China built 1000 bed 5 star covid-19 hospital in 10 days - our isolation centres still have no running water after 6 months W Mukori

“The (Beitbridge Rainbow Hotel) Isolation Centre has no tap water because Beitbridge generally has a serious water crisis attributed to the inefficiencies of the local council. The borehole that the centre had resorted to has also broken down, said officials during a tour of the facility,” reported The Mirror (Masvingo).

This is an outrage!

Whilst we all agree on the need to isolate all those coming from outside the country and might bring into the country the deadly covid-19. It is important to understand that not everyone of the returnees has the virus and therefore the isolation centre must offer living condition to protect those who are not infected from being infected.

Whilst it would be good to have these centres equipped with ICU equipment, ventilators, etc., etc. since it is clear they are now doubling up as isolation centres for returnees and covid-19 hospitals. Still the is no excuse why these centres are failing to supply something as basic as clean running water.

The Chinese built, equipped and staffed from scratch a 1 000 bed state of the art field hospital, Houshenshan Hospital, for covid-19 patients in 10 days! It is nonsense that Zimbabwe cannot deploy a team of soldiers to install water tanks and pump to ensure isolation centres up and down the country have clean running water.

Instead of these isolation centres serving the important purpose of stop the spread of covid-19 they are now the virus hotspots – anyone who goes there is certain to catch the virus!

Zanu PF’s blundering incompetence in the handling of covid-19 is turning a tragic situation by all account into a catastrophe of Biblical proportion! The regime was quick off the mark in deploying the bloated Police, Army and the dreaded CIO to enforce the lockdown but did not even have the common sense to employ even a few of them to do really useful for a change!

  1. Zanu PF has thrived on misinformation, propaganda and down right lying. The party knows it has mishandled the corona virus pandemic and so to stop criticism, it is telling the nation lies about the virus.

It is one thing to falsify the covid-19 confirmed cases and deaths and at least do something to contain the virus as the Chinese have done. It is another to falsify the virus figures and do nothing to stop the virus spreading, which is what this Zanu PF government has done! This is down right criminal because people are not taking any precautions in the handling of covid-19 patients because they were told they are malaria patients, for example. This is only helping the virus spread even more widely!

If there is an outbreak of covid-19 then President Mnangagwa, Minister Obadiah Moyo and many of the Zanu PF leaders will have a lot to answer for!

  2. Zimbabwe’s coronavirus frontline nurses have been paid a measly ZW$700 as allowances for working since the spread of the deadly coronavirus pandemic in the country two months ago.

We received the money two days later and we got ZW$700 plus our salary which was ZW$3 000. We are living in fear and anxiety. We took care of the late patients and have come into contact with other positive patients.

It is totally unacceptable that these healthcare workers should be exposed to the risk of covid-19 infections because the regime is not testing suspected covid-19 patients for selfish reasons of hiding the truth for political gain.

Many Zimbabweans know that Zanu PF is “rigging” the covid-19 data, just as the party has rigged elections, and they are saying nothing about it. The nation will pay dearly for the rigged covid-19 data, many, many more people will the infected with the virus many will suffer and others will die. I hope those of us who have chosen to said nothing will remember we played our part in the unnecessarily suffering and deaths of thousands if not hundreds of thousands of others!

  3. Tanzania woke up to the sad news of the demise of the head of Geita district Mr. Hamim Buzohera Gwimaya. Hamim Buzohera passed away on Friday May 8th as 5am. It is alleged that he had contracted the corona virus disease and likely to have succumbed to it.

This comes at a time when there is public outcry over the manner in which president John Pombe Magufuli is handling the coronavirus pandemic in Tanzania. Opposition party leader Freeman Mbowe has accused the government of hiding the true nature of the coronavirus pandemic. This was after 3 members of parliament died in a span of 11 days in what was seen to be as a result of covid-19 disease.

Even since April 29th, Tanzania has not announced any further results of coronavirus disease defying the international guidelines of daily reporting of coronavirus cases. During the last announcement, the number of confirmed cases rose to 480 while deaths rose to 16.

President Magufuli is not alone in seeking to falsify the seriousness of corona virus in the country to avoid criticism of how he has mishandled the pandemic. Mnangagwa is doing the same thing for exactly the same reasons. The tragedy is that the virus is not so easily fooled, indeed by denying the nation the correct information on the virus, it is helping it to spread, as the people are not as cautious and vigilant as the ought to be.

WHO has the duty of care to the ordinary citizens to make sure such disease outbreaks do not become an epidemic and yet that is what is happening here and WHO is as quiet as the grave. In Africa, WHO and the UN in general has connived with the ruling elite at the expense of good governance and the long-suffering masses. This is a matter that must be looked into!

  4. SADC leaders have already shown that they are a naïve and gullible lot – their willingness to join Mnangagwa to blame sanctions for Zimbabwe’s ills being a one example. If they are going to trust Mnangagwa to handle the covid-19 pandemic, then they have learned nothing from the past.
Mnangagwa’s blundering incompetence has allowed the virus to spread in the country and now he is hiding his failures by stubbornly refusing to test for covid-19. Only a fool believes there are only 34 covid-19 cases and 4 deaths in Zimbabwe. And now President Magufuli of Tanzania is following Mnangagwa’s example, he has stop testing in Tanzania.

