Dr Moyo's hope to emulate Macron is misplace narcissist ego - no free elections in Zim N Garikai

Dr Moyo and his APA party wants to be the Emmanuel Macron of France who started his own En Marche party from scratch and a year later was swept into the Elysee Palace, defeating all the established traditional parties with a landslide 66% victory. Dr Moyo is so engrossed in what he would do as the great statesman the world has ever seen; he is promising to “fix” Zimbabwe’s economy in five years; it is not clear, whether the “fix” will take us back to where we were 10 years ago or, better still, in 1980.

He says he has a plan to defeat Zanu PF in next year’s election but, again, he will not say what this master plan is.

“We would not be doing this (contesting the elections and win) if we did not have a plan,” answered Dr Moyo. “But what we not going to do and continue to refuse to do, is put it on a public platform so that everyone else can dismember it!”

A clever answer but it will not wash! The electorate, whose votes you are after, are supposed to judge you worthy of their vote on the basis of something concrete and not just your word. Anyone; even those with a proven track record of blundering incompetence and failures, like Morgan Tsvangirai, Joice Mujuru and President Mugabe himself; will promise the moon on a silver platter only to deliver hell-on-earth.

On the economic front, Dr Moyo will probable do a hell lot better than what Zanu PF has done; indeed, ever Tsvangirai will probably do better than what Mugabe has done. Given Zimbabwe’s present position with 90% unemployment rate, vast material and human resources and economic potential, a competent government should easily achieve an average yearly economic growth rate 15% plus in the first two decades.

If the dysfunction GNU of Robert Mugabe and Morgan Tsvangirai could achieve such impressive economic growth rates of -9.9% in 2008 to 5.3%, 11.4%, 11.9% and 10.6% in 2012 with the scrapping of the worthless Z$ in late 2008 and one or two policy changes. A government with a bit more common sense will do a lot better.

The challenge before us in Zimbabwe is not so much one of failing to get a regime with common sense to replace this Zanu PF regime but rather the failure to remove this corrupt and tyrannical Mugabe regime. We are stuck with Robert Mugabe and his Zanu PF thugs; have been these last 37 years and counting!

In his almost narcissist zeal to emulate President Macron, Dr Moyo has forgotten that Zimbabwe is not France is one very important aspect – elections in Zimbabwe are not free, fair and credible. Zanu PF rigs elections and has been doing so for the last 37 years. Dr Moyo is not only being naïve to ignore this political reality but, worse still, he is being down-right criminal because of the political, social and economic consequences of his failed political adventure is yet another Zanu PF rigged election, another five years of chaos, misery and hopeless despair.

“Over the last three elections, only about 43% of eligible voters have turned out to vote,” argued Dr Moyo. “Our approach to politics is to get those who have been staying away. Who have been saying ‘There is no option out there that I find attractive.’”

But that is exactly the point, Dr Moyo, you are assuming the elections were free, fair and credible which nonsense because the elections were rigged.

Yes, many Zimbabweans have failed to vote in the past but not because they did not consider whatever opposition there was a viable alternative to Zanu PF. Many people would rather vote ‘for a donkey than Mugabe’, Professor Jonathan Moyo once said; just to underline how desperate the people of Zimbabwe have been for regime change. Mugabe has been rigging the vote to deny many Zimbabwean a meaningful vote.

There is documentary evidence showing that the voter registration in opposition strongholds was slow and laborious and so many did not register. Last time, near one million people were denied the vote because their details were not in the constituent voters' roll they expected. The regime stubbornly refused to release the voters' roll at least one month before voting day as is required by law. Many of the voters would have discovered the mix up in time for them to vote, which is why many believe the mix up was a deliberate act.

The 2013 voters roll has not been released even to this day! The regime must know a close scrutiny of the voters roll will uncover the extend of the vote rigging, the voters’ roll is the smoking gun.

There is less than a year to go before next election and yet the task of voter registration has not even started, for example. The regime is dragging its feet on this to justify a stampede later. No doubt many people will once again fail to register, there will be many irregularities in the voters roll, etc. In short, the vote rigging has already started!

Dr Moyo cannot just assume that everyone who voted for President Mugabe in his 62% victory did so out of their free will and that the vote count is true. Zanu PF has used its tried, tested and trusted carrot and stick vote rigging trick to win elections for years. The trick is a blend of vote buying; giving away food and farming inputs to povo and cars and bicycles to traditional leaders with the left hand, whilst wielding the stick in the right hand.

Many rural voters were frogmarched to attend Zanu PF rallies and then to vote for the party candidates in the past and this continues to happen even now. Indeed, Dr Moyo has said he would not hold any public rallies himself because he fearful of these attending his rallies would be beaten by Zanu PF thugs or worse.

In the 2013 elections, the number of polling stations was increased from 2 000 to a staggering 9 000 just days before voting day. Everyone has seen YouTube videos of hooded Zanu PF youths bussed from one polling station to the next to vote. Again, nothing has been done to stop this happen again next year.

