"Military are not going to let Chamisa rule!" - warning underlining need for reforms BEFORE 2023 elections P Guramatunhu

“Thinking that the military are just wearing overalls (military gear) for Chamisa to just rule, fear God” George Charamba tweeted.

MDC had the golden opportunity to implement the democratic reforms including reforms of the military, Police, CIO and Prison Services; sadly, the golden opportunity was wasted because not even one reform was ever implemented in five years. Zanu PF was gloriously happy that no reforms ever saw the light of day and have since been boasting about their dictatorial powers.

Can Zimbabwe ever have free, fair and credible elections without first implementing the democratic reforms designed to cut the umbilical cord tying Zanu PF to the Army, Police, etc.? The answer has to be an emphatic NO!

SADC leaders advised Morgan Tsvangirai and his MDC friends not to participate in the 2013 elections without first implementing the democratic reforms. The MDC leaders did not listen and have participated in Zimbabwe’s flawed elections, so flawed the MDC never had any real chance of winning the majority for them to form the new government. MDC leaders participated to give the vote rigging Zanu PF legitimacy and a share of the spoils of power in the form of a few gravy train seats, as their reward.

When Emmerson Mnangagwa seized power from Mugabe in 2017 he was cocksure he was going to kick-start the Zimbabwe economic. He was cocksure investors would flood into the country is answer to his “Zimbabwe is open for business!” clarion call! No investors came because they are shrewd lot who know that the musical chair challenges following the November 2017 military could had changed nothing in Zimbabwe.

Zimbabwe was a Banana Republic ruled by corrupt, incompetent and murderous thugs before the coup; the same thugs were in power after the coup. Nothing had changed!

Zimbabwe’s worsening economic situation means Zanu PF will have to resort to the same wanton violence as that seen in 2008 to force people to vote for the party. Charamba’s tweet is a shot across the bow!

The truth with 49% of the population now living in abject poverty, the nation’s education and health care services all but totally collapsed the nation is desperate for change. Desperate people will do desperate things, the threat of the country descend into chaos and civil protests in now a matter of time.

The nation is now deeply regretting the wasted opportunities to implement the democratic reforms and end the Zanu PF dictatorship. This is not the time for feeling sorry for ourselves and cry over spilt milk. However, this is the right time to finally acknowledge that MDC leaders are corrupt and incompetent and, most important of all, to acknowledge they are the last people the nation must look up to, to get out of this mess.

The way forward, the sure way to manage both the Zanu PF threat of violence and the threat of civil violence through street protests, is to demand the implementation of the democratic reforms designed to end Zanu PF’s draconian powers.

The 2023 elections must be postponed until the reforms are implemented. Both Zanu PF and MDC would want the 2023 elections to go ahead with no reforms in place; this is just foolish designed to give the vote rigging Zanu PF legitimacy with nothing of substance to be gained as the 2013 and 2018 elections have shown.

An interim administration must be appointment to implement the democratic reforms. The very fact that MDC and Zanu PF failed to implement any reforms during the 2008 to 2013 GNU does not mean the reforms are not important; they are important. Indeed, we are up to our eyes in this mess precisely because it was folly to have kicked the reforms down the road all these years.

Just because MDC and Zanu PF failed to implement even one reform does not mean there are no men and women who can do this; there are plenty who can!

Time is of the essence; we must appoint the interim administration a.s.a.p. or the events on the ground will overwhelm us all!

  1. Thank you Nomazulu, you have hit the nail on the head; Chamisa and his MDC friends will never bring about any democratic changes in Zimbabwe. Never! They had their golden opportunity to do so during the 2008 to 2013 GNU and they wasted it because their had their snouts in the feeding trough enjoying the spoils of high office – politics of the stomach.
What Chamisa et al are waiting for is the people, out of desperation for change, revolting against the Zanu PF dictatorship. MDC leaders will disappear throughout the violent clashes only to emerge well the dirty work is done to claim victory and, most important of all, seize the crown.
Zimbabwe did not need to sink into these nauseating depths of depravity and desperation if MDC leaders had implemented the democratic reforms when they had the chance to do so.
Indeed, the nation can be spared the agony of violent revolution if the opportunist opposition did the right thing and demand the implementation of reforms before the 2023 elections. Short of holding a gun to his head with will not stop Chamisa, Mwonzora, Madhuku, etc. participating in the 2023 elections; they do care the elections are not free and fair as long as they have a chance to win the few gravy train seats and/or POLAD perks – politics of the stomach!

