"Legitimacy is irrelevant, ConCourt declared ED winner" - Yeah right, it declared coup "constitutional" too N Garikai

“What are their (opposition) demands? They should tell us their demands. We are not aware of them. These people have been saying a lot, they are playing games with the people,” said Zanu PF spokesperson Simon Khaya Moyo.

Of course, Zanu PF KNOWS exactly what the nation has been demanding for decades now - the implementation of the democratic reforms to ensure next elections are free, fair and credible. The party will never implement any reforms and reform itself out of office.

The closest the party came to getting the dreaded reform implemented was during the 2008 to 2013 GNU when it was forced by SADC to agree in the 2008 Global Political Agreement to the implementation of a raft of democratic reforms designed to dismantle the de facto one-party, Zanu PF, dictatorship. Fortunately for the party, Morgan Tsvangirai and his MDC friends, who were given the task on implementing the reforms in the GNU, turned out to be breathtakingly corrupt and incompetent.

Mugabe was able to bribe the entire MDC leadership to do nothing about implementing the reforms for five years. How Mugabe managed to bribe the entire MDC leadership and keep them under his smelly armpit for five years is a mystery only is so far as it is hard to believe all the MDC leaders can be that corrupt and incompetent. Clearly, they are!

Zanu PF blatantly rigged last year’s elections and happened for decades now. But to make sure the elections are not condemn as a farce, Zanu PF has allowed the MDC and their friends in the opposition camp to win a few seats. As long as the opposition continue to participate in these elections regardless how flawed and illegal Zanu PF knows that both SADC and AU will endorse the process as credible and legal.

“The issue of legitimacy is irrelevant. The matter went to the Concourt (Constitutional Court) and it made a ruling that the legitimate leader is President Mnangagwa,” continued Khaya Moyo.

”What can we do about what was said by the highest court on the land? They want us to reverse that.”

Well, no one expected the Concourt to do anything else other than declare Mnangagwa the winner! After all the same judiciary had ruled that the November 2017 military coup was “justified, legal and constitutional!”

Zanu PF is determined to force the nation and the world at large to accept the party’s as the winner of the 2018 elections and governing party, fait accompli, and we should now all focus on 2023 elections. This is a trap because as long as Zanu PF remains in power the party will never implement any meaningful democratic reforms and so will rig the elections and perpetuate its rule.

Zanu PF rigged last year’s elections, the regime is illegitimate and must step down. We need an independent and competent administration to implement the democratic reforms, dismantle the Zanu PF dictatorship and deliver free, fair and credible elections. Zanu PF must step down to create the political space for the independent administration.

  1. By blatantly rigging last year's elections, failing to end the rampant corruption, etc. President Mnangagwa confirmed to the world that Zimbabwe was still a pariah state and that nothing, nothing at all had changed. All his claim “to do things differently (from the corrupt and tyrannical Mugabe)”; to hold free, fair and credible elections; etc.; were all lies.

As long as Zimbabwe remains a pariah state, it is naive to expect any one to do business with the country and expect any meaningful economic recovery.

Zimbabwe is not going to get out of the economic and political mess and will continue to sink deeper and deeper into this morose until the country finally deal with this curse of rigged elections and pariah state!

  2. Legitimacy is every thing!

The root cause of Zimbabwe's economic meltdown is because the country is a failed state, a pariah, ruled by corrupt, incompetent, vote rigging and murderous thugs. It is very, very difficult to do business in such a chaotic and lawless country and hence the reason so many companies have closed and investors have shied away.

Zanu PF can insist it is legitimate just as the regime got the ConCourt to declare the November 2017 military coup was "legal, justified and constitution"! It is not what Zanu Pf or anyone else say that really matters; it is the truth that carries the day!

  3. How many countries do you who have held free, fair and credible elections and the ruling party has destroyed the country's economy, murdered over 30 000 innocent people and yet still remained in power for 39 years?

MDC had the golden opportunity to implement the democratic reforms which would have stopped Zanu PF rigging elections.

The trouble with some people is they do not know what constitutes free, fair and credible and yet dare to comment on matters they know nothing about!

  4. @ Shannon

"Sanctions against Zimbabwe have become a rallying point around which Southern African Development Community (SADC) governments have coalesced, calling on the US and EU to lift the sanctions on Zimbabwe in order to support the recovery of sectors such as health, agriculture and education.

A resolution at the recent SADC Summit chose October 25 as the day for regional governments to articulate and mobilise support for the sanctions imposed two decades ago on Zimbabwe to be lifted.

SADC has claimed that sanctions against Zimbabwe have ultimately been damaging to the region’s economy. The direct link between sanctions and Zimbabwe’s economic crisis has not, however, been made."SADC leaders sold their souls to the devil by endorsing Zimbabwe's rigged elections and it was easy for Zanu PF to coerce the regional leaders to endorse the lie that Zimbabwe's economic meltdown was caused by sanctions. Everyone knows that corruption and mismanagement are the real causes.

Zimbabwe has been stuck with this corrupt and incompetent Zanu PF regime because the party rigs elections. SADC leaders tried to put an end to this culture of rigging elections by forcing Zanu PF to go into a GNU in 2008 to 2013. Sadly MDC leaders, who were given the task of implementing the reforms failed to get even one reform implemented. SADC leaders were so disappointed with MDC they have reverted to endorsing Zanu PF rigged elections. A foolish decision since it has allowed Zanu PF to rig elections and drag not just Zimbabwe but the whole region into economic meltdown and political instability!
