“I know a young Zimbabwean mother who works in Johannesburg. It is a tough and thankless job, cleaning a fancy gym; wiping the sweat from the exercise equipment, making sure every client has a fresh and crisp towel and that the floors, toilets and showers are pristine,” you said.
“I cannot say she loves her job. It is what it is. It puts food on the table and ensures that her children, who are being cared for by a relative back home, lack for nothing. But for her to achieve this most basic human endeavour, she has to live and work in South Africa – an often unwelcoming country.
“She puts up with the xenophobic, racist slurs; the condescending stereotypes, the disrespect, from young and old. She is uprooted and lives with the chilly winds of displacement. Her host country uses bureaucracy, documentation and inefficiency to punish her and remind her that she does not belong.”
There, but for the love of God, goes me! Thank you, Redi, for caring.
We, Zimbabweans, have been our own worst enemies; we have done very little to stop the lunatics who have all but destroyed the country. Yes Zanu PF thugs are ruthless murderers and they have ruled the country with an iron fist. No one needs any reminding of what the regime is capable of; we have just seen it enacted in gruesome detailed in the last week and our history is a catalogue of Zanu PF rigged elections and brutal barbarism.
Still, it is a historic fact that in the last 38 years the country has had many golden opportunities to end the dictatorship, the best chances by a long mile being the 2008 GNU. We have wasted each and every one of these opportunities. The on-going crisis is presenting another opportunity to end the dictatorship but that is being thwarted at every turn by the MDC, Church and NGO leaders, etc. who are determined to have a new GNU composed of the same recycled corrupt and incompetent leaders of yesterday. And, to make things worse, the millions of ordinary Zimbabweans including the gym cleaner in SA and millions of other Zimbabweans in the diaspora are all doing precious little to end the madness!
Indeed, many in the diaspora are cheering and applauding Nelson Chamisa and his MDC friends oblivious of the fact that they are the ones who failed to get even one reform implemented in five years of the last GNU. It is shocking that even now, with benefit of hindsight, there are millions of Zimbabweans who have no clue what happened in the last GNU.
In this day and age who would believe that ignorance is still an epidemic afflicting so many people. The tragedy for Zimbabwe is we have more than our fair share on the naïve, gullible and downright stupid! Worse still, the stupid have a vote!
“After 38 years of appeasing Zanu PF with disastrous consequence that has left the nation in real and immediate danger of tumbling over into the abyss and yet there are some fools still pursuing the policy of appeasement!”
Could not agree with you more! It is shocking that the Catholic Bishops, for example, have concluded that Zanu PF rigged last July’s elections; which is exactly what happened. And yet they are the ones bending over backwards to get Zanu PF and MDC to form the next GNU. They are rewarding Zanu PF for rigging the elections by allowing the party to remain in power or be it by the backdoor. They are bending over backwards to appease Zanu PF thugs at the expense of the long suffering ordinary Zimbabweans.
Zimbabwe has become the stereotypical failed state proving that blacks are incapable of self-governing, whether we Zimbabweans care to admit it or not is irrelevant.
Indeed, the failure to grasp that the Zanu PF dictatorship has failed, even now with all the overwhelming evidence of the economy in ruins and millions living in abject poverty and hopelessness and despair, is itself further proof of our inability to govern ourselves. How can we govern ourselves when we cannot even learn from our past mistakes even after 38 years of making the same blunder!
I am ashamed to admit that I am a Catholic and these busy bodies called Bishops are my church leaders!
After 38 years of Zanu PF blundering from pillar to post dragging the nation deeper and deeper into this hell-on-earth it beggars believe how anyone would still want to give Zanu PF another chance. Mnangagwa has blamed Mugabe for all the looting, vote rigging and murders that Zanu PF has carried out since 1980 to 2017 even though he was at the heart of most of these treasonous acts. Mnangagwa cannot blame anyone but himself for the rigged 2018, the worsen economic situation, the barbarism of 1 st August 2018 and beating, rape and murders of last week.
Zimbabwe is still a pariah state ruled by corrupt, vote rigging and murderous thugs. Of course, the country's much hoped for economic recovery will never happen because no investors would ever want to do business in a pariah state.
The only solution here is for Zanu PF to step down. The party rigged last July's elections, the regime has no mandate to rule and the foolish practice of rewarding the party for rigging the elections should have never been allowed, ever.
