"Applaud ED, done well outside rigging elections" argue Knowledge - burdensome name for one with none N Garikai

Knowledge, is a burdensome name, no responsible parent should ever give their child such a burden. It is all very well calling someone Knowledge and he/she grows up to be as knowledgeable as the Greek Philosopher Socrates or King Solomon. If the child should grow up to be the average Jack or Jill, then they will always be seen as fraudsters claiming to have something they do not have – knowledge. Knowledge Hakata you are fraudster!

“It is always good to give an applause when someone in the calibre of President Mnangagwa does well. As much as I don't like the man but I think he deserve a little bit of some thumbs up and respect considering that he is trying by all means not just to win international support but moving Zimbabwe's economy out of the mess it finds itself in,” wrote Knowledge Hakata in Bulawayo 24.

“Without doubt he was part of the team that destroyed the once flourishing economy but the man who is always associated with a scarf on his neck has done pretty well outside rigging elections.”

It is heartening that you have acknowledged that President Mnangagwa and his junta rigged the recent elections!

What you have failed to explain is what it is exactly you want the reader to applaud this vote rigging President Mnangagwa for?

For having been a senior member of the Zanu PF dictatorship that not only destroyed the once flourishing economy but murdered over 30 000 innocent Zimbabweans to establish and retain the corrupt and tyrannical rule? As Mugabe’s “Chief Enforcer”, as former Zanu PF grandee Professor Jonathan Moyo has readily testified, President Mnangagwa carried out most of the looting, vote rigging, beatings and murders. Just six weeks ago this Zanu PF junta had seven people shot dead in Harare, just to remind us all that the regime’s thirst to shed innocent blood is unquenchable.

As for President Mnangagwa’s efforts to “win international support and revive the Zimbabwe economy”. You cannot be considered knowledgeable if you really think the international community would want to support a vote rigging and murderous thug?

“Without doubt the election has been cleverly rigged but even worse is the fact that it is the military that is behind the regime and they are now unleashing a similar fear and terror campaign on leading opposition activists and curbing all protests by killing and arresting innocent Zimbabweans,”  wrote UK MP, Kate Hoey. She was one of the many international community members who were in Zimbabwe to observe the recent elections.

“The courage and self-sacrifice of the Zimbabwean people is humbling to behold. We, in the international community cannot accept the result of the election and the UK government must take a lead to ensure that the Zimbabwean government is seen for what it is a mark 2 Mugabe regime and one that deserves no support whatsoever.”

The American renewed the targeted sanctions against Zanu PF leaders and with even you, with your superficial knowledge, acknowledging the elections were rigged; it is certain they will not be lifting the sanctions.

As for the investors and lenders, they are a shrewd and savvy lot; they are not going to invest their money is a country whose next regime change has to be another military coup or some such violent act. Anyone who invest in a pariah state, Zimbabwe being one, will do so for quick profit and quick exit. The country has no problem attracting bounty hunters to join the wholesale looting in Marange and Chiadzwa diamonds!

By rigging the elections President Mnangagwa has confirmed Zimbabwe is still a pariah state or be it with a new top dog. The corruption, vote rigging and murderous tyrannical oppression will continue as before. It is business as usual. What is there for the ordinary Zimbabwean stuck in this hell-on-earth called Zimbabwe to applaud Mnangagwa and the junta for?

By rigging the elections President Mnangagwa is holding this nation to ransom and dragging the nation even deeper into this hell of economic meltdown and political paralysis to feed his and his junta friends’ insatiable greed for absolute power and wealth. He is committing high treason and deserves to be hanged not applauded.

As for you, Knowledge Hakata, if this is your assumed name, then drop it. Your articles are devoid of that which your name evoke!

Chiwenga, who was commander of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces when the coup occurred, was rewarded with the deputy presidency in the post-coup government.
He also demanded oversight over defence and war veterans, which he got as the kingmaker. Relations between Mnangagwa and Chiwenga, however, deteriorated rapidly after the coup as they quarrelled over the transition, key government and Zanu PF appointments, and succession; how many terms of office should Mnangagwa serve.

