“Coronavirus is the work of God punishing countries that imposed sanctions on us,” said Zimbabwe’s Minister of Defence, Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri.
“They’re now keeping indoors. Their economies are screaming, just like they did to ours. (Donald) Trump should know that he is not God.”
She was addressing Zimbabwe National Liberation War Collaborators Association (ZILWACO), a notoriously naive, gullible and partisan segment of society. She was cheered to the rafters!
This is just the usual nonsense from the usual corrupt and incompetent village idiots to the naive and gullible who are foolish enough to think the nonsense manna from heaven. The coronavirus started in China and other country where it has left its cruel mark; these country have never imposed sanctions on Zimbabwe.
Zimbabwe’s economy is already in total meltdown as a result of 40 years of gross mismanagement, rampant corruption and rank lawlessness that has earned the nation the pariah state label. A feeble economy means Zimbabwe will not have the resources to fight the economic disruption and the health challenges a coronavirus outbreak will bring.
It is almost certain that there will be coronavirus outbreak in Zimbabwe and the country is done nothing to prepare itself to deal with the outbreak. Nothing!
Indeed, the country’s health care service will be completely overwhelmed with the first cases because the service has all but collapsed after decades of being starved of funds. The country does not have doctors, nurses, medicine, equipment and cannot even provide something as basic as clean running water!
If there should be coronavirus outbreak in Zimbabwe then it will leave one of the broadest and deepest trail of death and economic destruction per capita than in any other third world country because Zimbabwe’s health care service is one of the weakest in the world. And, to add insult to injury, the Zanu PF government’s laissez-faire approach to the coronavirus, even now with the virus declared an pandemic, means the country still complacent and hopeless ill prepared.
Still, with unemployment a nauseating 90% and millions living in abject poverty, the virus outbreak will only make our suffering and deaths even worse, God must be punishing this nation for our collective laissez-faire to life. For we having allowed Zanu PF thugs to rid roughshod over us, denying the people their freedoms, human rights and dignity including the right to free, fair and credible elections and even the right to life.
There is no deny that in the last 40 years there have been many golden opportunities to end the Zanu PF dictatorship. God has indeed opened the window and even provided the get out of jail cards. We have failed to apply ourselves and thus wasted all the opportunities.
Nations get the government they deserve. We in Zimbabwe, certainly deserve this corrupt, incompetent, vote rigging and murderous Zanu PF dictatorship complete with its coterie of corrupt, incompetent and utterly useless opposition parties, all 130 of them.
“Coronavirus is God punishing the West for imposing the sanctions us!” Well crippling economic meltdown must be God punishing Zimbabwe for being so naive and gullible as to believe Zanu PF lies and propaganda all these last 40 years. And the punishment is about to get a hell lot worse if there is coronavirus outbreak - signs are it is already spreading! What blasphemy, propaganda and lie will you tell the nation then, Minister of Defence!
Britain's Defence minister Earl Howe told the House of Lords last week that London would not soften it stance against Mnangagwa's government until its implements genuine political and economic reforms.

"However, we have to face the reality that no package of external support will deliver for the Zimbabwean people without fundamental reforms, as he rightly says.
"Therefore, the onus must remain on the government of that country to demonstrate true commitment to change.
The people of Zimbabwe have paid dearly in lost opportunity, looted treasure and human suffering and death as a result of the country’s failure to remove this corrupt, incompetent and tyrannical Zanu PF dictatorship from power all these last 40 years. The nation had many golden opportunities to end the dictatorship, the best coming during the 2008 to 2013 GNU. Sadly, we wasted them all!
The human tragedy is about to soar into even new nauseating heights as the coronavirus outbreak starts to spread in Africa. Zimbabwe have one of the weakest health care service on the continent, the country’s ruling elite have neglected the local service because they use services outside the country; it will not cope.
The need for meaningful democratic change in Zimbabwe is now a matter of life and death!
In an interview with The Sunday Mail, Finance and Economic Development Minister Professor Mthuli Ncube said Zimbabwe's finances were on a sound footing and there were adequate reserves to deal with the coronavirus threat.
ReplyDelete"The point that I need to make is that Government is in a cash positive situation. I can say with confidence that the fiscus is well run. We are a solvent Government and currently we have a surplus of $3,2 billion in our accounts. We are going to spend $3,2 billion on key programmes such as the health sector. We need to fight the impact of the coronavirus and we need to put some money into that," he said.
Asked how much would be allocated from the fund to fight Covid-19, Prof Ncube said authorities were still to decide the amounts.
"We need to decide on that. Obviously it's not me alone who has a say. We have to make an assessment with other colleagues in Government and obviously the Ministry of Health has to be involved," he said.
Prof Ncube said outside of the fight against coronavirus, Treasury will also spend the surplus on other undertakings to cushion the public from the harsh economic environment.
Sectors identified for social protection include health, education as well as the welfare of civil servants.
Nothing that Minister Mthuli Ncube says and does is to be taking at face value. The $3.2 billion surplus he is taking about is money printed by the regime, the very activity that is fuelling the country’s high inflation. Since most of what the country needs is imported the billions of local paper money will be of little value.
“We are all aware that there have been reported cases of coronavirus in South Africa. Here in Gweru we have 109 people who were exposed and are under surveillance. We are not saying they are infected but we are saying they travelled out of the country and as a precautionary measure they have been put under surveillance. None of them has, however, shown signs and symptoms and some are now close to 21 days since they travelled. Our health department together with other health experts have been trained to deal with coronavirus cases,” he said.

