CCC will be "ipso facto enemy of the people" if accept Norway funding, says Professor Moyo - what a hypocrite n Garikai

"Any political party that is funded or capacitated by any foreign government to contest elections or grab political power is by definition treacherous, and ipso facto an enemy of the people!" twittered Professor Jonathan Moyo.

He was responding to reports that the Norwegians are planning to bankroll Nelson Chamisa and his Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) party in the 2023 elections.

One thing certain to be said about Professor Jonathan Moyo – is that he a sell sell-out par excellence. He would sell his own mother for a price and be proud he had a mother to sell! There is plenty of anecdotal evidence in his checked political career to back this up.

Zimbabwe’s late dictator, Robert Mugabe, who knew Jonathan Moyo called the Professor a “devil incarnate”; rest assured, it was not just for Moyo’s good looks alone!

Zanu and Zapu were backed by China and Russia respectively during the struggle for Zimbabwe’s independence, for example. I have never heard Professor Moyo call the two parties “enemies of the people”!

Moyo has publicly supported Nelson Chamisa and his CCC and suddenly party is now “treacherous, and ipso facto an enemy of the people” just because the Norwegians are offering to fund it. What a truck load of bull!

My bone of contention with anyone, foreigner or local, giving moral, military and/or financial support to an individual, political party, NGO or whatever knowing fully well the latter’s work is undermining the wellbeing of the country. And anyone damaging the wellbeing of the public is an enemy of the people. The question is why anyone would knowingly support the enemy of the people?

It was USA ambassador to Zimbabwe 2004 to 2007, Chris Dell, who revealed in a leaked cable back to Washington that the late Morgan Tsvangirai was “flawed and indecisive character who, should he ever got into power, would become an albatross round the nation’s (Zimbabwe) neck!”

More leaked cables showed that the US Ambassador had an equally low opinion of the other MDC leaders. So, MDC was but a flock of flawed and indecisive wondering albatrosses the people of Zimbabwe had to be wary of.

Lo and behold MDC did got into power notably into the 2008 to 2013 Government of National Unity (GNU). The party had the golden opportunity to implement the democratic reforms which would have ended the Zanu PF dictatorship. They wasted the opportunity and failed to implement even one token democratic reform. Worst of all by participating in the flawed elections MDC are now giving Zanu PF legitimacy and thus help perpetuate the dictatorship.

MDC cum the rebranded CCC has become the albatross round the nation’s neck, as Ambassador Dell had predicted.

And yet it was none other than the Americans and their western allies who have generously funded Morgan Tsvangirai and his MDC friends’ political activities throughout the period 1999 to 2013. The West knew MDC leaders are corrupt, incompetent and utterly useless, an albatross dragging the nation into the crashing abyss.

None of these western nations would tolerate such mediocre leaders in their own countries and yet rolled out the red carpet to underline the high regard they hold MDC leaders! The moral and financial backing of the West gave leaders like Tsvangirai enormous power and influence especially amongst the ignorant and naïve masses.

It is a historic fact that many thinking Zimbabweans and a few SADC leaders made a concerted effort to get the MDC albatrosses to implement the democratic reforms during the GNU, for example. It is infuriate to note that western nations, who clearly had more influence over the MDC albatrosses, they bankrolled and fed them, never lifted a finger to get MDC to implement reforms.

It was only after the 2013 elections when it was clear MDC had failed to implement even one reform during the GNU that many of their western backers deserted the party in droves. It was too late the damage was done, Zimbabwe had wasted one golden opportunity to implement reforms and end the Zanu PF dictatorship.

Since the 2008 to 2013 GNU debacle a head of steam has been building up to show the MDC/CCC’s continued participation in these flawed elections giving Zanu PF legitimacy as the root cause of the nation is now stuck in this political paralysis. Norway’s decision to bankroll CCC’s political activities will undermine efforts to end the insanity of rigged elections and give Chamisa’s oxymoronic foolishness of “winning in rigged elections” fresh legs! What a nightmare!

Zimbabwe, like most African countries, is caught between the rock and the hard place. We are caught between the corrupt and tyrannical ruling party who are bankrolled by the Chinese for the sole purpose of exploiting and looting the country, on the one hand. On the other, are flawed and utterly useless opposition who are bankrolled by the West in the vain hope some good will come of it.

Tanzania is one of the African countries that has been held back after decades of West, notably the Scandinavian countries, bankrolling the late President Mwalimu Julius Nyerere’s misplace socialism. The socialism experiment was finally abandoned but by then a lot of damage had been done.

Of course, nothing good will ever come out of Norway funding CCC to participate in flawed elections to give vote rigging Zanu PF legitimacy and perpetuate the dictatorship. Nothing! The only ones to benefit from this folly is Zanu PF who are keen to see CCC participate in these flawed elections and get legitimacy!