There are many, many other ways giving Zanu PF the competitive advantage over everyone else such as the party have the total monopoly of the country's public media; having unfettered access to the country's resources and State machinery; etc. Zimbabwe’s electoral field is definitely tilted in favour of Zanu PF.

The cost of nation going through next year’s election is that Zanu PF will rig the vote and another five years of the economic chaos and political tyranny is a nightmare. But worse still the nation would forfeit yet another chance to get the reforms implemented and put to bed this scourge of vote rigging at the heart of the country’s political paralysis and economic meltdown.

Dr Moyo have no plan to stop Zanu PF rigging the vote. And so, he is working on the assumption that Zimbabwe elections are free, fair and credible; we will be foolish to go along with that because that is the one thing we should know by now is not true. The last thing we want is Dr Moyo admitting at the press interview the day after the elections that the elections “were stolen” just as Tsvangirai did after the July 2013 elections.

We know the 2018 elections will be stolen unless we implement the reforms BEFORE the elections. After 37 years, it is madness to keep contesting elections knowing fully well Zanu PF will rig the vote and expecting a different result!

  1. There is something fundamentally wrong with our education system because we have produced some academically seemingly brilliant individuals, some even have seven University degrees, but it is shocking how many of them do not have any common sense. Dr Moyo is certainly one of those seemingly brilliant academic and professionals but have no common sense.

How is it possible that anyone, anyone at all, with some common sense would missed the glaring obvious - that Zanu PF rigs elections! So his narcissist ego has made him so big headed he cannot think straight.

Zimbabwe cannot afford another fcuk up in the form of another rigged elections. Millions of our people have suffered greatly and hundreds of thousands have died unnecessarily because we have this corrupt and tyrannical Zanu PF dictatorship. It is nonsensical that we have allowed this fcuked up regime ruin our lives all for these last 37 years. There is no excuse in contesting another flawed elections and grand the regime another term in power! It is madness to allow this to happen and for stupid reason of letting some narcissist idiot gratify his hot-air balloon size ego!

We want free, fair and credible elections and not his feeble admission the election was stolen! Dr Moyo must be stopped or else exposed for the narcissist he is!

  2. @ Chamutengure

MDC leaders were presented with a simple choice contest the flawed July 2013 elections but if you lose the nation will be stuck with the corrupt and tyrannical Zanu PF regime for another five years. And, worst still, will forfeit the opportunity to implement the democratic reforms to ensure future elections are free, fair and credible.

The alternative was to postpone the elections and get the reforms implemented and have the rock solid guarantee that the result of the election that followed and all to follow in the future are free, fair and credible.

MDC choice the first option and the election was rigged with the consequences as stated above.

We, the people of Zimbabwe not MDC, Dr Moyo or any of the opposition village idiots, WE THE PEOPLE, have the choice to allow ourselves to go through yet another flawed electoral process that MDC dragged us into in 2013.

The best Dr Moyo will say after Zanu PF has rigged the election is admit the elections were rigged. That is simply not good enough! If you cannot see that then you have a problem and it is you who should shut up!

  3. Dr Moyo is standing for election because he believes it is his right to stand for public office if he so wished. He is clearly not interested about the millions of Zimbabweans out there who have been denied for the last 37 years their basic freedoms and human rights including the right to a meaningful vote and even the right to life.

He does not care two red pennies that in exercising his right to contest elections he is per se endorsing the Zanu PF dictatorship status quo and helping to perpetuate it.

No one is asking him to give up his right to contest elections all people are saying is please put your ambition on hold just for a few months whilst we secure the ordinary povo's basic freedoms and human rights. Indeed, if our selfish opposition had not been so selfish and greed all the democratic reforms should have been implemented within the first 18 months of the GNU as was originally agreed.

Dr Moyo's argument that he is standing because he wants to help revive the Zimbabwe economy is a cheap shot. He knows that the people are facing serious economic hardships and they will be attracted by the offer to end the economic meltdown. We are like a grazing animal that can see the green grass the other side of the river. The animal can see the danger of the swollen river and the hungry crocodiles. The foolish wildebeest are known to plough on resulting in the death of hundreds or even hundreds of thousands before they come to their senses. The more savvy Zebra are known to turn back and wait for the swollen river to go down and/or find a better crossing point.

We are human being, we are supposed to be even smarter than the Zebra and yet for the last 37 years have behaved more like the foolish wildebeest.

We have been stuck with this corrupt and tyrannical Zanu PF dictatorship for the last 37 years because we have failed to deal with the immediate problem of stopping the vote rigging. It is pointless focusing on the grass on the other side of the river and take your eyes off the immediate danger of crossing the river. What is the point of dreaming of the sweet grass when you should know that unless you cross the river safely, you will never eat it!

What we need is to implement the democratic reforms to unsure free, fair and credible elections and we must not allow cunning and corrupt Zanu PF or the incompetent but short-sighted opposition stampede us into yet another flawed election.

