Zimbabwe's buffoons plotting yet another coup to avoid ICC prosecution - after 40 years, enough is enough N Garikai

“The country’s military leaders have reportedly agreed in private, to invite former Zanu PF political commissar and ex-local government minister, Saviour Kasukuwere, to return back home from South Africa, with the view of laying the ground for his eventual takeover as Zimbabwe president,” reported Spotlight Zimbabwe.

“The disclosures come at a time when, President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s regime, is jittery and perturbed about rumours of an imminent coup d’état, as the Zanu PF leader all but shut down three major cities in panic this week without notice, to curb potential civil unrest.

“Defence sources said, “some very senior” commanders are concerned about the possibility of the ICC hauling them to The Hague, to answer charges of crimes against humanity and army killings of civilians, in the last two decades through war-like operations such as Operation Hakudzokwi, and the recent August 2018 and January 2019 army killings and shooting of civilians, for protests against presidential poll theft and fuel hikes respectively.”

This story only shows that it is not only Mnangagwa who is jittery and confused, his political opponents too are just as jittery and confused. The same military buffoons were behind the November 2017 military coup and solidly behind Mnangagwa whom they had no doubt would revive the Zimbabwe economy and everyone would live happily ever after.

Well the happily ever after has turned into a nightmare as the economy has sunk even deeper into the abyss and Mnangagwa has turned out to be just another clueless tyrant blundering from pillar to post.

“Zimbabwe is home,” Kasukuwere told Spotlight Zimbabwe. “I will be going back home once the Covid-19 situation has stabilized and security issues addressed. We are all duty bound to work and uplift our country, which is going through unprecedented pain at this moment.”

The military buffoons are now turning to Kasukuwere; just another Zanu PF ruthless tyrant with no more brain than a village idiot!

No one of any substance is going to tolerate another military coup in Zimbabwe. The world is turning the screw on this Zanu PF regime and if there is another coup, the screws will be turned so tight the regime will be crashed to death in a matter of weeks!

The only thing to save Zimbabwe from sinking even deeper into the abyss is for the country to implement the democratic reforms and hold free, fair and credible elections. Like it or not it is time that the Zanu PF buffoon accept that the dictatorship has been a total failure and change, long overdue, must now happen and will happen.

Zanu PF has held this nation to ransom for the last 40 years with tragic, tragic, economic, political and humanitarian consequences. Enough is enough!

  1. In corona virus Zimbabwe, just like the rest of the world, is facing the greatest challenge of our generation. Whilst other nations are out there dealing with the pandemic challenges we are bogged down in these endless internal party factional wars and inter-party spats arising from the failure to hold free, fair and credible elections. Meanwhile the corona virus is spreading far and wide, taking full advantage of the Zanu PF regime's blundering incompetence.

  2. MORE Zimbabweans are testing positive to Covid-19 with 11 localised and 5 SA returnees cases confirmed Friday bringing the total to 479.

On Thursday, 20 local residents tested positive. In the past, it was mostly returning citizens who were turning positive after Covid-19 testing.

In April, government promised to ramp up the number of testing to 1 000 per day in line with WHO’s call to “Test! TEST! TEST!” And yet here we are three months later the regime has failed to live up to its promise with only 61 928 tests done to date!

Even with overwhelming evidence from its own test that the virus is spreading given the 62 cases reported on 18 June the regime still continues to drag its feet on test. Only 515 tests were carried out after the 62 reported cases!

For Zimbabwe it is not a matter of prevention is better than cure; the country is ill equipment to deal with even a few corona virus cases, prevention is the only option. We should be pouring all the little resources we have is testing and stop the virus spreading because we know anyone who is infected is on their own!

Why the hell are we not carrying more tests?

Mark my words, Zanu PF’s blundering incompetence in handling the corona virus pandemic is making the situation even worse than ever!

  3. "It is our contention, Mr. Speaker, that the Minister of Finance owes Zimbabweans an apology that he should not introduce dollarisation through the back; that he should repeal Statutory Instrument 33 and Statutory Instrument 142 and the Finance Act," said the former Finance Minister who is also MDC Alliance co-vice president.

"The minister has failed in absolute terms and must resign. We are gravely concerned about the continuous shifting of our Monetary Policy. We are concerned particularly about the constant changes to our Monetary Policy,"

Biti said back in 2009, the country introduced a basket of multiple currencies.

To ask Ncube to resign because he introduced the US$ “through the back door” when he, Biti, agreed with its introduction in 2008 through the front door is frivolous, to say the least.