“And nothing that is being done has been done in a manner that seeks firstly to mobilise the support of Zimbabweans so that they understand what the game plan is. Things are being imposed on them whereas what we expected from a leadership that understands how to make people tighten their belts is that you make them see the plan and explain it. What we are seeing is an imposition of something that has not been presented or debated to the people and what does that mean? You cannot execute a turnaround plan and not explain to the people for them to understand the nature of the plan and the time frames involved to withstand this pain before things get better,” you said.
“Secondly, in my opinion what has destroyed Zimbabwe is not sanctions even as I concede that sanctions by their nature are meant to hurt but we need to understand they were applied in aptitude of our lack of strategic thinking. More importantly this country has been destroyed by us as Zimbabweans and not by sanctions and two elements in particular — corruption which is at the top of this administration and assembling the best brains in Cabinet. We don’t believe for whatever reason that we must assemble our best team. We don’t have the best team yet we think we can still go to compete and win, something is wrong in our thinking. That is what I call meritocracy, which means you form a team that is based on the talent and experience available to you but we seem to do the opposite.
“The people chose a particular individual, party and a particular programme and elections are supposed to come after every five years. When the five years comes, hopefully the population will have experienced success or failure and then act accordingly. When you say do you have a role, you are now mudding the waters, you are confusing the process. The focus is to continuously hold them to account on the basis of the promises they made. The debate now should be President Mnangagwa you promised such and such things and why is that not happening? Now he is denying that there is violence and yet people are dying. People must go and ask him. There is a framework of how democracy works?”
Dr Nkosana Moyo is one of those Zimbabweans the better one gets to know him the more one is forced to ask what it was that had made one believe he had anything to offer the nation! “The people chose a particular individual, party and a particular programme and elections are supposed to come after every five years,” he says of last July’s elections. So even now with all the benefit of hind sight Moyo still believes the elections were free, fair and credible.
EU election observer mission said the election results “contained numerous errors, they could not be trace or verified and therefore failed to meet acceptable international standards. ZEC failed to produce verified voters’ roll and many of the V11 forms, the forms with the summary of the votes cast for each contestant, although these were legal requirements; hence the reason the process could not be verified and traced.
It was bad enough that Dr Moyo and the rest of the opposition wildebeest herd participated in the elections without something as basic as a verified voters’ roll. It is scandalous that after Zanu PF blatantly rigged the elections anyone should still want to pretend a verified voters’ roll was not important in ensuring free, fair and credible elections.
Zanu PF rigged last July’s elections and thus confirming the country was still a pariah state ruled by thugs. Investors are not interested in investing in pariah states and hence the reason for the country’s worsening economic situation.
The only way out of the economic mess is Zanu PF to step down and allow the nation to implement the democratic reforms leading to the holding of free, fair and credible elections. Dr Moyo’s suggestion that Mnangagwa and his Zanu PF junta should be allowed to serve the full term to 2023 is foolish and must be dismissed with the contempt it deserves. What should the nation suffer this corrupt and murderous rule one more day?
Besides, if Zanu PF remain in office until 2023 then we can be certain that the party would rig those elections too. Zanu PF will never implement any reform designed to stop the party rigging elections. Never! This is why Zanu PF must be forced to step down now!
Sometime people will see and hear but fail to perceive and comprehent because it what NOT what they wanted to see and hear. You are asking "what exactly do you want people to do?" is one such example because the answer was given above.
"By confining themselves to demanding wage increases and never questioning how Zanu PF got into office, the civil servants are unwittingly encouraging Zanu PF to rig elections and get away with it," said the writer.
"If we are serious about ending Zimbabwe’s economic and political crisis then we must tackle the country’s underlaying problem of rigged elections and bad governance with the seriousness the matter demands."
If we are serious about ending this corrupt and tyrannical dictatorship then we must step up to the challenge and "think outside the box". Zanu PF will never delivery an meaningful economic recovery nor will it give up absolute power. The challenge is for us to force the regime to step down or accept the worsening economic situation; it is set to get worse of that we can be certain!
So Dr Nkosana Moyo believes last July's elections were free, fair and credible? ZEC failed to produce something as basic as a verified voters' roll so no one, other than ZEC and Zanu PF officials, knows who voted, how many times some people were able to vote, etc. ZEC failed to release some of the V11 forms so, again, no one other than ZEC and Zanu PF officials know were some of the votes assigned to the contestants came from. How is it possible that someone can still argue that the elections were free, fair and credible!!!
