"Have passion to repair stadia" insists Coventry - butterfly metamorphosed into caterpillar c/w ED regalia and scarf N Garikai

Power corrupts and absolute power - it does not get any more absolute than in Zimbabwe where those in power are accountable to no one and so have done as they pleased for 40 years and counting - corrupts absolutely.

Before her appointment as Minister of Youth, Sport and Culture in September 2018, Kirsty Coventry was a decent person, one of us ordinary Zimbabweans. Asked, she would have castigated the Zanu PF as a party of corrupt, incompetent, vote rigging and murderous thugs; without a moment’s hesitation. She has since changed.

The day she receive her invitation to join the Zanu PF cabinet, received the keys of the ministerial limo, she metamorphosed from the graceful butterfly into the ugly eat-everything caterpillar. A brush against her bristling hairs will give you a rash!

Kirsty Coventry, like Professor Mthuli Ncube, were invited into the Mnangagwa cabinet of corrupt and murderous thugs to give it a human and intellectual face. Coventry and Ncube knew that and, just to prove they understood their principle role of sprucing up Zanu PF’s image, they have, in all they have done if not in words too, endorsed the July 2018 elections as having been free, fair and credible.

After a year and half on the Zanu PF gravy train, hobnobbing with the Zanu PF thugs, the transformation of Kirsty Coventry is complete; she now thinks and talks nonsense just like any other seasoned Zanu PF thug!

“Local government (ministry) and municipalities own and operate our sports facilities and it has been up to that federation to organise the event. The Ministry of Sport, despite it being sport, has had no role to play,” said Minister Coventry.

“Good news: It has finally been agreed that the ownership and operations of the National Sports Stadium in Zimbabwe will now be transferred to the Ministry of Youth, Sport, Art and Recreation. We have the experience and passion to now use this opportunity for Zimbabwe to become a sporting powerhouse.”

What a truck load of bull!

  1. Is she telling us that she did not know the sorry state of decay and rot of National Stadium - the same can be said of everything else including hospitals, schools, roads, railway, you name - until now!

  1. The country is broke, those refurbishing the stadium will want to be paid in money and not your royal highness’ “experience and passion!”

  1. Zimbabwe is facing an serious economic meltdown; unemployment has soared to 90% and basic services like education and health have all but collapsed. 34% of our people now live in extreme poverty, they cannot afford one decent meal a day much less other basic necessities such as shelter and health care. Whatever money the country has it must be used to revive the economy, the health care service, etc. before one dollar is spend on such things as sporting stadium.

  1. The threat of coronavirus outbreak is hanging over the nation’s head like an ominous monster storm, your continued wittering about the stadium is an annoying  distraction. Just because you and your fellow ruling elite can afford health care service outside the country does not meaning we must abandon the millions out there who have no choice but used the non-existent local service.

  1. Zimbabwe is a pariah state ruled by corrupt, incompetent, vote rigging and murderous tyrants and you are nothing more than pompous mascot paid, and paid well, to pretend Zimbabwe is a healthy and functioning democracy. Zimbabwe’s economic recovery and, indeed, the country’s very survival depends of dismantling the dictatorship which you are propping up. Madam, you need to get off your high horse and smell the coffee!

  1. Zimbabwe had the golden opportunity to end the Zanu PF dictatorship peacefully during the 2008 to 2013 GNU. Sadly Morgan Tsvangirai and his corrupt and incompetent cronies took their eyes off the ball and sold-out. Mugabe bribed them with the trappings of high office and they completely forgot about the reforms. And we are now paying dearly for it.

  2. People like Minister Coventry and Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube have sold-out big time. Of course they know that Mnangagwa and his Zanu PF thugs rigged the July 2018 elections but forgot and forgave the vote rigging and murderous thugs the minute Mnangagwa dangled the keys of the ministerial limo in their face. It lit up like a firefly’s bottom!

Emmerson Mnangagwa, just like Robert Mugabe before him, has never had any problem recruiting individuals whom, until that moment, people held in high regard just to spruce up their regime’s image. Mnangagwa has completely ignored Professor Ncube’s advice - there is no way the minister would have allowed the rampant corrupt to continue, for example.

As for Minister Coventry, government was spending as much on her ministerial salary and perks than on everything else. She was an Olympic swimming medalist but not much less. She does not have the common sense to know the country is broke and getting the National Stadium to acceptable standards will take a lot more than her “experience and passion”!

