"Thank God, we're up to the task!" boasted Chamisa - yet not even one reform delivered in 21 years N Garikai

The Greeks of the Golden Age of Greece gave humanity the Olympic Games, built the Acropolis, laid the foundation of human civilisation and, most important of all, gave mankind democracy - government of the people by the people and for the people.

There are many reasons why democracy has all but failed to take root in Zimbabwe and one of the reasons is are a pig-head society and there is nothing like being elevated into a position of power and authority to bring out the pig in pig-headed!.

“According to President Chamisa, leadership is a huge responsibility that requires humility and focus,” reported Zimeye and went on to quote Chamisa.

“THE POWER OF BUILDING NEW THINGS..SOMETHING FRESH!!

Every time I meet Zimbabweans I’m amazed at the love I see written all over their faces, the palpable joy and hope in their eyes.

Leadership is a huge responsibility.

Trust is a great burden. The hope, enthusiasm and expectation is a call to duty. Thank God, we’re equal to the task!”

Shocking!

The people of Zimbabwe have risked life and limb to elect Chamisa and his fellow MDC friends into power on the understanding the MDC, as the party name implied, would deliver the democratic changes the nation has been dying for, literally. After 21 years on the political stage, 5 of which in the GNU, MDC has failed to deliver not even one democratic change. Not one!

It is therefore shocking that Chamisa should have arrogance and chic to  boast of his competence and accomplishments. "Thank God, we're equal to the task!"

He even claims to have the gifts of "humility and focus!"

To be fair to Chamisa and his MDC friends they are not the only ones who are pig-headed. After 41 years of gross mismanagement and rampant corruption that has left the country in economic ruins, Mnangagwa and his Zanu PF cronies still believe they are the only ones are competent to rule Zimbabwe and hence the reason they have rigged elections, just to be absolutely certain a free, fair and credible election did not deliver regime change.

Chamisa and his MDC friends and Mnangagwa and his Zanu PF thugs have one thing in common; they are pig-headed demagogues who believe they are God Almighty’s gift to the nation. Compared to everyone else, they are infallible, “equal to the task”; no task is too hard for them. They are the “Misstra know it all!” Stevie Wonder sang of.

Pig-headed demagogues can never ever be democrats because the lack the humility to acknowledge they are fallible mortals and there is absolutely nothing special about them.

The very idea of giving the ordinary citizen a meaningful say in the governance of the country, in a free, fair and credible elections is simply unthinkable to the demagogue. Democracy, government of the people by the people for the people, is a curse as far as the demagogues are concerned because the people will elect someone not “equal to the task”!

Make no mistake about it, no one has ever said democracy is perfect. Free, fair and credible elections have resulted in the election of people not equal to the task. The election of former US President Donald Trump is one. The real beauty of a healthy and functioning democracy is that the American voters were able to put things right four years later.

Where there is no healthy and functioning democracy, such as Zimbabwe, you get a demagogue into power and you are well and truly stuck!

We in Zimbabwe are well and truly stuck with not only the Zanu PF buffoons but now the MDC village idiots to boot! Both Zanu PF and MDC have failed to deliver democracy and free, fair and credible elections because they are demagogues and not democrats.

  1. Humility is the one word one leaders have never learned because they really believe they are special and having an ignorant, adoring and blindly loyal followers has only made the leaders worse.

Here is a leader who has been on the political stage for 21 years promising change and yet has nothing to show for it. If his supporters had any common sense you think they would be getting restless and demanding the changes he promised. They have never known what those changes were much less how they were to come about. The man years spend explaining what the changes are have made no difference, nothing grows in the desert minds!

"Every time I meet Zimbabweans I’m amazed at the love I see written all over their faces, the palpable joy and hope in their eyes!" observed Chamisa. He is right!

The people love him even though he has accomplish nothing. Indeed, MDC leaders sold out during the GNU; it is no secret that Mugabe bribed them with the trappings of high office and for 5 years they had their snouts in the feeding trough and forgot about the reforms.

If you are still loved for selling out then it is easy to see why one will be tempted to be big-headed and think they are infallible!

Democracy has no chance of ever taking root in a nation where the people are so naive, thick and slow they understand nothing and are so easily impressed they are bowled over by a village idiot! Zimbabweans are not ready for democracy, far from it.

  2. Mnangagwa's remarks made at the launch of empowerment programmes for war veterans in Harare invited an immediate response from the MDC Alliance, which accused the Zanu-PF leader of preaching hatred.

"Let us all remain astute and vigilant, aware of the asymmetrical tactics of the opposition, in particular the MDC Alliance whose character resembles that of a terrorist organisation," Mnangagwa said.