How is it possible that a presidential candidate does not even have the common sense to know what constitute free, fair and credible elections!!!! No wonder the country is in a mess!
If there is one thing Zanu PF leaders have proven over and over again in these last 38 years it is that they are breathtakingly corrupt, incompetent, vote rigging and murderous thugs. Over a year ago, when Mnangagwa took over from Mugabe he has tried to lay all the blame for the regime's catalogue of failures and crimes on Mugabe's door and present himself as squeaky clean although he is the one who carried out most of Mugabe's dirtiest jobs. Some people were naive and gullible enough to believe him.
Still, after just over a year in power Mr squeaky clean has already blatantly rigged the elections; has failed to arrest even one of the swindlers responsible for the wholesale looting of diamond revenue adding to $15 billions, by Mugabe's own admission; he has failed to arrest the economic meltdown; his hands are already dripping with the blood of innocent Zimbabweans, seven shoot dead on 1 st August and 25 in last week's street protests; etc. No one absolutely no one has any doubt that this Mnangagwa led Zanu PF dictatorship is corrupt, incompetent, etc., etc.
So it is therefore that anyone with half a brain should even believe for one second that this corrupt and incompetent, etc., etc. regime can ever get us out of the political and economic mess the regime has landed us into beggars belief. What else does Zanu PF have to do to convince these people that the party is corrupt, incompetent, etc., etc.!!!
I do not believe even the Catholic Bishops are that naive and stupid to believe Zanu PF would play an positive role in the proposed GNU. They are asking the thugs to be included because they fear if they are left out they will make Zimbabwe ungovernable.
The regime has already destroyed the nation's economy so that 90% are unemployed, 3/4 are living on US$1.00 or less a day, most basic services have all but collapsed, etc. It is these economic hardships that have triggered the recent stay-away, street protests and the brutal crack down by the regime. Since there is no hope of any meaningful economic recovery, we can be 100% certain that the economic meltdown will get worse and, equally, we can be 100% certain that the stay-away, street protests and the security crack down will all return and be more intense than ever before. In short 38 years of Zanu PF misrule have made Zimbabwe ungovernable and the situation is set to get worse.
It is 38 years of appeasing Zanu PF that has landed the nation into this mess and seeking to appease the regime further will NOT get us out of the mess but drag us even deeper.
What the country needs is the courage admit appeasement has not work and the resolve to end this madness. Zanu PF has held the nation to ransom for 38 years it is irresponsible to allow this to continue even one more day!
Mnangagwa and his junta rigged last July's elections, they know it, the Bishops know it and anyone with half a brain knows it. The regime is illegitimate and it must step down to allow the nation to implement the democratic reforms necessary to restore the individual freedoms and rights including the right to free, fair and credible elections and the right to life itself.
Zanu PF must be told in no uncertain terms that its attempts to hold on to power when it has no electoral mandate is blackmail. No nation worth its salt will allow itself to be blackmailed!
When Emmerson Mnangagwa took over the leadership of Zanu-PF and became the head of state there was a perfectly choreographed plan to carve out his image as a reformer.
He would be presented to us as a man with a tainted past but who had completely changed his ways and was willing to chart a different course from his predecessor and mentor for over half a century, Robert Mugabe.
Newspapers dedicated acres of space to tell us how pragmatic he was in his ways and that he had a sound understanding of how business works.
In his speeches he made all the right noises, just exactly what the world wanted to hear from a new leader taking over a nation which had been condemned to the pits of hell for the three decades that it was under the despotic rule of Mugabe. Mnangagwa waxed lyrical about how he would seek to reengage with the international community to help get Zimbabwe back into the community of nations.
If the truth be told, one had to be very naive, to say the least, to believe that Mnangagwa and his fellow November 2017 coup plotters would risk life and limb to wrestle power from Mugabe only to risk losing it 8 months latter in a free, fair and credible elections. Remember it was Mnangagwa and the same junta members how had spearheaded all the looting, vote rigging and wanton violence that had kept Mugabe in power throughout the 37 years. It was asking for too much to think they would not resort to these dirty tricks to win the elections again; more so when their were the principle beneficiary and, to crown it all, losing the elections was certain to lead to them being charged for the coup!