  1. CCC interim secretary for rural mobilisation, Happymore Chidziva told NewsDay that the party's rural mobilisation exercise, code-named Mugwazo, would be a "game-changer" as the country heads for the 2023 elections.

"We have launched a massive recruitment and mobilisation exercise called Mugwazo. We are meeting ordinary citizens in rural areas. This is a nationwide programme in which we are mobilising people to register to vote and recruiting them to the CCC party," Chidziva said.

The CCC rallies are well attended but, as we should all know by now, the well-attended rallies in Zimbabwe do not necessarily translate into votes. MDC A now rebranded CCC has put voter registration centre-stage of its “winning in rigged elections” strategies. The party has targeted to have 6 million register to vote in 2023. The voter registration exercise was launched in December 2020 and since the beginning of this year it was accelerated into blitz mode. Zanu PF set a target of registering 5 million.

ZEC announced that so far only 250 000 had registered to vote, 4% of CCC’s target of 6 million and 5% of Zanu PF’s target.

Masvingo Mirror video of a Mutendi High School bus parked outside the registry office with Zanu PF supporters getting ID and registering as voters has gone viral. Clearly Zanu PF has ways and means of boosting the number of registered voters to reach its set target. The same cannot be said of opposition.

CCC will never reach its 6 million registered voters target and so its flagship strategy is dead in the water. Zanu PF is rigging these elections and by participating CCC is giving Zanu PF legitimacy. This is the madness behind Zimbabwe’s 42 years of rigged elections and we must end it! And end it we will!

“There are some terms that those in leadership in Zimbabwe are so fond of throwing around, of which I have always found most disconcerting - such as, "we need constructive criticism", and "you should proffer solutions, not merely criticizing".

I have never truly wrapped my mind around such thinking - since, it has always been my belief that, the most effective way in encouraging positive change and progress in anyone's life, was through honest identification of where they were going wrong.

In fact, in my own personal life, I attribute the phenomenal transformations (for the good) that I have undergone, to those who have had the love and care to tell me what I needed to hear, and not what they thought I wanted to hear (and, would make me feel good about myself, even if that was delusional).

Even my wife Tinta, knows how I encouraged and inculcated in her the culture of always being brutally honest with me whenever she spotted anything untoward - no matter how unsavoury or potentially hurting to my feelings and ego - since, she is my mirror, which had to show me a frank reflection of who I truly was.

Only those with a low self-esteem have a fragile ego, such that cannot handle the truth when it hits them in the face!

I have taught her that, true love is the ability to correct those you love - such that, even when my fly is open, everyone else will simply laugh behind my back (or, even encourage the wrong), but you are the one who can show me where I have erred.

That is why it is so troubling whenever I listen to our leadership in Zimbabwe utter such statements as, "we need constructive criticism", and "you should proffer solutions, not merely criticizing" - as it makes me wonder exactly in what form that "constructive criticism and solutions" should take - considering that, in most times, simply being alerted to one's mistakes and shortcomings can be what exactly "the doctor ordered".

If we have a ruling elite that is prone to looting national resources (especially, through scandalous dealings with unscrupulous shady characters), and has no qualms ruthlessly quashing any who may raise objections - then, what "constructive criticism and solutions" do they surely expect?

Indeed, offering solutions is a very good thing - whose importance can never, and should never, be understated or underestimated - nonetheless, this "solution" can be something as simple as pointing out where those in power are getting it wrong, and how that is adversely affecting the rest of the population.

    Another thought-provoking article, thank you.

Those with simple minds whose understanding of issues is potato-skin deep have a deep-rooted aversion to criticism. They are fearful of being shown for whom they really are – they like to masquerade as the wise King Solomon himself when in reality they are shallow, thick and slow. The tend to have a binary mentality, they either support or the don’t, they see right or wrong, black or white.

To criticise Zanu PF in the 1980s earned one the label of being brainwashed by the whites. Today those who dare criticise CCC are Zanu PF supporters! These morons will attack the messenger and not the message.

It is truly tragic that in a world with all the colours of the rainbow one should only see black or white! And having this tunnel vision amongst the leaders and the led is the root cause of our downfall. We have failed to learn from the past and are always blundering from pillar to post!

Lest you should ever forget, Zimbabwe is stuck in this economic and political mess because you and your MDC/CCC friends failed to implement even one democratic reform in 22 years, 5 of which in the GNU because you are corrupt and incompetent. Since the GNU you lot are the ones who have kept Zanu PF in power by participating in flawed elections against repeated advice not to. Your “winning in rigged elections” strategies are just hot air and oxymoronic nonsense.