"The MDC Alliance has nothing democratic about it. It is anti-constitution, anti-development and anti-people, but pro-violence and destruction.

"Let us remain vigilant and be wary of the MDC-A, which is anti-people and anti-democratic.”

Zanu PF is the instigator of most of the politically motivated violence in Zimbabwe, it is part and parcel of the party’s strategy to remain in power at all cost including blatant cheating and wanton violence. What makes this situation both annoying and tragic is that MDC did not only waste the opportunity to end Zanu PF’s dictatorial powers but are they ones giving the regime legitimacy by participating in flawed, illegal and very often violent elections.

It is nonsensical to complain of Zanu PF rigging elections, using violence, etc. when you get the get out of jail card you waste it!

“The police's reluctance to arrest Zanu-PF affiliated perpetrators of crime and human rights violations continued with one of the major cases being that of the assault of an MDC Alliance supporter by Zanu-PF activists at the Jairos Jiri Shopping Centre in Rimuka, Kadoma.

Zanu-PF activists assaulted the victim because he had allegedly commented about the country's economic meltdown. The victim, who suffered a damaged ear drum during the assault, made a report to the police, but no arrests were made. In addition to using harassment, intimidation and threats, suspected Zanu-PF activists have also employed more brute methods and this month, an MDC Alliance secretary in Mashonaland West, Tawanda Bvuma escaped an abduction attempt after two off-road vehicles blocked his car and he had to flee on foot.”

What is so annoying here is that we know the Police, like ZEC, the judiciary, etc., are in Zanu PF’s pockets and, without first implementing the reforms to free them from the party’s control, the Police will never carry out their primary task of keeping law and order without fear and favour. SADC leaders literally begged Morgan Tsvangirai and his MDC friends to postpone the elections until the reforms are implemented. Tsvangirai and company did not listen.

The EU, the Americans and many others have been calling for reforms to be implemented before elections but again and again MDC leaders have chosen to ignore the calls by participating in the elections regardless.

Zanu PF will continue to use violence as long as the party knows the opposition will participate giving it legitimacy regardless how flawed, illegal and violence the process gets.

It is the sell-out opposition opportunists who are making it easy for Zanu PF to rig the elections, use violence and all manner of dirty tricks to remain in power; they do not care the elections are rigged and people are murdered as long as they get the few gravy train seats Zanu PF gives away as bait.

  4. In William C Faure’s Shaka Zulu the white doctor remarked of how an “unscrupulous man can make himself into a God!” The remark was made following the scene when the journey to Shaka’s Kraal was interrupted to treat the young woman whom the locals thought was dead and were going to bury alive. The locals were in awe for what they thought was a miracle performed by the white man!

Well in Zimbabwe the locals are in awe over anything! If you are a political leaders you are clearly a God and you certainly get away with anything. MDC leaders have sold-out big time over reforms. Why so many Zimbabweans have failed to grasp the purpose of the 2008 to 2013 GNU, even now with the benefit of hindsight, goes to show just how little they understand. They have been calling for change for the last 21 years but have no clue what those changes are.

Nelson Chamisa is just a corrupt, incompetent and utterly useless individual who is smart enough to take advantage of the naive and gullible electorate. If the truth be told, most if not all the MDC leaders themselves have no clue what the reforms are which explains why they did not implement even one token reform in all their 21 years on the political stage.

So Nelson Chamisa sold out in failing to implement even one reform in 21 years and is not going to implement any even if he was to live to president of Zimbabwe. The irony is he is still able to boast of being “equal to the task” given him so far and in the future.

Until we have an educated electorate Zimbabwe will be blundering from pillar to post from one corrupt and tyrannical regime to the next. Right now MDC A have the nation giving the vote rigging Zanu PF regime legitimacy by participating in flawed election on the foolish believe the MDC A can win rigged elections!

Zanu PF's blundering incompetence in the handling of the corona virus pandemic has costed this nation many economic hardship, human suffering and many deaths. There is no doubt that the regime has not been testing as rigously as it should have done, for example. The official covid-19 cases and deaths are far less than the real figures!

It is a great pity that Zimbabweans have allowed the regime to get away with murder, not for the first time one might say!

“In the words of a German Lutheran Minister: Martin Niemöller: "First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out because I was not a socialist. Then they came for trade unions, and I did not speak out because I was not a trade unionist. Then they came for the Jews, I did not speak out because I was not a Jew. Then they came for me and there was no one left to speak for me."

Mnangagwa is accusing MDC A of being a terrorist organisation as a cover for terrorising the MDC A. Violence is just one of the tools in the Zanu PF tool box to be used to ensure the party win the coming 2023 elections.

