MDC-T "has huge support base" says Tsvangirai - then why bother forming a coalition. N Garikai

“They (coalition) are different from the one in Britain which was done after the elections. Ours is different because you do not know qualitatively who is bringing more people. But why tichida (want) coalition is because we do not talk of quantity as we already have a huge support base,” Morgan Tsvangirai told his supporters in Gweru.

“The reason is that hatidi (don’t want) international community inozoti blamer kuti hamuna coalition se opposition ndosaka makadyiwa. (you lost because you don’t have a coalition).

“We are doing this in the national interests.

This is nonsensical for the following reasons:

1)   If MDC-T has a “huge support base” already then why should the party need to go into a coalition with any other party? Why would a party with a huge support base lose an elections?

2)   The only way a party with a huge support base will ever lose an election is if the said election is rigged. Why would anyone blame MDC for not having been in a coalition after losing a rigged election?

3)   The international community, especially SADC, blamed Tsvangirai and MDC for participating in the 2013 elections with no democratic reforms in place. MDC was warned, with no reforms in place, the elections would be rigged.

4)   Since the rigged July 2013 elections MDC has promised not to contest any future elections until reforms are implemented. Not even one reform has been implemented since and yet MDC is gearing to contest the next elections contrary to its own “No reform, no election!” resolution.

5)   The whole world will blame MDC for the madness of contesting yet another flawed elections. Tsvangirai is using the formation of a coalition as a smoke screen to hide behind the folly of contesting yet another flawed election. No one will be fooled by the smoke screen. No one!

6)   What did the nation gain by MDC contesting in the 2013 flawed elections? Tsvangirai should name even one thing.

7)   What did the nation lose by being dragged into a flawed 2013 election? Everything! It allowed Zanu PF back into power with all the political and economic consequences of having the corrupt and tyrannical regime dictating the nation’s destiny. But worst of all, by participating MDC got Zanu PF off the hook of implementing the reforms.

8)   By contesting next year’s elections MDC will once again allow Zanu PF back into power and again allowing the regime to get away with not implementing the reforms. The nation must put its foot down and demand that Tsvangirai and his sell-out MDC friend honour their “No reform, no election!” resolution!

9)  Contesting another flawed election is insane!

  1. Construction on a new $46 million parliament to start in August 2017.

In a country failing to provide the bear necessities of life such as clean drinking water and health services to the majority of its people; how can we justify this?

  2. Reputations are like a beautiful house, they take time and lot of hard work to build but one moment of sheer madness can reduce the whole beautiful edifice to a pile of rubble and dust. Whatever reputation Arthur Mutambara had, he completely destroyed it himself during the GNU years.

The GNU was set up to implement the democratic reforms, first and foremost. Not even one reform was implemented, not one, because President Mugabe had conned the whole MDC leadership into believing the tyrant had accepted them all into the exclusive ruling elite club and therefore reforms were not necessary. The tyrant had mocked MDC leaders for trying to extend the life of the GNU beyond the five years, especially those like Mutambara and Welshman Ncube who had been given ministerial post although they had lost the 2008 elections and/or were certain to lose the 2013 elections.

“Write your own story, play to the beat of your own drum,” writes Zimpaper sycophant in praise of Mutambara.

And whose crazy drum beat was Arthur dancing to throughout the five years of the GNU?

History will remember Arthur Mutambara as the corrupt, incompetent and megalomania MDC leader with an ego as large and empty as Mugabe’s silo after the white farm seizure madness!

  3. US Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Chris Dell, said Tsvangirai was “a flawed and indecisive character with poor judgement”. He was right. But I do not think he ever imagined that Tsvangirai would turn out to be such a complete idiot and a disaster.

"The reason is that hatidi (don't want) international community inozoti blamer kuti hamuna coalition se opposition ndosaka makadyiwa. (you lost because you don't have a coalition),” Tsvangirai said.

This is total rubbish! SADC leaders advised MDC not to contest the 2013 elections without implementing the reforms first and they have certainly blamed him for ignoring their advice. The Western countries did not lift the targeted sanctions against President Mugabe and his cronies after the 2013 elections because of all the evidence of vote rigging. If there are any countries out there encouraging him to form the coalition and will be disappointed if he does not then it must be the Israelis through Nikuv, the Chinese or the Russians (they becoming experts in that).

