Biti accused ZANU-PF operatives of riding on the credibility of genuine applicants to file phantom litigation designed to be dismissed on technical grounds - thereby creating a legal precedent to justify the term extension without public consent.
"This is the latest chapter in the copybook of Agenda 2030 shenanigans," Biti said. "They have used violence, fear, capture, and coercion to drive this process. Millions have been spent compromising individuals and institutions."
He alleged that vehicles and other resources were being used to entrap political opponents, while ghost social media accounts were deployed to push the narrative. "Zimbabwe is not buying into this. The attempt to mutilate the Constitution represents the biggest existential threat to the Republic," he warned.
Biti emphasized that defending the Constitution is synonymous with defending national dignity and sovereignty. "Everything else starts and ends with constitutionalism and the rule of law. Any contrary position is a betrayal of the values of the liberation struggle," he said.
He further condemned what he termed "fraudulent attempts to manipulate processes by creating ghost litigation," vowing that the opposition would remain vigilant and alert.
His remarks come amid growing concern over alleged judicial complicity and political engineering aimed at extending Mnangagwa's tenure beyond the constitutionally mandated two terms.
In 2008 Mnangagwa and Chiwenga stopped ZEC announcing the March election results and ordered a recount that was to last six weeks. They whittled down Tsvangirai’s 73% vote count to 47% enough to justify a presidential run off.
The two Zanu PF thugs masterminded Operation Mavhotera Papi, a military style operation whose sole purpose was to punish the people of Zimbabwe for daring to reject Zanu PF in the March 2008 vote. War veterans and Zanu PF youth militia as the foot soldiers tasked to harass, destroy property, beat and/or rape. They were backed by the Army, Police, CIO and Prison Services personnel who carried out the heavy duty tasks of abducting and killing.
“What was won by the bullet cannot be undone with a ballot!” thundered Robert Mugabe, publicly endorsing Operation Mavhotera Papi.
Millions of Zimbabweans were forced to go into hiding, hundreds of thousands were severely assaulted. Some had their hands cut-off at the wrist or elbow - “long sleeve or short sleeve” their assailants would ask. Over 500 people were murdered or disappeared.
“Zanu PF has declared war on the people!” complained Morgan Tsvangirai and withdrew from the run-off.
Mugabe won the 2008 run-off, the one-horse race. And ever since Zanu PF has reminded the people the party will revive Operation Mavhotera Papi if they dared reject the party ever again. Operation harvest fear!
SA’s President Thabo Mbeki send out a team to investigate the election violence. One of the Generals on the team broke down into tears. “How can a liberation movement commit such heinous crimes against its own people!” he cried.
It was on the basis of the Generals’ report that the ANC government and the rest of SADC leaders refused to recognise Zanu PF political legitimacy forcing Mugabe to accept the 2008 to 2013 GNU.
The primary purpose of the GNU was to implement the democratic reforms to ensure the blatant cheating wanton violence of the 2008 elections will never be repeated ever again.
Alas! Not even one token democratic reform was implemented in the 5 GNU years. Robert Mugabe bribed Morgan Tsvangirai, Tendai Biti and the rest of the MDC leaders with the trappings of high office and with their snouts in the feeding trough their forgot about implementing the reforms.