Mnangagwa had initially appointed Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri as one of his deputies, but the military demanded that the position be given to Chiwenga, who also insisted on being in charge of defence and war veterans. Mnangagwa also wanted to appoint war veteran Victor Matemadanda - whom he has now deployed as Muchinguri-Kashiri's deputy at defence - as Zanu PF's national commissar, but the military demanded that one of the senior commanders secure the post, resulting in Retired Lieutenant-General Engelbert Rugeje's appointment.

Relations further deteriorated after an explosion occurred soon after Mnangagwa left the stage following his address at White City Stadium in Bulawayo in June.
Mnangagwa's supporters believe he was the target of the grenade attack by his internal rivals. In briefings this week, government officials revealed Mnangagwa had taken a bold decision to emasculate Chiwenga, whom they said had not hidden his ambition to succeed him in 2023.

"The first move was to take away key ministries from him and his associates. So he took away the Defence and War Veterans ministry from Chiwenga in a bid to weaken his grip on the military. By so doing, he has removed him from Defence House and KGV1 (now known as Josiah Magama Tongogara Barracks)," said a senior government official.

"Chiwenga understood the importance of the military, hence he had physically and symbolically remained at Defence House while serving as vice-president.
"Mnangagwa also killed two birds with one stone because Chiwenga's removal as Minister of Defence also enabled him to address the unconstitutionality of Chiwenga's appointment as it was in violation of section 215 of the Constitution which states that the President must appoint a minister to superintend over the Defence Forces."

Mnangagwa placed the Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) directly under his personal control.

  2. Part 2 of 2

Mnangagwa placed the Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) directly under his personal control.

Chiwenga's allies, real or imagined, were booted out or left out of the cabinet. Some ministers linked to Chiwenga like Supa Mandiwanzira - whom insiders say is actually neutral - were removed.

Although Mnangagwa appointed some technocrats headlined by Finance minister Professor Mthuli Ncube, he also rewarded his loyalists with key positions to cushion himself. These include Muchinguri-Kashiri, who took over the Defence ministry from Chiwenga, his confidante July Moyo (Local Government), Joram Gumbo (Energy), Biggie Matiza (Transport), Monica Mutsvangwa (Information), Prisca Mupfumira (Environmnet) and Ziyambi Ziyambi (Justice). He also rewarded loyalists such as Victor Matemadanda, Lovemore Matuke, Energy Mutodi and Michael Madiro with deputy ministerial positions, among others.

Despite being weakened, Chiwenga is still regarded as a major force as he still has deep roots and influence in the military.

"He was ZDF commander from December 2003 to December 2017, which is a very long time. Most of the serving senior military officers, including colonels, brigadier-generals, and major-generals, were recommended for promotion by him and still have allegiance to him," said an official.

The dog-eat-dog fighting in Zanu PF will never stop. The country's economic mess means leaders like Mnangagwa has a lot of mouths to feed and little to feed them with and so the door is open for the hungry to switch their allegiance and for rivals to have a foot hold. Everyone is now an expert at reading the direction the political wind is blowing - those who fail to do so will find themselves joining the likes of former Minister David Parerenyatwa whose number is up or worse Professor Jonathan Moyo now tweeting from some fox-hole!

  3. The World Health Organization (WHO) is scaling up its response to an outbreak of cholera in Zimbabwe, which is expanding quickly in Harare, the country's capital with a population of more than two million people

This is the price the nation must pay for 38 years of corrupt and tyrannical Zanu PF dictatorship. Zanu PF thugs have usurping the people's power to a meaningful say in the governance of the country. They have rigged elections again and again for 38 years and we have had one excuse after another just to allow them to stay in power.

If we are serious about having a competent government then we must say no to vote rigging and illegitimate government and mean it and not just pay lip service.

  4. "Former Health Minister David Parirenyatwa's arrest and that of other former ministers like Undenge all for criminal abuse of office mean

that President ED Mnangagwa will walk the talk in the fight against corruption.
"There will be no sacred cows," tweeted Deputy Minister Energy Mutodi.