The real annoying thing is that Nelson Chamisa knows that Zanu PF will use violence, among other dirty tricks, to win the 2023 elections. He and his MDC friends had the opportunity to implement the reforms and put an end to cheating and violence during the 2008 to 2013 GNU. Their failed to get even one reform implemented because Mugabe bribed them and with their snouts in the feeding trough, the forgot about the reforms.

Chamisa and company do not care that Zanu PF is rigging these elections and that many people are being harassed or worse. All they care about is winning the few gravy train seats Zanu PF is giving away as bait. They know that as the MDC A leaders, Zanu PF will not harm them, it s the ordinary Zimbabweans, especially those in the rural areas who will suffer and many have died in the past.

Zimbabweans must open their eyes and see for themselves the sheer futility of participating in these flawed elections to give Zanu PF legitimacy and MDC leaders the few gravy train seats! The idea of hoping to win rigged elections, especially after 41 years, is insane!

Zanu PF die-hard loyalists used to defend Mugabe and his Zanu PF thugs on the basis that they fought in the liberation war and all those so did not fight must shut up. Of course, this was a foolish argument because whether one fought in the liberation war or not they still have the same freedoms and rights as everyone else including the right to hold Mugabe and company to account.

It has taken 41 years to dispel the nonsense that Zanu PF thugs have the divine right to rule Zimbabwe by virtue they fought in the liberation war. But no soon has the ordinary man won back the right to hold Zanu PF to democratic account we find ourselves under yet another idiotic constraint; we cannot hold Chamisa and company to account because “Nelson are pafore front!” - whatever that means!

Zimbabweans, ordinary Zimbabweans, have risked life and limb to elect Chamisa and company on the understanding they will deliver democratic change. They sold-out and they are democratic accountable to the people, including me, Wilbert Mukori. Whether or not I am “pafore front!” is irrelevant.

Zanu PF has many, many ways of rigging elections including denying 3 million Zimbabweans in the diaspora the vote, reducing rural voters into medieval serfs beholden to the party, etc., etc. The suggestion that if young Zimbabweans voted MDC A will win rigged elections is just one of the nonsensical arguments to keep the naive and gullible hoping again hope.

Winning rigged elections is an oxymoron! Why are you not fighting for the more rational free, fair and credible elections?

My dear lady, you are the village idiot defending the indefensible, or as you put it “anotaura kwaasina kuswera!”

  8. Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, who is also the Minister of Health and Child Care, announced on Saturday that all public gatherings and sporting activities have been banned as part of new measures to contain the spread of Covid-19 following a new surge in new infections.

When VP Chiwenga took over as Minister of health in August 2020, he promised a first class health service. Zimbabwe’s health care has all but completely collapsed, nurses are still on slave wages and many have since left the country, we are still failing to test for the corona virus to keep track of the pandemic, 7 months after the first vaccine was approved and we have not even vaccinated 8% of the target 10 million. History will never forgive us for having such a buffoon as Chiwenga for Minister of health at a time like this!

  9. It's shocking that in Zimbabwe being an opposition party amounts to being a terrorist organisation.

"It is a direct threat to the pro-democratic movement and raises fears of a clampdown," he added.

Zanu PF has carte blanche powers to rig elections and the party has always made it clear that all options are always on the table. The party used the more subtle vote rigging measures in 2013 and 2018 and it was not necessary for it to resort to the more blunt tactics such as harassment, beating, rape and even murder.

The regime has failed to revive the economy and the party is feeling the pressure from the restless people who are now desperate for meaningful change and an end to their suffering. Zanu PF will use the subtle vote rigging tactics of the past such as denying Zimbabweans in the diaspora the vote, make it near impossible for many in the country to register and then to vote, etc. This is clearly not enough and so the party is resorting to violence. Calling MDC A a terrorist organisation will prime its thugs to attack.

We should not forget MDC A leaders are as much to blame for the situation because:

they failed to implement the reforms taking away Zanu PF’s carte blanche powers when they had the chance to do so

Chamisa et al were warned by SADC and many others beside not to participate in elections without first implementing the reforms and they continue to pay no heed. Chamisa and company are after the few gravy train seats Zanu PF is offering as bait and they do not care that the elections are rigged and how many innocent Zimbabweans are murdered by the regime in the process!

What are you wittering about, MDC leaders have always supported Zanu PF thugs and helped them stay in power. Morgan Tsvangirai supported and welcomed the November 2017 military coup. He left his hospital bed in a hurry, confident he would be invited to join Mnangagwa in a new GNU.