Even if the money was raised, it will be insane to spend it on bucket seats for the stadium when ever a referral hospital like Parerenyatwa has no painkillers.

Our fight for free, fair and credible elections and good governance has been a long and draw out slog made that much harder by people like Professor Ncube and Coventry who have sold-out on the commonwealth cause for thirty pieces of silver.

Zanu PF is a party of corrupt, incompetent, vote rigging murderous thugs - that is hard-nosed sell-outs willing to rid roughshod over the people freedoms and rights including the right to free and fair elections and even the right to life. The opposition too is full of corrupt and incompetent village idiots - sell-out mongoose foolish enough to the nation and their own future for a moment in the sun.

Zimbabwe has more than its fair share of sell-out and the reason the country is in this mess and stuck in the mess! We must stop treating sell-outs like Coventry and Professor Ncube as anything else other than what they are - sell-outs!

  3. Corruption is rampant in Zimbabwe and every few weeks there is a story on the subject. In 2016, Robert Mugabe himself admitted the country was being “swindled out of US$ 15 billion in lost diamond revenue”. He never arrested even one swindler!

When Mnangagwa took over from Mugabe following the November 2017 coup he vowed there will “zero tolerance on corruption!” He too is yet to arrest even one diamond swindler. “Corruption is deep rooted” he said. We all know exactly what he meant, top Zanu PF officials including himself are the Godfathers of corruption. He is not going to up root himself and his cronies. If anyone doubted that, Tapfuma is saying it all.

Tapfuma named Youth deputy minister Tinoda Machakaire, who runs TinMac, a logistics company, as one of the many government and party officials who abused the scheme.

The facility was also used to buy campaign vehicles for Zanu-PF's Vongai Mupereri in Mbizo constituency.

Tapfuma, who is facing a criminal abuse of office charge for allegedly abusing a government facility to import five personal vehicles, was testifying in court yesterday where he accused several Zanu-PF and government officials of using the facility for their personal projects.

He said some of the projects were meant to be "a good gesture to my principal, the President, Emmerson Mnangagwa".

"Everyone in government and Zanu-PF has been doing it," Tapfuma said.

Only hardcore Zanu PF with no sense of decorum much less shame will continue to claim sanctions and not corruption is the root cause of the country’s economic problems. They have always treated the ordinary people with contempt, as dimwit who do not know they are being robbed blind!

  4. @ Dr Mavaza

You are a Zanu PF apologist with no respect for the truth, facts and logic and you are at it again.

“After several false reports which suggest that Zimbabwe is not taking the CoronaVirus seriously it has emerged that Zimbabwe is one of the African countries which has taken this virus most seriously,” you claim. “Zimbabwe has a lot of Chinese visitors and this made Zimbabwe more vigilant when it comes to the virus. There are compulsory checks at every entry point into the country.”

It is a fact that Zimbabwe does not have the capability to test for coronavirus much less personnel and facilities to handle a coronavirus patient. Zimbabwe is having to send samples to SA for testing. And the country is reportedly waiting for Chinese experts to build facilities to handle coronavirus patient. Is that what one would expect for a country treating the virus as a serious health threat?

“Zimbabwe vehemently denied Harare was covering up the extent of the coronavirus outbreak. Zimbabwe has put the police in full string to locate a patient who escaped from quarantine. This shows that the nation is taking this virus as seriously as it deserves,” you argue.

Even you must see this for what it is - gross incompetence and negligence on all involved here. Why was someone suspected of carrying a highly contagious disease allowed to escape from quarantine?

Have the authorities rounded up all those the individual came in contact with from the minute he escape from the quarantine and placed them all in quarantine?

Are all those involved is dealing with suspected coronavirus patients well protected to ensure they are not putting their own lives in danger?
One of the measures to help stop the spread of coronavirus is wash one’s hands throughly with soap and clean running water. Even big referral hospitals like Parerenyatwa and Mpilo Hospitals are know to have no soap much less clean running water. How can anyone then claim that Zimbabwe is taking the threat of coronavirus with the seriousness the matter demands.

It is a great shame that even on a serious matter threatening the lives of so many fellow Zimbabweans you are choosing to falsely claim the country is ready to deal with coronavirus, just to please your Zanu PF masters! Shame on you, Dr Mavaza, the country would have been better off if sell-outs like you had never been born!