“This is wishful kind of an article very far from what is actually happening in Zim bcoz the writer is far far away into some very cold countries and not very much sure of what is on the ground .Hence she tells us that she will be insulted for writing lies she knows very well that she just wrote a heap of lies which is not going to go down well with those in Zim and fighting zanu .For someone to say the visit to UK by ED is a blow to Chamisa is near to lunatic bcoz how is that visit going to increase the votes for under fire ED ? If that is nit wishful thinking what is it? If you were here just after the news that lungu bite the dust in Zambia you could not have wasted your time write this kind of nonsense bcoz every way it was sekusele u ED kwacaala ED next is ED. that is why you see zanu is so scared and not saying nothing about those elections in Zambia. Chamisa is our next president like it or not it is just like that!”
There are people in Zimbabwe, on the ground, who know what they are talking about on Zimbabwe politics just as there are others, who are on the ground too, but have no clue what is happening around them. By the same token there are people outside Zimbabwe whose analysis of the situation in the country is spot-on whilst there are other with no clue what they are wittering about. In other words; judge someone’s contribution purely on what he/she has said and not whether he/she is in Zimbabwe or outside!

No one has the monopoloy of knowledge and everyone must be encouraged to play a part in the search for a way forward for Zimbabwe.

Zimbabwe should have had regime change decades ago, the nation had been desperate for change all these years, and the only reason Zanu PF is still in power is because MDC leaders are corrupt and breathtakingly incompetent!

Mweembe, you and your fellow MDC supporters’ stupidity is what is keeping Zanu PF in power and the nation stuck in this mess! “Chamisa is our next president like it or not it is just like that!” How naïve considering MDC should have been in power decades ago!

  2. It was Professor Jonathan Moyo who once said that if elections were free, fair and credible the people of Zimbabwe would rather vote for donkey than Robert Mugabe. The people of Zimbabwe are that desperate for change and Zanu PF knows that. What the party is doing here is reminding the people that the party has the army in its deep pockets and will not hesitate to use brute force to silence all descent.

Zanu PF must also know that there is a limit to how long one can resist change by using force or whatever because the pressure for change is unrelenting and it is just a matter of when not if all resistance will be swept aside. Zanu PF thugs are kidding themselves if they believe the present political system in Zimbabwe with all its grotesque injustices and human misery can late for much longer.

Zanu PF is an abomination and is doomed!

If nothing is done to restore sanity by implementing the reforms to ensure free, fair and credible elections then the only other alternative for regime change is violence, street protests and/or military coup. So if you are itching for blood shed, you will not be disappointed.
Mnangagwa and company may think they have stopped political change happening in Zimbabwe; the truth is all they have done is delayed change because no mortal can stop change. The choice is to accept peaceful and orderly change and by resisting peaceful change one has, per se, chosen violent change.
By resisting peaceful change, one is building a wall across the river and the volume of water behind the wall will translate into growing pressure on the retaining wall. Greater the volume of the dammed water, the greater the tsunami wave that will cascade, sweeping all before it, the day the walls finally give way.

  4. Mugabe has been utterly ruthless in his resolve to create a de facto one-party, Zanu PF, dictatorship. It all started with the Gukurahundi massacre to force the late Joshua Nkomo and his PF Zapu to dissolve PF Zapu. When Nkomo finally threw in the towel and signed the 1987 Unity Accord after the death of over 20 000 mainly PF Zapu supporters, Mugabe was gloriously happy, he imposed the one-party dictatorship under the pretext of national unity.

Of course, it is nonsense that there cannot be national unity in a multi-party democracy. Mugabe wanted absolute power and the one-party dictatorship was the sure way of securing it, especially when it was already clear by the late 1980s that he was failing to deliver on his promise of mass prosperity, “Gutsa ruzhinji!” as he never tired of saying it.

To consolidate his strangle hold on power Mugabe corrupted the country’s state institution such as Judiciary, Police, the Army, etc. turning them into Zanu PF departments in all but name, all committed to his no-regime change ethos!

The 2008 elections showed just how much total control Zanu PF had over the nation. SADC leaders were right to reject Mugabe and his Zanu PF party as the legitimate government following such a blatantly rigged election. The regional leaders forced Mugabe to accept the need for a raft of democratic reforms designed to dismantle the dictatorship and the 2008 to 2013 GNU was tasked to implement the reforms.

It is a great pity that Morgan Tsvangirai and his MDC friends, the pointer party to implement the reforms, proved to be corrupt and hopelessly incompetent. They failed to implement even one reform in five years.

Worse still, MDC leaders have been participating in flawed and illegal elections giving the vote rigging Zanu PF legitimacy in return for a few gravy train seats.

The people of Zimbabwe must now cut the MDC nonsense of trying to win rigged elections and insist on having the democratic reforms implemented BEFORE elections.

  5. Yes Zanu PF will resort to the 2008 dirty tactics to win the 2023 elections and why not! Zanu PF knows that no matter how flawed and illegal the elections process gets, the opposition will participate guaranteed and by participating give legitimacy to the vote rigging Zanu PF.

Zanu PF has allowed the opposition to win a few gravy train seats to entice them to participate. Mnangagwa has just expended the scope of the perks by creating POLAD.

There really is no reason why Zanu PF would ever want to implement even one token democratic reforms when it is clear the bribes it is offering the opposition are doing the trick.