Dr Moyo's right to contest elections must not be at the cost of millions being denied the freedoms and basic human rights. Let us face it the right to contest the election is a luxury compare to the life and death price millions are paying for losing their freedoms and human rights.

It will be madness to gratify Dr Moyo's narcissist ego, yes narcissist ego because that is exactly what we are dealing with here, at the cost of millions of ordinary Zimbabweans suffering and hundreds of thousands dying for it! Dr Moyo and every other opposition candidate thinking of contesting next year's flawed elections must be stopped and/or exposed for the selfish and greedy opportunists they are!

  4. Grace Mugabe is worried sick what will happen to her and a immediate family the day her husband is no longer President. Her biggest worry is the loot the family has amassed, she cannot hide the loot and expect to live quietly in Zimbabwe or abroad. It is just too big. 72% of the country's 14 million are today living in poverty using the regime's own figures, no one can ever justify why she should be allowed to keep her loot when so many have nothing.

Grace is like a leopard that has killed an elephant, it will never get the elephant up the tree and the circling vultures tell her the hyenas, lions, wild dogs and all the other carnivals will soon be arriving to claim their share of the action.

Grace's insatiable greed has impoverished the nation and there is no way the nation is going to accept that she keeps the loot! Watch this space.

  5. It is good when the political violence affect the opposition politicians themselves because they will finally acknowledge it. Povo have endured untold violence for decades and these politicians have all paid lip service to ending violence. Why did Mudzuri and his MDC friends fail to implement even one reform during the GNU; all this would not be happening today if they had done so!

Now that the Zanu PF are burning the grass under MDC-T leaders themselves' feet, there is a chance they will listen and withdraw from contesting flawed elections. Elias Mudzuri will not contest next year's elections if some one was to tell him that he will be beaten by Zanu PF thugs if he did. And yet he will contest even if he was told that hundreds of thousands of MDC-T supporters will be beaten and raped and hundreds murdered. This is how selfish and greed these MDC leaders are!

  6. At the recently held Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission Economic, Social and Cultural Rights Thematic Working Group Consultative Workshop held at the Holiday Inn Harare, Commissioner Kwanele Muriel Jirira bemoaned the human rights watchdog's over its meagre National Budget allocation, which she said needed immediate and dire review.

Making sure that key institutions like ZEC and ZHRC are under-funded is one way of making sure they are there as window dressing allowing the regime all the room to carry out its core activities of rigging the vote to stay in power. If commissioner Jirira was an honest player then she would admit that when she took on the post she knew she was there as part of the regime’s elaborate rouse. She is asking for more funds but know the commission will get nothing.

Indeed, just like Rita Makarau at ZEC, Jirira is playing her assigned role complete with all the theatricals and panache – making up a big song and dance of how much she and her fellow ZHRC commissioners are itching to protect every Zimbabwean’s freedoms and human rights if only they had all the resources they need. We, the long-suffering public, are supposed to be touched and accept our suffering, contend ZHRC, at least, WANT to do a good job.

Other ZHRC commissioners have resigned in protest at how totally useless the commission is; Jirira and the others should have never accepted the appointments. The nation is sick and tired of people who shed buckets of crocodile tears in public but continue to play their role in the up keep of the dictatorship and take their share of the spoils of power.

  7. Some people are saying Dr Moyo is a "Zanu PF project". I can see why they are saying so. Tsvangirai and his fellow opposition friends have lost political credibility, the whole world can see they have no chance of winning the elections. They are contesting for the give away gravy train seats Zanu PF uses to entice the opposition to contest the flawed elections. Zanu PF is hoping that Dr Moyo would jazz up the opposition camp and give the election some measure of a contested race!

Zanu PF is directly or indirectly sponsoring Dr Moyo! He certainly has nothing to lose here. Zanu PF will lose legitimacy if the regime does not do something to prop up the discredited opposition; Dr Moyo could well be that prop!

Sadly, Dr Moyo's Zanu PF handlers have failed to come up with a convincing reason why Dr Moyo should contest a flawed election. The feeble excuses he has given so far have only left people with more questions about his credibility!

  8. In his blind pursuit of political power Dr Moyo does not care that millions of ordinary Zimbabwe should not only continue to suffer in damn anguish the injustice of being denied the freedoms and human rights but, by contesting the elections, forfeit these people yet another chance to get this injustice finally resolved. Why he could not put his ambition to be the Emmanuel Macron of Zimbabwe on hold whilst we get the reform implemented is beyond me!

Dr Moyo’s attitude to other people’s freedoms and basic rights is no different from that of Mugabe, the tyrant did not hesitate putting povo’s freedoms and human rights on the side burn ahead of his selfish interest of creating the dictatorship. Dr Moyo is doing the same thing here, he does not care that millions will be frogmarched to rallies, etc. as long as he pursues his dream to be president.

In putting his ambition ahead of the common people’s freedoms and human rights he can pretend he is doing so for them the truth is he is doing it for himself!