Regardless of all the eminent politically motivated violence against ordinary Zimbabweans MDC A leaders are hell-bend on participating in the 2023 elections to win the few gravy train seats on offer. All MDC leaders care about is power and so please stop crying these crocodile tears!

I support mdc alliance just like other 2.6m citizens bcoz the leader has brains i did not look at his tribe like what your fathers did in 1980 when they chose mediocrity and laid the cursing foundation for this nation ..”

If Chamisa and his fellow MDC leaders have brains as you say then why have they failed to deliver even one democratic change is 21 years, 5 of which were in the GNU?

Chamisa insisted in participating in the 2018 elections with no reforms in place to stop Zanu PF rigging. “MDC A has stringent measures to stop Zanu PF rigging the elections!” he boasted. He has been complaining that Zanu PF stole the elections but no one with a working brain listened to him because they all remember his boasting about stopping the rigging.

By participating MDC A gave the vote rigging Zanu PF legitimacy.

Right now Chamisa and company, the village idiots, are gearing to participate in the 2023 elections with not even one token reforms implemented. He is claiming that #OneMillionVote and #CitizensConvergenceForChange are MDC A’s “stringent measures” that will stop Zanu PF rigging in 2023. All nonsense of course but his brain dead followers believe everything MDC A leaders tell them!

The worst curse for Zimbabwe is that we have more than our fair share of village idiots. After 41 years of rigged elections they continue participating in flawed and illegal elections expecting to win rigged elections! They know Zanu PF has carte blanche powers to rig the elections; it is Heads Zanu PF wins and Tail MDC A lose! And the village idiots are agog with excitement and continue to place their bets!

  11. THE National Peace and Reconciliation Commission (NPRC) yesterday appointed former MDC-T vice-president Obert Gutu as its spokesperson and chairperson for its complaints handling, investigations and legal services thematic committee for Harare province.

In a statement yesterday, the NPRC said this was in accordance with the NPRC Act of 2018, which allows it to appoint chairpersons of thematic committees and provincial oversight persons.

Obert Gutu was the MDC-T deputy Minister of Justice and Parliamentary Affairs and would have been one of the few MDC leaders one expected to know the process of effecting democratic reforms during the GNU. He, together with others such as Tendai Biti, David Coltart, Welshman Ncube, etc. did not submit even one reform proposal because once in power they all forgot about the reforms.

The MDC folly of failing to implement the reforms was driven home to the leaders in the 2013 elections when Zanu PF rigged the elections to retain its dominance. MDC leaders had no choice but to settle for the subordinate role of opposition.

Obert Gutu tried to keep his seat in the MDC bigwigs but failed. And has since decided to go back to supporting Zanu PF and end the farcical postering of other MDC leaders like Tendai Biti and Nelson Chamisa who enjoy the subordinate opposition role and make a big song and dance of criticising Zanu PF for the sake of pleasing the naive and gullible electorate. Meanwhile by going all out to support Zanu PF, Obert Gutu is now enjoying the fruit of selling out.

  12. High Court justices Amy Tsanga and Slyvia Chirawu-Mugomba however said the issue of contempt did not arise in the matter of Malaba returning to work as an appeal suspended the initial judgment.

Malaba argued that he resumed duties on the basis that the noting of an appeal suspends an order regardless of who has filed that appeal.

One got the feeing this whole case was a publicity stunt!

The very fact that Zanu PF was able to rig the 2013 elections and all the other elections since is proof the constitution in weak. It is laughable that some people have taken up the Malaba case as proof of their resolve to defend the constitution. Of course, it is an exercise in futility to defend something that is so weak and feeble it will make no difference.

Kika has had his day in court now he can shut up and let the nation focus on the important business of making sure Zanu PF does not get away with another rigged elections.

PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government failed to transparently disburse and account for US$4.5 million in donations, with only less than 1% of the funds being used for their intended purpose while people died in the midst of the devastating Cyclone Idai in 2019, an official audit has revealed.

    CHIPA GONDITII

This happened at thousands of ordinary and poor people’s greatest hour of need.

South Africa delivered more than 5 000 tonnes of maize. Pandor handed over the consignment to victims of Cyclone Idai. She said the outbreak of the Covid-19 delayed the delivery, which will now to be completed by September.

South Africa, through the African Renaissance and International Cooperation Fund, pledged R50 million in humanitarian support. The assistance consists 450 000 bags of 12,5kg maize meal earmarked for distribution to victims of the cyclone.

However, President Cyril Ramaphosa’s government officials told The NewHawks they feared the donations could be stolen, worries similarly shared by many Zimbabweans.