What about those named in the UN report for having been behind the looting in DRC? And what of those now living in a C&M mansion reportedly with 45 gold watches a fleet of posh cars, etc.? When are they going to be finally arrested?

Indeed, the root cause of Zimbabwe's economic and political problems is the country's failure to hold those in power to democratic account because Zanu PF has been rigging elections. Those guilty of corruption are protected by those rigging the elections; arrest those rigging the elections and you stop the corruption at source!

  5. The U.S. government will not lift sanctions against Zimbabwe until the new government of President Emmerson Mnangagwa demonstrates it is "changing its ways," a senior U.S. economic official told a congressional panel on Thursday.

Manisha Singh, the U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Economic and Business Affairs, told a House of Representatives hearing there were 141 entities and individuals in Zimbabwe, including Mnangagwa and former president Robert Mugabe, that are currently under U.S. sanctions.

"Our pressure on Zimbabwe remains in place. We are trying to use this pressure to leverage political and economic reforms, human rights observations," Singh said.

"We want to see fundamental changes in Zimbabwe and only then will we resume normal relations with them," she added.

The root cause of Zimbabwe's economic meltdown and political paralysis is 38 years of corrupt and tyrannical Zanu PF rule. The party's position has been simply to cheat, beat, rape or even murder people just to make sure it retains its iron grip on power and only afterwards face whatever criticism, sanctions, etc. that may follow. It is high time that the criticisms, sanctions, etc. are stepped up.

After 38 years of slap-on-wrist "Do not rig elections measures!" It is now time for much harsher penalties. Zanu PF must not be allowed to serve it full five years because it will never implement any meaningful reforms and will rig the next elections!

The only sure way to stop Zanu PF rigging the 2023 elections is to pressure the regime to step down to allow an interim administration to implement the reforms in preparation for the 2023 elections. Zanu PF is illegitimate and it must go!

  6. PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa last week played the ball firmly into Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga's court after politically emasculating him and side-lining his key lieutenants in his cabinet appointments, leaving his ambitious deputy weak, vulnerable, and grounded.

The dog-eat-dog in Zanu PF is not over, not as long as there are more than two thugs standing! The real tragedy here is that innocent Zimbabweans are suffering too since Zanu PF has remain the ruling party all these years and is dragging the nation into the abyss with it.

  7. Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sibusiso Moyo has been claiming the international community is satisfied with the political reforms in Zimbabwe.

The world will always remember him as the man who said the 15 November 2017 military coup was not a coup but a "military assisted transition". So the world should not be surprised he is now calling rigged elections free, fair and credible elections.

The world let the Zanu PF junta off the hook after the November coup, it is not making the same mistake this time! After rigging the elections the regime is per se illegitimate and the international community must follow America's example and stop supporting the junta.

  8. Mnangagwa is a ruthless, corrupt and devious operator who will go out of his way to win his victim's confidence only to strike when they least expect it. The eight months since the last November coup has left many G40 members thinking Mnangagwa had forgiven them and now he is picking them off one by one.

The Chartered plane has left Grace impressed and she was even asking her G40 supporters not to be left behind in their support of Mnangagwa. David Parerenyatwa will pray for ED not from the comfort of his home but the discomfort of a prison cell. It is a matter of time before Grace herself ends up in the stomach of the crocodile!

All those naive and gullible Zimbabweans who have been saying we should give ED a chance should have learned the lesson when he continued with his vote rigging schemes such as buying off Chiefs when hospitals had no ambulance services. Now the country is under the grip of a cholera outbreak and Mnangagwa is more interested in buying new cars for his cronies to consolidate his hold on power than containing cholera. As for implementing the reforms to make sure 2023 elections are free, fair and credible, that is the one thing he will never do!

So what is it will Mnangagwa do other than increase our suffering for selfish reasons?

  9. @ A T Kadada

"The cholera outbreak in Zimbabwe is a human tragedy we should all gather together and prevent more deaths. This is not time to be bickering about who should be doing this or that."

This is just a nonsense argument going round and round in circles. Now with the cholera outbreak sweeping the nation, we are told to unite and focus on the problem. When the problem is behind us we are told "let bye-gone be bye-gone", as President Mnangagwa would say, let us unite and think of the future.