Zimbabweans are ignorant, naïve, gullible and are desperate for change and in their desperation the are now putting their trust in you and your corrupt and incompetent friends to get them out of the mess. They have clearly learned nothing from MDC/CCC checked track record of betrayal and failure. With the nation’s economy in total meltdown, 50% living in abject poverty and Zanu PF is here to stay thanks to CCC; the nation is in for a rough ride!

Happy Friday! Says the one who calls himself Change Champion in Chief but has changed nothing in 22 years. Cry the beloved country!

“In all the nonsense that you wrote here the only part where you seem to make sense is where you suggest that the election should be declared null and void, i assume that will be after it's held, right. Don't tell us anything about SADC here because that organisation is as good as it's not even there or it's pro Zanu PF. Now let me tell you this, for as long as that useless body still recognises Zanu PF as a democratically elected party then we can't mention them in anything that involves Zim elections, i guess you know what i mean by this so no need to go into details. Boycotting the election is not an option so take a chill pill bru. The goal remains to unsit the ruthless Chipangano or die trying, better that way.”

I totally agree with you there that out holy grail is to end the corrupt and tyrannical autocracy that Zanu PF imposed on the nation. I believe this can be done by implementing the democratic reforms designed to end Zanu PF’s control of the state institutions like ZEC, Police, etc. and restore the individual freedoms and rights including the right to free and fair elections.

Zimbabwe had the golden opportunity to implement the reforms during the 2008 to 2013 GNU. It is a historic fact that not even one meaningful reform was implemented. Not one! You and me must agree to differ on who is to blame for this.

There is no denying that with no reforms, elections are flawed and illegal. You cannot have free elections without something as basic as a verified voters’ roll, no free public media, etc. By participating in these flawed elections, insisting MDC/CCC has “winning in rigged elections” strategies, Chamisa and company are giving vote rigging Zanu PF legitimacy.
What is at issue here, the holy grail, is to make sure we implement reforms to ensure free and fair elections. Chamisa and company’s “winning in rigged elections” mantra must be dismissed with the contempt it rightly deserves because it is founded on the foolish notion that Zanu PF ruling elite have the right to rig elections.

Norway is a just, prosperous, and stable country today precisely because it is founded on solid democratic values and principles including holding of free, fair and credible elections. By offering to bankroll CCC’s political activities Norway is per se endorsing CCC’s idiotic position to build Zimbabwe on quicksand of corruption, tyranny, flawed and illegal elections. We are not going to build Zimbabwe on quicksand even if someone else is paying for it!

“No matter how much resistance the opposition faces, the CCC leadership has proved to be political giants compared with the current cohort.

Chamisa and crew are far more visionary, intellectually astute, open to new ideas and far wiser.
Many people have become downtrodden under the leadership of Zanu-PF so much that they no longer have any hope or expectation of anything in their lives.

They have lost all hope and become so tired of eating the crumbs falling from the tables of their leaders.

Zanu-PF is slowly losing the grip on power and its last hope is canvassing for support from the mujibhas (war collaborators) by giving some sort of inducement from this broke government.”

So, you think CCC are going to win the 2023 elections because Chamisa and company are “pollical giants with vision and are intellectually astute”! How naïve! Chamisa and company have failed to implement even one meaningful democratic reform to stop Zanu PF rigging the elections for the last 22 years, 5 of which in the GNU. Where was their vision and intellectual astuteness then?

Zanu PF is blatantly rigging these elections, all of CCC’s so called “winning in rigged elections” strategies are just hot air and by participating Chamisa is giving Zanu PF legitimacy. The nauseating stupidity of CCC’s winning in rigged elections mantra must be denounce here and now and not have to wait for the results of the 2023 rigged elections!

After 42 years of rigged elections it is insane to still hunger for rigged elections and expect a different result.

  6. Zimbabwe is taking steps to tackle an inflation rate that's jumped to 132% after its currency slumped, Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube said.

"We are instituting measures that every other country in the world is instituting," Ncube said in an interview with Bloomberg Television's Manus Cranny and Yousef Gamal El-Din from Davos on Thursday. "We are not in panic mode."

Ncube attributed the surge in inflation, which is above 100% for the first time in 10 months, to rising prices of imported food, fuel and fertilizer and said the stronger dollar had affected the domestic currency. In 2008, a bout of hyperinflation led to the scrapping of the Zimbabwe dollar, which was only reintroduced in 2019. Inflation exceeded 800% in 2020.

Zimbabwe is a pariah state ruled by corrupt and incompetent thugs who have rigged election to secure their iron grip on power. As long as the country remains a pariah state there will be no meaningful economic recovery.

Zanu PF is blatantly rigging the 2023 elections and, thanks to CCC, the party will get legitimacy and stay in power for another five more years! The country’s stuck thanks to the corrupt and incompetent MDC/CCC leaders who failed to implement the reforms to stop the rigging and are now participating in flawed elections to give Zanu PF legitimacy.