If Minister Mthuli Ncube is going to booted out of office, then it must be over his failure to stamp out corruption. “Corruption is killing us!” ranted Tendai Biti’s MDC A colleague, Fadzai Mahere, only the other day.

Tendai Biti will not dare mention Ncube’s failure to stamp out corruption because he too did not touch the “scared cow”! He complained that he was not receiving any revenue from the diamond mining but never followed that up. Even when MDC leaders, Morgan Tsvangirai, visited the Marange diamond operations and gave his thumbs up, Biti did not dare contradict his leader. A few weeks later Tsvangirai was on a Sea Cruise Ship having a great time, his reward for turning a blind eye to the wholesale looting in Marange!

Tendai Biti has never regretted that the 2008 to 2013 GNU failed in its primary task of implementing the democratic reforms designed to end the Zanu PF dictatorship. All he cared about was the ministerial limo, the generous salary and allowance and most important of all the prestige of being Zimbabwe’s Minister of Finance!

Biti and Nelson Chamisa have been clamouring for the formation of a new power sharing arrangement with Mnangagwa ever since the rigged July 2018 elections. They know the arrangement will never implement even one meaningful democratic reform, just as the 2008 GNU failed; they don’t care about that. All they are hungry for is their old cabinet posts complete with the ministerial limo, etc.

The most painful thing Tendai Biti has ever had to endure is seeing Professor Mthuli Ncube as Minister of Finance; it hurts him so much to he do anything to force him out of office! The people of Zimbabwe are after real democratic change and not some token change to gratify a sell-out like Biti!

  4. FULL TEXT- OBEDIAH MOYO CHARGES

What a circus! Is it any wonder many international, national and individual donors have scaled back their dealing with Zimbabwe - they know their donation will one way or the other end up in the ruling elite's fat bank accounts!

  5. I for one am disappointed by the indifference of the Zimbabwe intelligentsia! Ever since Zanu PF came into power the regime has had no problem recruiting the country's educated professionals from the likes of the late Vice Chancellor Walter Kamba to the upstarts Professor Mthuli Ncube and Kirsty Coventry. They all knew they were being recruited for the purpose of sprucing up the Zanu PF regime's tarnished image and they have all done Mugabe or Mnangagwa's dirty bidding with gusto!

Of course, they knew and understand that Zanu PF was a corrupt, incompetent, vote rigging and murderous regime but standing by the dictator's side they forgot all that, he was holier than the Saint!

It is bad enough for a few individuals to sell-out but in Zimbabwe, the intelligentsia have sold-out in droves. For 40 years now Zanu PF has systematically destroyed the country’s once promising economy and the regime has ridden roughshod over the people denying them their freedoms and basic human rights including the right to free and fair elections and even the right to life. The silence from the intelligentsia has been deafening!

The buffoons stage the November 2017 coup confident there will be no objections from the intelligentsia. Indeed, even when Justice George Chiweshe ruled that the coup was “justified, legal and constitutional” there was not a mouse squeak to express surprise. If the country’s professionals and leaders saw nothing wrong with the dictatorship, the coup, etc. it is hard to expect the rural peasants to object. No wonder the buffoons are plotting yet another coup, they know no one in the country will ever take them to task!

  6. If MDC leaders had implemented the democratic reforms Zimbabwe will not be stuck in this political and economic hell-hole still.

You, Senhor Biti, have never acknowledged that you sold-out the nation by failing to implement the reforms, have never apologised much less resigned from public office.

Indeed, you and your fellow opposition dimwits are the ones giving this vote rigging Zanu PF regime legitimacy by participating in flawed and illegal elections. You were so desperate to get back into parliament not even the knowledge that ZEC had failed to produce something as basic as a verified voters' roll could stop you contesting the July 2018 elections.

You chose to contest in Harare East, an urban constituency, because you knew Zanu PF would be giving away a few seats as bait, urban seats mostly. You don't care that Zanu PF frog matched the rural voters to win its 2/3 majority!

Having secured your MP seat you have been out fishing for a cabinet post. You have been campaigning for a new GNU with Zanu PF and you consider Professor Mthuli Ncube a usurper who has stolen your Minister of Finance post! As the country's economic meltdown got worse your Cheshire-cat smile has grown wider. Whilst the nation is fighting for meaningful democratic change all you want is to be a cabinet minister and will, once again, sell-out the nation for the ministerial limo!

Zimbabwe has suffered enough because of your insatiable greed and selfishness! This whole Zanu PF regime is illegitimate and must resign; not just one minister to create room for yourself!

  7. • At least 726 suspected cases of Gastrointestinal Disease have been seen and evaluated at Luveve Clinic this week and at least 37 seen at their homes as at 18th June 2020 at 0800hrs.