Let those on the frontline of fighting to contain cholera get on with their work; meanwhile we must have a serious debate on what went wrong, what lessons must be learned, etc.

President Mnangagwa has squandered nearly one billion dollars on new cars alone for his cronies in the last eight months and now we hear hospitals have no life-saving drugs. We hear the vote-rigging tyrant is planning to spend $20 million on new cars for ministers in the coming days whilst having to beg for money to buy drugs for this cholera outbreak! This is not right. We must learn to get our priorities right!

Of course, this madness would not be happening if Zanu PF was accountable to the people; the regime has long usurped the people's power and right to free, fair and credible elections. As long as Zanu PF is able to rig elections just as it rigged 30 July 2018 elections the nation must know nightmares such as the cholera outbreak will go but only to come back again and again. We need to deal with the curse of rigged elections now!

"No one can deny the fact that President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa is a unique leader who does not only pay attention to people's views especially on nation building, but act upon them, where ever necessary," you say.

"From the onset, President Mnangagwa has always been open to listening to the people, leading to his popular dictum, 'The voice of the people is the voice of God.'"

The trouble with you Zanu PF apologists and/or brainwashed idiots is you have lost touch with reality. President Mnangagwa has just blatant rigged the elections denying the people a meaningful say in the governance of the country and yet you still claim he listens to people! How did he listen to the 2 to 3 million Zimbabweans in the diaspora he denied the vote?

Mnangagwa says he had 2.4 million votes but we also know the results show that multiple voting was rampant. So how many real Zimbabweans voted for him?

  11. I agree with you there. A society that tolerate abuse in one area is most likely to tolerate abuse in other areas too!

  12. The Americans, EU and a number of western nation imposed sanction of the Zanu PF dictatorship for failing to hold free, fair and credible elections as far back as 2001/2002. It will soon be 20 years ago, surely it is long overdue that these sanctions are reviewed or scraped!

Zimbabwe is in a real economic and political mess because for the last 38 years the nation has been stuck with this corrupt, tyrannical and murderous Zanu PF dictatorship that rigged elections to stay is power. With unemployment a nauseating 90%, most basic services such as health and education is a sorry state, 3/4 of the population living on US$1.00 a day or less, etc.; it is clear that the ordinary people are desperate for meaningful political and economic change. The western nations can help bring up that meaningful change by making the sanctions bite!

If Zimbabwe going into the 2023 elections with this Zanu PF dictatorship still in power then we can all be certain that the elections will be rigged and the US and the other western nations will still be talking about ZEDRA and sanctioning! After nearly 20 years of paying lip-service to forcing Zanu PF to hold free, fair and credible elections, it is high time people stopped talking and took decisive action!

  13. "How can someone who illegally overthrew a 'democratically elected' president be allowed and be recognised to masquerade as the new leader, and as such, arrange an election?" you asked.

Mugabe was not elected by the people of Zimbabwe in 2013, the elections were rigged and none other than Emmerson Mnangagwa played a key role in those rigged elections as he has played in many others in the past. Mnangagwa is a thugs and therefore it is not surprising that he should be named one of the most corrupt leaders in Zimbabwe, ring-leader in the 2008 coup that stop MDC taking power, ring-leader in the 2017 coup that toppled Mugabe and that he had no qualms rigging this year's elections.

If Zimbabweans are serious about getting out of the hell--hole Zanu PF has landed the nation then we must show this by paying attention to whom we allow to lead the nation. To allow a vote-rigging thug like Mnangagwa to be president shows we are not ready for good and democratic government!

  14. "Zanu PF committed to human rights" says Minister of Justice Ziyambi Ziyambi

Well that is rich coming from a party that has just rigged the elections denying the people their basic right to a meaningful say in the governance of the country. This is not the first time the regime has rigged elections and, if the regime remains in power to the 2023 election, it will not be the last time Zanu PF rigs elections.

By allowing Zanu PF to rig elections and get away with it for the 38 years we have allowed the regime to deny us our right to life itself. We are nothing more than the living dead!
