"Encouraged by reforms under consideration" says WB - ivory tower nonsense, 39 years of consideration N Garikai

Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube held a fruitful meeting with the President of world Bank David Malpass at the recently held United Nations General Assembly in New York.

Posting on Twitter Malpass said, "Very nice to see Zimbabwean Minister of Finance Mthuli Ncube at UNGA. We discussed the importance of currency + economic liberalization and I am encouraged by the legislative reforms under consideration.”

Zimbabwe’s economic is in total meltdown, inflation has surged to 300% according to Gene Leon, the head of of an IMF delegation to Zimbabwe. So Malpass’ twitter is clearly another piece of diplomatic nonsense made by those who know not the consequences of the economic meltdown.

It is no secrete that Zimbabwe’s Minister of Finance, Professor Mthuli Ncube has been to the IMF, WB and all the other finance houses begging for money to bankroll Zimbabwe’s so called reform programmes. He has walked away with his begging bowl empty. If signor Malpass in “encouraged by the legislative reforms under consideration”, as he twittered; then he should have put his money where his mouth is.

Zimbabwe is in a serious economic and political mess and the root cause is the country’s bad governance. Zimbabwe is a pariah state ruled by corrupt, incompetent, vote rigging and murderous thugs. The economy is in total meltdown because it is near impossible to do business in a pariah state with so much waste through mismanagement and corruption, so much chaos because of high inflation and shortages of good and services, so much agro because there is no rule of law, etc.

One assumes that the legislative reforms the WB signor was talking about will address the lawlessness, the economic chaos and the criminal waste of human and material resources and end Zimbabwe’s curse as a pariah state. What the signor should have asked Minister Ncube is why did it this Mnangagwa administration fail to hold free, fair and credible elections last year, as promised?

If signor Malpass thought any Zimbabwean would be please by his twitter, he could not be more wrong. Zimbabweans have been denied a meaningful say in the governance of the country for 39 years and counting and hence the reason they are stuck with this pariah state and the economic meltdown. They are desperate to get this illegitimate Zanu PF dictatorship to step down so they can implement the democratic reforms necessary for free, fair and credible elections.

Zanu PF will never implement any meaningful reforms because the regime will never reform itself out of office!

After 39 years of corrupt and tyrannical Zanu PF misrule only a first class idiot would be “encouraged by the legislative reforms under consideration”!

  1. This is classical Ivory Tower nonsense in capital letters!

Zimbabwe is stuck in this economic and political mess because the country is a pariah state ruled by corrupt, incompetent and murderous thugs who have mastered the art of rigging elections to ensure they stay in power. Zanu PF is not going to reform itself out of office, this is now obvious even to a village idiot. And signor Malpass expect us to be thrilled that the regime has reforms "under consideration"! After 39 years of corrupt tyrannical rule we are to be pleased with that!!!!!

  2. Professor Jonathan Moyo has alleged that the ruling party kills or economically frustrate those who resign from the party.

The former Poliburo member was responding to one John Muketsi who talking of Ambassador Simon Khaya Moyo's press release on Robert Mugabe's burial said, "The author not surprising. He fired ED and then Mugabe. Now working under ED. Asi ku Zanupf hakubvumidzwe ku resigner?"

Prof. Moyo responded, "Ukaresigner muZanuPF unofanira kutiza munyika into exile otherwise vanokuwuraya or squeeze you out of economic existence, to show you who is the Boss!”

Professor Moyo is talking from first hand experience of showing other who is the boss and from one who has received a good doze of the same medicine he dished out so liberally to others. There is not one Zimbabwean who feels sorry for the this seasoned political turn-coat who has sold his own mother for a price and had the chutzpah to boast he had a mother to sell.

Indeed, Zimbabweans are hoping that the regime change the nation has been waiting for comes soon so that the likes of Professor Moyo can be brought back to Zimbabwe from their fox-hole hiding place and face justice!

  3. The UN is the one organisation that has failed the people of Zimbabwe in its failure to call a spade a spade even when the situation demanded it. Last year's rigged Zimbabwe elections being a case in point.

It is all very well for the UN to come out now with this damning report on Zanu PF's failure to uphold the citizen's rights to demonstrate, assemble, express themselves, etc. We all know these are nothing more than the flesh wound of one with broken bones.

Zanu PF blatantly rigged last year's election, has done so for the last 39 years, and whilst all the other international organisations and nations with a democratic reputation worth a spit have condemned the regime for this the UN was as silent as the grave. The escalating barbarism by the regime since the elections is a desperate attempt by the regime to silence all criticism for having rigged the elections and failing to rig economic recovery.

Zimbabwe's problem is not limited to the denial of people's right to demonstrate but is one of bad governance. We need to this Zanu PF dictatorship to step down so we can implement the reforms necessary for free, fair and credible elections. The UN report should be properly reference to the rigged elections and the UN should be calling for Zanu PF to step down. The UN should be fixing the broken bone and not just treat the flesh wound!