“As Gweru we do not have a facility where suspected cases can be treated or isolated. Once we detect a possible infection, we refer the patients to Bulawayo or Harare where there are better facilities. I want to warn residents particularly cross-border traders to be wary of the disease,” he said.
Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Permanent Secretary Mr Nick Mangwana said Government has put in place mechanisms to deal with coronavirus in case of a recorded incident following reported cases in neighbouring South Africa and Namibia.
If Gweru does not have isolation facilities then how is the city monitoring the 109 suspected cases without putting the public and the staff at risk? The sheer incompetence being displayed here is worrying! The danger of a serious virus outbreak and the regime not knowing about it for weeks is real!
As of the 13th March 2020, more than 9 700 travellers have been screened at our ports of entry and put on surveillance. The National Microbiology Reference Laboratory has tested 14 suspected cases for COVID-19 and all were Negative for COVID-19.

The nation was told that Zimbabwe does not have facilities to test any suspected covid-19 patients and now we are being told that the country tested 14. Which is which?
What kind of surveillance are the 9 700 travellers under. If just one of them should be covid-19 positive is the surveillance adequate to stop him/her spreading the virus?
The common story in these cases is for the virus to be spreading whilst the officials claim to have everything under control! We cannot afford to let that happen in this case.

That Zanu PF declares some places no go areas is unlawful and unacceptable in a modern society. MDC polling agents were violently chased away by Zanu PF vigilantes at four polling stations in Chimanimani, exactly the same way it happened in the 2018 election.
A case we raised even in our Presidential petition yet ignored by the Judges.
How many times have we heard MDC A complain about Zanu PF rigging the elections and demanded reforms. And how many times has the party gone on and participate in the elections knowing fully well that not even one token reform was implemented.
During the 2008 to 2013 MDC leaders had the golden opportunity to implement the reforms and not have to count on Zanu PF to do so. They failed to get even one reform implemented for the same reason they are participating in flawed elections - greed. During the GNU Mugabe bribed the MDC leaders with the trappings of high office and the forgot about the reforms. Since, Zanu PF has offered a few gravy train seats to entice the opposition to participated and they have found the bait irresistable!

ReplyDeleteThe nation has no money to buy basic necessities such as painkillers and to have clean running water for hospitals and yet the ruling elite have the money to build mansions, posh cars, business empires and lavish lifestyles. Zanu PF insists the country is poor, impoverished by "illegal sanctions imposed by the British Imperialist and their allies”. Strangely enough, these are targeted sanctions and they have made the ordinary people poor but made the ruling elite, the intended targets, filthy rich!
What is more if the wealth poured into building these palatial mansion, posh cars, etc. were spend on the matters of common interests then it is inconceivable to see why the nation can be so poor it cannot afford painkillers!
Of course, it is corruption that has made the ruling elite filthy rich and it is this wholesale looting that has made the nation poor. The ruling elite are blaming the nation’s economic meltdown on sanctions but will not say where they are getting their wealth. They are hoping that the masses will be fooled by the sanctions decoy and never ask anything about the rampant corruption.
However, addressing members of the Young Journalists Association (YOJA), Madhuku said MPs from both the MDC and Zanu-PF were questioning the spirit of a Bill that seeks to centralise power around President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

This is just stupid. Madhuku and everyone in the opposition camp participated in flawed and illegal July 2018 elections giving the process and result some modicum of credibility and legitimacy. And now they pretend they can tame the monster they helped to legitimise!
Mnangagwa and his Zanu PF cronies are illegitimate, they have no mandate to govern and must step down. If we allow this regime to stay in power until 2023 then we can be certain of one thing, Zanu PF will rig the 2023 elections and extend its illegitimate rule by another five years. In short, they will be no breaking this vicious cycle of rigged elections and Zanu PF corrupt and tyrannical rule.
Zanu PF must be forced to step down now so we can appoint an interim administration to implement the reforms designed to stop Zanu PF rigging elections. After 40 years of rigged elections, this should be as clear as day to all. It is insane to allow this madness to continue!
THE Government will deploy more manpower to Beitbridge Border Post to intensify screening and surveillance to detect and manage cases of coronavirus (Covid-19) as positive cases continue to increase in South Africa.
ReplyDeleteThe move is meant to strengthen the current operational procedures and manage an anticipated increase in travellers after Pretoria closed 35 land ports yesterday as part of drastic measures to combat the pandemic.
Currently, Beitbridge Border Post handles 14 000 people daily (off-peak) and 38 000 daily (in peak times). By end of day on Monday the movement of people remained normal.
Dr Moyo urged Zimbabweans to continued employing some of the prevention methods to minimise infection among them personal hygiene and maintaining prescribed greetings etiquette.
In photograph the officials are not even checking the temperature of the travellers!
Even if someone had all the outward signs of having coronavirus, the staff are clearly to equipped to avoid getting the virus and more notably the government does not have the facility to deal with the virus patient and to quarantine all those who might have picked the virus too.
This government keeps claiming that it has taken steps to stop the spread of coronavirus but there is no evidence to show this is so. Given Zimbabwe’s health care services has all but collapse even one case of coronavirus infection is one too many, the system will not cope!
In a country where 90% of the population are poor and live from hand to mouth asking someone to self-isolate even for day, much less two weeks, will be asking for too much. Poverty will force people to go out and try to earn a living even if they know the risk of catching and/or spreading coronavirus are high. It is either coronavirus or starvation!
40 years of gross mismanagement and rampant corrupt has left millions of our people poor and therefore vulnerable. We have done nothing to end the misrule for all these years and now we are paying for our folly - with human suffering and lost lives!
We should be doubling our efforts to end the curse of rigged elections and bad governance but may be that will follow in the wake of the coronavirus. May be!