“I would like to thank HE President @CyrilRamaphosa for chairing this morning’s important meeting between heads of state regarding the ongoing response to COVID-19. I wish the people of Zimbabwe, & the entire region, a blessed & healthy weekend. We will get through this together!” said Mnangagwa.

By falsifying the covid-19 figures Mnangagwa is this tragic situation into a catastrophic disaster of Biblical proportion with devastating economic, social and political consequences not just foe Zimbabwe but for the whole region.

Already the WB has only given a fraction of the aid it has given other nation and underlined the need “for strict transparency and accountability measures”. The world knows this Zanu PF regime is corrupt, incompetent and very wasteful. SADC leaders can bury their heads in the sand and pretend Mnangagwa is competent leader but there is a heavy price to pay.

SADC leaders know Mnangagwa blatantly rigged the July 2018 elections and now the people of Zimbabwe and the whole SADC region is paying for it! Mnangagwa is taking us all on a tour of hell-on-earth! Sit tight!

  5. Registrar General Clemence Masango was Friday granted a $10 000 bail and ordered to report twice at Waterfalls Police Station after he appeared before a Harare magistrate facing charges of flouting tender procedures and abuse of office.

He was arrested Wednesday by officials from the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) and appeared in court after spending two days in police cells

ZACC is good at catching the small kapenta fish one by one! Every time they have caught any reasonable size fish – it is catch and release! They have yet to catch those responsible to the institutionalised wholesale looting of diamonds and other wealth. They are the tiger fish and the untouchables!

Mugabe admitted of the country being “swindled out of US$15 billion in diamond revenue”. He never caught even one swindler. Mnangagwa promise “zero tolerance” on corruption but two and half years later he too has yet to catch one swindler!

Finance Minister, Mthuli Ncube, wrote to IMF, WB and a few other finance houses promise the government will give ZACC extra powers to catch the swindlers, the tiger fish, the untouchables; if they gave Zimbabwe a bailout. IMF and other dismissed the promise with the contempt it rightly deserved. Zimbabwe would not need the bailout because it will recover from the swindlers enough to fund all her needs.

  6. An acute shortage of buses has hampered the fast movement of Zimbabweans repatriated from South Africa with some of the returnees stuck in Beitbridge for the past two days despite having completed formalities to travel to provincial quarantine centres.

Last week 527 border jumpers ejected from South Africa, but arrived at the border post aboard nine buses were yet to be taken to their provinces.

Zimbabwe expects thousands of its citizens who over the years sought economic and political refuge in South Africa but are now being forced back by Covid-19-induced job losses and worldwide uncertainty.

This is really a nightmare! These returnees are being taken to quarantine centres because they MIGHT have the corona virus. But the chaotic and unhygienic condition they are being transported around and living in ever since their arrival are such that if one of them has the virus then by the end of the quarantine period he/she would have passed it on to many others!

It is an outrage that this government has a bloated Police, Army and CIO, well paid and well equipped and yet has failed to deploy all this human and material resources to make such quarantine centres have something as basic as clean running water!

Zanu PF's blundering incompetence has been a milestone round our necks this nation has had to carry these last 40 years. The economic, social and humanitarian challenges brought about by the covod-19 pandemic has left even well organised and rich nations reeling. Zimbabwe will have to face the covid-19 challenges, just like everyone else, and the last thing the nation wants is to do so headed by a blundering and incompetent government.

Zimbabwe must off-load this corrupt and incompetent Zanu PF regime now or else the country will sink into even greater depths of economic poverty and hopelessness. Zanu PF is a serious hinderance to the nation's fight for survival!

  7. Matemadanda: If You Don’t Salute Mnangagwa As President, You’ll Go Hungry.

Zanu PF has been in power these last 40 years and the country has lost its cherished accolade as the breadbasket of he region. Since Mugabe seized the farms to give them to Zanu PF loyalists like Matemadanda the nation has relied on food aid! Command agriculture has only encourage those with the farms to hang-on to the farms and use them as cover to loot.

Mnangagwa rigged the July 2018 elections and only because MDC sold-out during the GNU and failed to implement even one reform.

Zimbabweans are starving right now. Zanu PF's blundering incompetence is making the economic and humanitarian crisis brought about by covid-19 even worse! The prospect of retaining this regime in power one more day is a nightmare! Zanu PF must go for the sake of the country's survival!

  8. SA did not need to ban these returnees because many of them will not survive the ordeal they are facing right now. They are being taken into quarantine centres because it is feared some of them might have covid-19 and yet if just one of them has the virus by the end of the quarantine several of them will have the virus too. There is no attempt at the usual physical distancing and the hygienic conditions in the quarantine centres are so bad the centres are covid-19 hotspots in their own right!

The real shock is Zimbabweans themselves are doing nothing to end this insanity! They will pay dearly for their folly!
