwean here. So, the British must think very hard about what they have done, and the Americans. They must uplift the sanctions so that Zimbabwe can grow."

Mbalula said the Western nations should not use sanctions "to deepen the pain and the impoverishment" in Zimbabwe.

Zimbabwe’s economic meltdown is caused by decades of gross mismanagement and rampant corruption it is nonsensical that anyone would still be blaming the sanctions given all the evidence! The one thing Zimbabweans want is to deal with the country’s problems and stop wasting time on imaginary ones! If ANC leaders have nothing useful to say, please shut up!