Once Mnangagwa and his junta friends had agreed on the need to kept the dictatorial power to secure electoral victory it was a slippery slope, they ended up keeping all the dictatorial powers, the wholesale looting, the lot!
Zanu PF change its figure head, replaced Mugabe with Mnangagwa, but otherwise the dictatorship remained unchanged! Zimbabwe was a pariah state before the November 2017 military coup and remained a pariah state after the coup ruled, other than removal of Mugabe and one or two others, by the same corrupt, vote rigging and murderous thugs.
If Zimbabwe is ever going to end the dangerous spinal into the worsening economic meltdown, street protests and brutal oppression by the regime determined too stay in power at all cost; then Zanu PF must step down. The regime have no electoral mandate to govern since it rigged the elections.
By stepping down Zanu PF will allow the nation the political space and time to implement the democratic reforms designed to revived the corrupted state institutions and restore the individual freedoms and rights necessary for a healthy and functioning democratic system of government.
Zanu PF has held the nation to ransom for the last 38 years; this cannot be allowed to continue.
South Africa opposition party, the Democratic Alliance (DA) has revealed that it will approach the UN, International Criminal Court (ICC) and parliament over the political and humanitarian crisis in Zimbabwe.
Addressing the media in South Africa on Monday, the youthful DA leader Mmusi Maimane said:Today, [Zimbabwe] finds itself on the verge of a humanitarian crisis.
Firstly, in my capacity as chairperson of the Southern African Partnership for Democratic Change (SAPDC), I will pay a working visit to Zimbabwe this week.
I will meet with the current opposition leader, Nelson Chamisa, and former MDC leader, Tendai Biti, among others. The purpose of this visit is to seek practical solutions to the ongoing crisis and garner support across the region for much-needed intervention in Zimbabwe.
I agree with DA leader, Mmusi Maimane 100% that Zanu PF must be taken to task for the party barbaric acts. No one should ever be treated as if they were a diseased dog worse still when the people have every right to voice their concerns on such pressing matters as the country’s worsening economic situation.
Zanu PF is responsible for the economic meltdown and is using brute force to silence all people. The regime wants the people to suffer and die without say a word; they are not sheep!
Does Mmusi Maimane know that it was Nelson Chamisa, Tendai Biti and the rest of the MDC Alliance leaders’ fault that Zimbabwe is still stuck in this mess? They had is what I would like to know? They failed to implement even one reforms designed to stop Zanu PF rigging the elections during the 2008 to 2013 GNU because they are corrupt, incompetent and sell-outs. How can sell-outs who are, per se, part of the problem also be part of the solution.
Zanu PF landed us into this mess, true, but it is also true that MDC Alliance are many golden opportunities to end the Zanu PF dictatorship but failed to do so because they are corrupt and incompetent. Zimbabwe cannot afford the luxury of the binary mentality of seeing Zanu PF as bad and MDC Alliance as good regardless of the latter’s pathetic performance record.
The solution for Zimbabwe is for the country to appoint an interim administration which will be tasked to implement the democratic reforms to ensure free, fair and credible elections. It will be naive to assume MDC Alliance will ever accomplish this. They did not even have the common sense to demand that ZEC must release a verified voters roll before the elections even thou this is a legal requirement; for Pete’s sake.
Zimbabweans want a solution to end the crippling economic and political crisis and not yet another fudge! MDC Alliance leaders are corrupt and incompetent this is a historic fact to get them back into government just because Zanu PF is worse or that there is no one else is a feeble excuse.
First let as get a the reforms implemented and quality leaders will emerge. You do not catch fish in a sewage pond, the oppressive autocratic system Zanu PF imposed on the nation is but a sewage pond and hence the reason there are no quality leaders on both sides of the political divide. Implementing the democratic reforms will end the stifling political environment, drain the sewage pond and allow clean oxygenated water to flow and fish with return too!
Would you still refuse to sign the petition if you were one of the people who was beaten and/or raped or, worse still, one of your own relatives was shot dead?
You are very naive and foolish because anyone with any common sense would know the longer Zanu PF stays in power the worse the economic situation is going to get and therefore the cycle of violence is set to get worse. If you think people are going to be beaten into silence so that they die quietly like sheep in a slaughter house; you need you head emptied of the mud!
In the escalating violence your relatives will be caught in the dragnet. We already know this Zanu PF regime is full of vote rigging and ruthless murderers it is wiser to force them to step down now before the drag the nation even deeper into this hell-on-earth!