People’s worst fears have now been confirmed by a special audit report by Auditor-General Mildred Chiri on the Disaster Preparedness and Distribution of Cyclone Idai Donations in Manicaland and Masvingo Provinces tabled in parliament recently.

This is really shocking! How have we allowed things to get this bad is what I cannot get my head round! No wonder the nation is in deep, deep trouble. We clearly do not care that we are badly governed and it shows.

If we do not care that US$ 4.5 billion in donations are looted and/or wasted and only a misery 1% is used properly then we definitely deserve to suffer! And we are suffering alright. The corona virus pandemic has a long way to go yet, thanks to the country collapsed health care services!

  14. A Mwonzora and Mnangagwa GNU is out of the question because it will not implement any meaningful democratic reforms and so it is pointless.

On the other hand going ahead with the elections with no reforms in place is a complete waste of time because Zanu PF will rig the elections just as they have done in the past. No one has given any convincing evidence to show how this so call #CitizensConvergenceForChange has done anything to stop Zanu PF rigging the election.

Indeed the rigging is already under way; Zanu PF has denied the 3 million Zimbabweans in the diaspora the vote once again, for example. #CitizensConvergenceForChange has done nothing to stop that!

The best option right now is for Zimbabweans to make it clear these 2023 elections with no reforms in place are nothing but a farce. By participating in the elections Zimbabweans will only give legitimacy to the vote rigging Zanu PF.

After 41 years of rigged elections the one lesson we should have learned by now is that it is sheer folly to try to win rigged elections especially given Zanu PF's vote rigging knows no limit! It is insane to keep doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different result.

  15. In the long run, nations get the government they deserve and in Zimbabwe we certain deserve this corrupt, incompetent and tyrannical Zanu PF dictatorship complete with the equally incompetent and corrupt MDC opposition.

We keep participating in flawed elections under the forlorn hope of winning rigged elections even after 41 years of rigged elections. Tsvangirai and company had many golden chances to implement the reforms to stop the vote rigging and wasted them all. SADC leaders begged, literally, MDC not to participate in the elections without reforms but the warning was ignored.

By participating in these flawed and illegal elections we are giving the vote rigging Zanu PF legitimacy. It is insane to keep doing this after 41 years of rigged elections!

  16. THE opposition MDC-T has been plunged into chaos following a "secret" meeting between its leader Douglas Mwonzora and President Emmerson Mnangagwa, with some officials saying they were not comfortable with their leader's close proximity to the Zanu-PF leaders.

Mwonzora secretly met Mnangagwa at State House last week, and claimed that they were merely setting the tone for dialogue ahead of the 2023 harmonised elections.

The meeting was also attended by Mnangagwa's deputy, Constantino Chiwenga, while Mwonzora did not take any senior party officials with him.

Mnangagwa and Mwonzora can meet as often as they wish, every day if they wish; but what they must know is that they cannot call off the 2023 elections in favour of a GNU. It is not for Zanu PF, as the incumbent government, to fail to organise free, fair and credible elections and then impose a GNU.

If the 2023 elections are condemned, signs are this is a given since not even token reforms were implemented; then a new GNU will be necessary. However neither Zanu PF nor MDC can be involved in the new GNU. The two parties failed to implement even one reform during the first 2008 to 2013 GNU, it is nonsense to expect them to do any better.

Zanu PF has rigged these elections already and there is absolutely no point in participating in elections only to give the vote rigging Zanu PF legitimacy.

  17. GOVERNMENT yesterday revealed that 23% of children in the country were out of school due to economic challenges.

This was said by Information minister Monica Mutsvangwa during a post-Cabinet media briefing in Harare where she said the figures were arrived at after a research done by the Zimbabwe Vulnerability Assessment Committee led by the Food and Nutrition Council conducted in May 2021.

"The research conducted revealed that financial constraints, age and adolescence pregnancy were some of the notable reasons why about 23% of the children were not in school," Mutsvangwa said.

"As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the country has witnessed increased support from Treasury and, a reduction of assistance from the development partners. At least 54% of the households received support from government, with development partners complementing these efforts by supporting 25% of the households," she said.

Mutsvangwa claimed that average household monthly support for the vulnerable increased from US$33 in 2020 to US$75 in 2021.

This is coming from a regime that keeps wittering about Zimbabwe being on target to achieve upper middle income status by 2030, vision 2030. 23% schools drop out is yet another piece of evidence to show the country is going in the wrong direction. The only reason why the regime keeps insisting the country is on the recovery path is because the regime has no clue what is going on and, worse still, it is deliberately lying and has no respect for the truth or the tragic consequences.

Zanu PF does not care that Zimbabwe’s education service has all but collapsed or the millions of children whose future is grime because they were denied a decent education.