    • At least 15 were transferred to Mpilo Central Hospital from Luveve Area (including the clinic) on the 16th June with the hospital reporting at least 59 people being admitted and 5 having died (4 children and 1 adult) as of 16 June 2020.

    • Investigations on community deaths ongoing, with at least 3 having been reported.

The tragedy with Zimbabwe is we have known about the problem of bad governance for the last 40 years, the root cause of all the country’s political paralysis and economic mess, and have done very little about it and allowed it to grow and destroyed everything. And now the problems are coming thick and fast and we are at a complete lose what to do!

  8. Said Mliswa, "Grace Mugabe is still seating on about 15 farms but we are still going after Robert Zhuwao, a guy who is not just sick but owns a single farm. The government policy is one man one farm, so why are we avoiding Grace? What are we scared of instead of just implementing the policy?"

The whole world knows that Zimbabwe used to be the breadbasket of the region and is now a basket case of a Banana Republic. The ruling elite not only have the farms but are being paid US$3 billion last year alone for producing nothing! Up to 8 million ordinary Zimbabweans are facing starvation and the country of begging US$800 million to feed them. The ruling elite will be profit political from the aid by making sure it is distributed by party operatives along party lines.

Why Zimbabweans, ourselves, have done nothing all these last 40 years to stop this madness is a complete mystery. As for the donors, most have walk out on Zimbabwe; they are sick and tired of all the chaos and looting!

  9. This was announced by the Ministry of Health and Child Care in a statement which also observed that the total number of known coronavirus cases in the country rose to 486 after seven cases were recorded.

The Ministry reported that of all the new cases, six are returnees from South Africa while one case was from Portugal.

One of the deceased is a woman from the Midlands Province who was tested for coronavirus when she was already dead while the second one was a case from Bulawayo Province who had tested positive for the virus on the 17th of June.

Once again, it is very disappointing to note that Zimbabwe has done nothing to increase the number of tests carried out. Only 469 tests were carried this time, far short of the 1 000 per day promised back in April when total number of confirmed cases was 40 and the highest number of new cases per day was 8. On 18th May Zimbabwe had 62 new cases, 20 of them in the local community, taking the total to 463. The number of tests carried out has not increased in line with the increasing number of positive cases!

Zimbabwe is not testing for covid-19 as aggressively as it should, especially among the local community as contrast to quarantine centres hosting the returnees. There is no doubt that covid-19 is spreading far and wide among the local community but, without testing, we do not know the extend of the spread. In this case ignorance is only helping the virus spread and therefore it is deadly.

  10. South Africa now has 83,890 confirmed coronavirus cases, higher than the total number of cases recorded in China since the outbreak of the pandemic.

Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize announced yesterday that South Africa's confirmed COVID-19 cases increased by 3,478 over the last day.

This means South Africa has overtaken China in COVID-19 infections which has 83,325 confirmed coronavirus cases.

In South Africa, the rapid growth of COVID-19 infections and deaths have only started and is expected to follow a similar pattern to China and other areas in the world.

Apart from the increase in cases, Mkhize has also announced 63 new Covid-19 related deaths in South Africa, taking the total deaths to 1,737.

If Zimbabwe was tasting as aggressively as SA then our covid-19 cases and deaths will be ¼ that of SA i.e. 21 945 and 434 (not 486 and 6) given our population is ¼ that of SA. So, Zimbabwe’s official figures are 50 to 80 times below what they should be.

The corona virus infections have been rising steadily in both Zimbabwe and SA this last month and the figures are expected to peak in the next month and a half to two months. The covid-19 related deaths will also soar and it will become increasingly difficult for Zimbabwe to falsify the death figures.

  11. Countries like South Korea and New Zealand have managed to contain the corona virus and kept the infection and deaths numbers low. Countries like Zimbabwe have failed to contain the virus and it has spread far and wide and yet they too want to claim the accolades for having low infection and death numbers by falsifying the figures. The penalty of denying the true infection rate is that the nation has a false sense of security which has only helped to accelerate the spread of the virus.
Zimbabwe will have a hell lot more people infected and killed by covid-19 than it would otherwise if the country had been truthful and addressed the problem head-on. Zanu PF has always been a secretive regime and, no doubt, hundreds of thousands will die of covid-19 but officially the country will have a few hundred deaths and Mnangagwa will boast of the regime’s achievement in containing corona virus.
Of course, it is very frustrating that Zanu PF has not only failed to contain corona virus and the nation should be holding the regime to account. Instead the regime is punishing the people, the victims of its blundering incompetence, by ignoring their suffering and deaths.