  7. The trouble with Zanu PF apologists like Dr Mavaza is they are always telling Mnangagwa what he wants to hear as contrast to what he should hear. Indeed given Zimbabwe's desperate economic situation, tell him what he MUST hear. Zimbabwe is in serious economic trouble and as long as the country remains a pariah state governed by corrupt, incompetent thugs who rig elections to stay in power, there will be no meaningful economic recovery.

This return trip to Davos as with his first trip, to sell "Zimbabwe is open for business!" is a waste of time and money because the world knows Zimbabwe is a pariah state.

    You and I can debate and agree to differ on what the GNU was about and role SADC played in it. The following keys points are historic facts, clear and beyond debate;
    1) no meaningful reforms were implemented hence the reason why Zanu PF has been able to rig the elections
    2) participating in the flawed elections has given Zanu PF legitimacy without changing much
    3) most significant of all, participating in these flawed elections under the MDC/CCC mantra of “winning in rigged elections” mantra is fundamental wrong in that it reaffirms Zanu PF’s position that the party has a right to rig elections and undermining the fundamental right of every citizen to a meaningful say in the governance of the country. By bankrolling CCC’s participation in these flawed elections Norway is, per se, endorsing CCC’s mantra.

  9. THE Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) reportedly has refused to release a copy of the voters roll for analysis by independent watchdogs such as the Election Resource Centre (ERC), raising fears that the elections management body wanted to hide something.

Addressing journalists in Harare yesterday, ERC director Barbara Dube said the elections watchdog has made several requests to no avail.

"In conformity with section 21 of the Electoral Act, ERC requested electronic copies of the current voters roll and the roll that were used for the parliamentary by-elections. To date, ERC has not been provided with the electronic copies of either the current voter roll that were used for the March 26 by-elections," Dube said.
An ERC analysis shows that there are 75 524 electorates who are registered to vote at the same polling station on the voters roll, but also registered at different polling stations. ERC said the problem was prevalent in urban polling areas.

The analysis also exposed how registrants who appearing at different polling locations on the 2022 voter roll, but their addresses did not change.
This is all too familiar! For the record, ZEC has never ever produced a verified voters’ roll. The law is very clear, ZEC is supposed to have a voters’ roll available for verification by all the stakeholders at all times. Soon after a national elections the voters’ roll used in the elections will constitute base voters’ roll. A register will be opened of new voters, those whose details have changed and those to be deleted from the base voters’ roll. The base voters’ roll must be up date to included all the change at least once before the next national elections . The up dated voters’ roll must be available for verifying at least one calendar month before the national elections.
ZEC should be able to produce the base voters’ roll from the 2018 elections or else the up dated voters’ roll for verification. However, it is not surprising that ZEC is failing to produce either copy, given the commission has never ever produced a copy of the verified voters roll. What is really surprising is that the opposition have participated in these flawed elections even when it is crystal clear this is just one way for Zanu PF to blatantly rig the elections.
MDC A under Nelson Chamisa participated in the 2018 elections knowing fully well that ZEC had failed to produce a verified voters’ roll. ZEC is NOT producing a verified voters’ roll in 2023 and we can be 100% certain CCC will participate in the elections regardless! Why?

Nelson Chamisa know Zanu PF is rigging these elections but as long as the regime allows CCC to win a few gravy train seats CCC will participate in the flawed elections giving Zanu PF legitimacy. It is for us, ordinary Zimbabweans to wake up to the reality of MDC/CCC leaders selling out on reforms and free elections and demand an end to this insanity!

  10. "3 people were injured after ZANUPF thugs attacked our members soon after Kwekwe victory celebration rally today. We continue to condemn any violent behaviour by members of ZANUPF particularly those from the Midlands province. The perpetrators must face justice." The party posted on Twitter.

Commenting on the incident, opposition aligned journalist Hopewell Chin'ono said, "After Zimbabwe's main opposition leader Nelson Chamisa finished addressing a rally in the Midlands town of Kwekwe, this is what ZANUPF Thugs did to @CCCZimbabwe supporters. 3 were hospitalized after the brutal attack. This shows a tragic group of youths with no ideas at all!"

Zimbabwe had the golden opportunity to implement the democratic reforms and put an end to this culture violence and rigged elections during the 2008 to 2013 GNU. The double tragedy is that the MDC leaders, who had the task of implementing the reforms not only failed to implement even one reform but worst of all they are the ones driving this idiotic notion of “winning rigged election”! In other words they have abandoned reforms giving Zanu PF the carte blanche powers to rig elections in the believe they can still win the flawed election. Of course, this is insane especially after 42 years of rigged elections!

It is not just the Zanu PF youths who have no idea; the CCC leaders and their foolish cheer leaders are insane!