Exiled former G40 Kingpin Professor Jonathan Moyo has vowed that he will not apologise for the enactment of two laws that are largely repressive in Zimbabwe; the Public Order and ad Security Act and the Access to Information Privacy Protection Act.
Writing on micro blogging site Twitter on Monday Moyo said, "I will never apologise for POSA as I had nothing to do with it. "
Moyo further revealed that the POSA bill was taken away from him, edited before being unanimously adopted by the 2002 parliament which was composed on opposition MDC MPs. "And I will never apologise for AIPPA as the record is clear the Bill was taken away from me and unanimously adopted by Parliament in 2002 and amended in 2007 by agreement between Zanu PF and MDC when I was not in govt." said Moyo.
Professor Moyo cannot deny that as a senior member of Zanu PF and one of its most influential strategist he played his part in the establishment, retention defence of the the de facto one party dictatorship. He cannot deny that he never lifted a finger to have any of the offensive and oppressive laws scrapped although he had many, many opportunities to do so.
Professor Moyo cannot deny that he had the choice to resign from Zanu PF is protest against the regime’s oppressive excesses. He never resigned because he too was benefiting from the absolute power and the spoils of power.
Anyone who is trying to blame him for one specific act such as POSA or AIPA is doomed to fail because the Professors is such a dishonest character he would lie under oath so what more when he is not.
"What has he done for the South African people who are struggling with racism and still feeling the pinch of apartheid? What has he done to ensure that Blacks have equal chances and opportunities in South Africa? No foreigner will solve Zimbabwean problems. Zimbabweans will." Motivational speaker Pablo Chimusoro commented on Maimane's visit.
This kind of nonsense cannot go unchallenged. Even if Maimane has done nothing for the people of South Africa are you suggesting he should not voice his concern over the cold blooded murder of Zimbabweans by their own government?
Zimbabwe is in a serious economic and political mess and one of our own making too. It is therefore rich to be claiming that no one else but ourselves can solve our problems when we are literally drowning in our own s***t.
With such braindead people like Chimusoro it is little wonder the country is in a mess! Even with the country standing on the very edge of the abysss, the idiot blissful cheering the Zanu PF thugs and murderers along!
Law Society of Zimbabwe (LSZ) has slammed Prosecutor-General (PG) Kumbirai Hodzi after he alleged legal practitioners dominate the list of corrupt officials, suggesting the allegations are exaggerated and disparaging in nature.
who was on Wednesday sworn in as the substantive PG, said in an interview with State media that the most heinous corruption is emanating from the legal practitioners.
What we saw happened in the Con-Court regarding the legal challenge of the election results speaks volumes of the rot in our legal system!
Yes Mnangagwa and Zanu PF have failed to deliver the Zimbabwe we had been dreaming of and, after 38 years of holding the nation to ransom and having dragged the nation into the depths of poverty and despair, we have only one thing to say to them - bugger off! The nation does not want you in the interim administration or in any public office position - just go!

ReplyDeleteStill, after just over a year in power Mr squeaky clean has already blatantly rigged the elections; has failed to arrest even one of the swindlers responsible for the wholesale looting of diamond revenue adding to $15 billions, by Mugabe's own admission; he has failed to arrest the economic meltdown; his hands are already dripping with the blood of innocent Zimbabweans, seven shoot dead on 1 st August and 25 in last week's street protests; etc.
ReplyDeleteHe would be presented to us as a man with a tainted past but who had completely changed his ways and was willing to chart a different course from his predecessor and mentor for over half a century, Robert Mugabe.
ReplyDeleteAddressing the media in South Africa on Monday, the youthful DA leader Mmusi Maimane said:Today, [Zimbabwe] finds itself on the verge of a humanitarian crisis.
ReplyDeleteYou are very naive and foolish because anyone with any common sense would know the longer Zanu PF stays in power the worse the economic situation is going to get and therefore the cycle of violence is set to get worse.
ReplyDeleteWriting on micro blogging site Twitter on Monday Moyo said, "I will never apologise for POSA as I had nothing to do with it.
ReplyDeleteThis kind of nonsense cannot go unchallenged.
ReplyDeletewho was on Wednesday sworn in as the substantive PG, said in an interview with State media that the most heinous corruption is emanating from the legal practitioners.
