"I have my two terms, and when the time comes, the country and the party will move on by electing my successor. I have said clearly that I have two terms, and these two terms are definite," reiterated Mnangagwa at the Press Conference yesterday.
"When they come to an end, I will step aside, and my party will elect my successor—that is as clear as day. Those who have other imaginations, we have a democratic society that allows them to dream.”
So Mnangagwa has given up his 2030 agenda because he is a DEMOCRATIC who respects the constitution! Yeah right! Since when?
Mnangagwa blatantly rigged the 2023. Both SADC and AU election observers condemning the election process as flawed and illegal and he dismissed them with the usual dismissive contempt.
Just a year after rigging the 2023 elections he was already scheming how to extend his illegitimate mandate. He coerced Zanu PF to pass the October 2024 party conference resolution that he should be allowed to stay office until 2030 to deliver vision 2030. The argument was that he was the only leader who could be trusted to pull the nation out of poverty into the upper middle income status in record time.
The give away was why was the resolution being passed so early in his second five-year term?
There was no evidence that Mnangagwa had done anything to revive the Zimbabwe economic in his first five year term. Indeed, the Zimbabwe economy has continued its nose-dive since Mnangagwa took over from Mugabe following the 2017 military coup.
Mnangagwa promised to stamped out corruption in 2017. Corruption has gone into overdrive instead.
Mnangagwa was cocksure his “Zimbabwe is open for business!” was going to open the flood gates of investors. Investors are shrewd lot, they were not fool by the musical chair of swapping one dictator for another; they knew the Zimbabwe was still a pariah state ruled by corrupt, incompetent and vote rigging thugs.
The 2024 party conference resolution for Mnangagwa to stay in power till 2030 was rushed through because Mnangagwa knew vision 2030 was a lead balloon that would never fly, a mirage. When the few businesses and shops left are closing, people can see patients with broken limbs stripped up in cardboard, potholes even in the country’s major roads, etc. even the blind can see vision 2030 is a mirage.
“I will step down in 2028 - that is as clear as day!” What is as clear as day is that vision 2030 is a lead balloon and since that was the justification for staying on till 2030, of course, you will step down in 2028!

ReplyDeleteZDF, just like the Police, CIO, judiciary, etc. have been corrupted and turned into Zanu PF departments in all but name. ZDF sided with one faction in 2017 and the coup was not "justified, legal and constitutional" and it is not surprising that it failed to restore rule of law nor end the looting. History is repeating itself.
ZDF is once again taking sides in the factional war tearing Zanu PF apart. ZDF should stop pretending it is independent much less that it cares about rule of law and the people.

ReplyDeleteMnangagwa assures us that he will not be persuaded to stay in office beyond 2028. His reason for staying in power beyond 2028 was to deliver vision 2030, deliver economic prosperity turning the nation from the impoverished nation into the upper middle income nation.
The economic reality shows Zimbabwe is sinking deeper and deeper into poverty, vision 2030 is a mirage. And so it is nonsensical he should stay beyond his fixed term to deliver a mirage. ED2030 is dead and buried. Thank God and now the nation can turn its attention to the many pressing issues.

ReplyDeleteColumn of Army tanks driving in Harare City is deja vu November 2017. Of course, we saw this one coming; by blatantly rigging the 2023 elections Mnangagwa confirmed the ballot would not bring regime change and so the only other option was violence. The November 2017 coup itself had set a dangerous precedence!
Every thinking Zimbabweans must hang their heads in shame we have failed to put and end to the Zanu PF dictatorship, 45 years and counting and we still failing to govern ourselves! Shame!

ReplyDeleteIn theory the war of independence was fought to end white colonial oppression by securing the freedoms and rights of all Zimbabweans. What happened in practice is the black nationalists leaders could not resist the temptation of assuming for themselves the same tyrannical powers the whites had enjoyed for themselves.
Gandhi and his fellow Indian nationalists asked themselves: What kind of leaders would an armed struggle throw up? We, in Zimbabwe have answered that. Our armed struggle throw up corrupt, incompetent and murderous thugs who believe they have the divine right to rule Zimbabwe.
Zimbabwe is a failed state because it is a pariah state ruled by war veterans who believe they have the divine right to rule. We need to end this madness or the nation is doomed.

ReplyDeleteIf Zimbabweans in the diaspora are the scum of the earth and those who have remained in the country are the creme de la creme then why is the country still sinking deeper and deeper into the abyss!

ReplyDeleteZimbabwe is a failed state because we a stuck with a dictatorship, swapping dictators is not answer!

ReplyDeleteNo matter how vicious the Zanu PF factional war gets neither faction will never ever allow the implementation of any meaningful democratic reforms. Both factions know that Zanu PF have enjoyed absolute political power these last 45 thanks to the carte blanche power given it by the dictatorship, they will never give up these dictatorial powers.
Zanu PF factions are like cobras fighting for dominance they will never bite each other. If they were fighting for survival they would bite!

ReplyDeleteSo Derek Goto is Varakashi4ED director of operations.
"Chinamasa appointed Norman Mbimbi as the new administrator for the Varakashi4ED unit, with Dereck Goto taking on the role of director of operations. He also emphasized that he would continue to oversee the unit in his capacity as executive director."
God only knows how many other Varakashi4ED there are out there. The thing is Zanu PF is loaded, the party is collecting billions of dollars from all the wholesale looting taking place. We should have implemented the democratic reforms when we had the golden opportunity to do so during the 2008 to 2013 GNU, doing so now is really tough!
"Simbi inorohwa ichapisa!" as one would say in Shona. We wasted the golden opportunity and now we are paying dearly for it!