The people of Zimbabwe have risked all to elect Morgan Tsvangirai, Tendai Biti and the rest of the MDC leaders these last 25 years on the understanding they will implement all the necessary democratic changes, reforms, to stop Zanu PF rigging elections, They named their party Movement for Democratic Change to underline what they were there for.
The MDC leaders DID have many opportunities to implement the reforms with the best chances coming during the 2008 to 2013 GNU. They have failed to implement even one token reform. Not even one! Mugabe bribed them with the trappings of high office and they forgot about the reforms.
Ever since the GNU debacle the MDC/CCC leaders have participated in flawed elections to give Zanu PF legitimacy out of greed. They knew this and even conned their followers to participate on the basis of idiotic lies that the MDC/CCC would win the rigged elections.
“The worst aspect for me about the failure to agree a coalition was that both MDCs couldn’t now do the obvious - withdraw from the (2023) elections. The electoral process was so flawed, so illegal, that the only logical step was to withdraw, which would compel SADC to hold Zanu PF to account. But such was the distrust between the MDC-T and MDC-N that neither could withdraw for fear that the other would remain in the elections, winning seats and giving the process credibility,” confessed David Coltart in his Book, The Struggle Continues 50 years of Tyranny in Zimbabwe.
Biti & co. are hell bent on participating in flawed and illegal 2028 elections just as they have participated in flawed elections in the past. Whilst in the past they have used the idiotic lies such as “plugged all vote rigging loop holes. #Godisinit!” this time they will participate “to stop Zanu PF amending the constitution to accommodate ED 2030!”
The truth is the real big fight is still implementing the reforms to stop Zanu PF rigging the elections - the fight MDC leaders have avoided for the last 25 years including the GNU years. We cannot get any reforms implemented now but can do the next best thing stop participating to give the regime legitimacy.
If Chamisa & co. had not participated in the 2023 election in numbers, 2 million, both SADC and AU would have denied Zanu PF legitimacy. If the opposition does not participate in their millions in 2028 and Zanu PF is denied legitimacy and forced to go into a new GNU, the new GNU will refuse to have Mnangagwa imposed on them.
So even if Mnangagwa had managed to arm-twist this parliament to extend his stay in office beyond 2028. Zanu PF’s failure to get legitimacy in 2028 will stop all that rubbish.
Tendai Biti & co. are hell bent on participating in flawed 2028 elections; stopping them and the millions of their brain dead followers participating is the big challenge!

Zanu PF has managed to rig elections and stay in power for 45 years and counting because the party has out manoeuvred the opposition again and again and again.
If there is one thing that Zanu PF has always feared the most it is holding free, fair and credible elections. By the late 1990s the party knew it would never win free and fair elections and so it blatantly rigged the elections. The regime has also came up with all manner of excuses and diversions to avoid addressing the issue of rigged elections.
The regime has always insisted that the West imposing the 2001sanctions to punish the party for seizing the farms from the white farmers. The truth is Zanu PF has never ever held free, fair and credible elections dating back to 1980!
If the issue of free and fair election took centre stage the regime force the land issue back on the table by stepping up the farm invasions accompany by some gratuitous wanton violence especially during election times. The farm invasion violence will then spill over into rural constituencies where povo supporters of the opposition will be attacked, accused of supporting regime change and giving the land back to the white farmers.
So instead of the nation focusing on making sure all Zimbabweans enjoyed their right to a meaningful say in the governance of the country it was fight over land. A convenient smoke screen behind which to hind the blatant denial of basic freedoms and rights.
Mnangagwa does not want to discuss that fact that even SADC and AU election observers condemned Zimbabwe’s 2023 election process as flawed and illegal and has used ED2030 Agenda to draw the nation’s attention away the damning report. The regime will committee all manner of dirty tricks to make sure the nation’s attention is focus on ED 2030 at the expense of the real important business of implementing reforms to stop the regime rigging 2028 elections and getting away with it.
Like it or not ED2030 is a decoy the real fight is to get the reform implemented or else refuse to participate in the flawed elections.

A few moons ago Mnangagwa himself spelt out what the journalist can say and all those who fail to do so “Chibakwira muziso!” (Punch in the eye!) Many journalists like Mudhara B, Blessed Mhlanga, have been arrested and locked up - proof this was not an empty threat.

One answer: our leaders have paid lip service to democracy and good governance but as soon as they get a sniff of political power greed and the edge to dominate at all cost, the default primeval setting. ReplyDeleteZambia's President Hichilema is visiting Zimbabwe, his maiden visit after he and ED fell out because the latter had blatantly supported Lungu in Zambia's 2021 elections. The relationship was broken beyond repair when Dr Nevers Mumba, of Zambia, chaired the SADC Election Observer Mission that condemned Zimbabwe's 2023 elections. Zanu PF attack dogs were released to attack both Dr Mumba and President Hichilema.
So does the maiden visit signify HH and ED kissing and making up? Signify HH abandoning his heroic stand against regimes that fail to hold free, fair and credible elections? This is particularly worrying given the recent events in Tanzania - the consequences of yet another betrayal of the people's right to free, fair and credible elections.
The right to free and fair elections is more than a right, it is the essence of good governance - something many of us in African are dying for!

It has made the ruling elite filthy rich and they have used some of the looted wealth to corrupt every section of society making change near impossible.
Millions of ordinary people have received the bribes from the ruling elite and their cronies of Sapatina chicken and, occasional cars, with such pride and joy not knowing these are nothing more than the sugar coated poison pill corruption. In a country where the people are incapable of comprehending detail, truth, facts and reality, the people cannot think nor reason for themselves, democracy does not work.
The politicians and pastors have taken advantage of the people's ignorance and prey on the people. They politicians and pastors have become demigods who do no wrong and instead of holding them to account the people worship them.
Many Zimbabweans believed Chamisa when he said he was the anointed one of the Lord. Even with the benefit of hindsight proving it was just another Chamisa lie, many still believe Chamisa is anointed. Religion is the opium of these people and until they sober up democracy will never work here.

ReplyDeleteMnangagwa pushed ED 2030 soon after the 2023 elections. "Why would he be talking of extending his stay in office when he has hardly served his five years?" many asked.
Answer: both SADC and AU election observers had condemned the 2023 election process as flawed and illegal making him and his regime illegitimate. He needed to throw something that will draw attention away from his illegitimacy and the threat of extending his rule beyond 2028 did exactly that! ED 2030 is a distraction that has served him very well and he is as keen as mustard to keep it on the national agenda as long as possible.
MDC/CCC leaders sold out on implementing reforms to stop Zanu PF rigging elections and they have participated in flawed elections out of greed. Chamisa & co. have even lied about plugging vote rigging loop holes to justify participating in flawed elections. They are gearing to participate in flawed 2028 elections under the pretext of fighting ED 2030.
Bothy Zanu PF and MDC/CCC want the ED 2030 distraction from the real important fight of implementing reforms to ensure free, fair and credible elections. We should not allow then to con us into yet another side issue and keep our eyes on the big fight of reforms and freed elections!
Our failure to pay attention to detail has allowed corrupt and incompetent leaders to get away with murder! Mnangagwa’s vision 2030 is a mirage and he has deployed a whole brigade of well funded media operatives to bombard the nation with stories of development and progress. How many times has the nation heard of how times all our electricity problems are a thing of the past and yet there is still load shedding!

ReplyDeleteThe people of Zimbabwe must remember 17 November 2017 as Dumb Day or Dzungu Day because on that day hundreds of thousands poured out into the streets in support of the November 2017 military coup. All the coup ever accomplish was replace one dictator, Robert Mugabe, with another, Emmerson Mnangagwa. Of course, it was a dumb thing.
What the nation had been dying for was to dismantle the Zanu PF dictatorship and replace it with a healthy and functioning democracy. What was there to celebrate in swapping one dictator for another.
Alas! 17 November 2017 was not first dumb day nor was it the last. In participating in flawed 2028 elections the nation is going to repeat the foolishness of 17 November 2017 in that we would have stopped Mnangagwa staying in office beyond 2028 at the price of perpetuating the Zanu PF dictatorship. We have not yet learned that swapping dictators is no substitute for ending the dictatorship.

Robert Mugabe and his Zanu PF thugs continue to deny rural folk title deed to even a few square metres of land on which these peasants' mud huts stand! For the same selfish political reasons. ReplyDeleteIt is heartening to note that many Zimbabweans now acknowledge that the nation's support of the 2017 military coup was a mistake, dumb, dzungu! The mistake was that the nation thought the removal of Mugabe would deliver the democratic changes the nation was dying for.
Swapping one dictator for another was NOT replacing dictatorship with democracy.
It is most disheartening that acknowledging the above mistakes does not mean we have LEARNED the lesson because we are gearing to repeat the same mistake. Zimbabweans are being conned into participating in flawed 2028 elections under the guess of "Stopping ED amending the constitution to extend his stay in office beyond 2028!"
If we participate in flawed 2028 elections we will give vote rigging Zanu PF legitimacy thus perpetuating the Zanu PF dictatorship with Mnangagwa as head (if we fail to stop him amending the constitution) or some one else. Whether we have Mnangagwa or someone else is academic what matters is we will have a Zanu PF dictatorship and dictator just as happened post 2017 coup!
We should be fighting to ensure Zanu PF does NOT rig 2028 election and get away with it, if it rigs! If Zanu PF is denied legitimacy there will be no Zanu PF dictatorship post 2028 and therefore there will be no Mnangagwa or anyone else Zanu PF dictator. There cannot be a dictator if there is no dictatorship.