Tsvangirai is just one of those mentally challenged individuals who have found themselves in a position of power and influence and have become so big headed they now think they are the fountain of wisdom, they are infallible. For all his 17 years in politics he has failed to deliver even one democratic change, although he has had many, many golden opportunities to do so. He has led the MDC and the nation from blunder into another.

Contesting the 2013 election was a complete disaster for the nation.

SADC’s advice not to contest any elections without implementing the reforms first is still valid and is still on the table! But because Tsvangirai is a flawed character totally incapable of taking advice or learning from his own mistakes. Contesting next year’s elections with no reforms in place will be a disaster for Zimbabwe but, knowing Tsvangirai as we do, this is a disaster that is going to happen.

Up to now, President Mugabe and his Zanu PF thugs were the root cause of Zimbabwe’s economic and political crisis and the tragic human suffering and loss of life. Now we must factor in Tsvangirai and his equally corrupt and incompetent MDC members; they have long seized to be a solution to the nation’s problems, they are now an integral part of the problem.

Indeed, Mugabe is now relying on Tsvangirai’s breath-taking incompetence to keep him in power!

  4. If Zanu PF is so sure of winning next year's election then why has the party refused to implement the reforms to ensure free and fair elections?

We are not going to have people frog marched to Zanu PF rallies and to vote for Zanu PF and then be told the election was free, fair and credible.

Just because MDC failed to implement even one reform does not mean that we must all forget our hopes and dreams of free and fair elections and good governance. The real fight in Zimbabwe is not over who wins flawed elections but rather a fight to stop to implement reforms and stop the vote rigging once and once for all.

The fight for free, fair and credible is the fight of our generation, the fight will go on until all our individual freedoms and rights are fully restored and guaranteed! It is not just the economic hardship and political tyranny we are having to deal with; many, many people are dying unnecessarily; that is too high a price to pay by a long mile. In this fight for free and fair elections defeat is not an option.

No matter how many times Zanu PF rigs the elections and drag us down, we will get up again and fight until we have free, fair and credible elections and our human dignity back.

"Zanu-PF is the only game in town. There is only one person who is popular in the country and that is RG Mugabe. As the Zanu-PF Youth League, we are no longer counting the opposition. We are now waiting for the swearing-in ceremony next year because Zanu-PF has already won the 2018 election," said Zanu PF Youth leader, Kudzai Chipanga.

Yes Zanu PF’s fight with Tsvangirai was over a long time ago but Chipanga and Mugabe will soon learn that the real fight is with those demanding free and fair elections and that is one hell of a fight they will soon know they are bound to lose.

  5. If the elections were free, fair and credible there is no doubt that Zanu PF would have lost the 2013, 2008, etc. elections regardless who their challenger happened to be. Mugabe is a corrupt and murderous tyrant and given half a chance in a free vote, of course, the people would have booted him and his regime out.

When Zanu PF leaders like Professor Jonathan Moyo say “You can’t expect us to reform ourselves out of power”; for once in that corrupt political turn-coat’s career, he is being bluntly honest.

The key to meaningful political change in Zimbabwe is by implementing the democratic reforms to ensure free, fair and credible elections.

Without doubt, the best opportunity in the last 37 years to end the corrupt and tyrannical Mugabe dictatorship was during the 2008 to 2013 GNU. All Morgan Tsvangirai and his MDC friends had to do was implement the democratic reforms which SADC had forced Mugabe to agree to in the 2008 Global Political Agreement.

“Simbi inorohwa ichapisa!” (Strike the iron whilst it is still hot!) MDC failed to even hit the iron even once, they failed to implement even one reform in five years of the GNU. Not one!

Tsvangirai and the opposition would defeat Mugabe and Zanu PF in the next elections; regardless of the former’s own corrupt and incompetent track record because the latter’s track record is even worse; but on one condition – the elections are free, fair and credible. Sadly for the nation, Tsvangirai is so corrupt and incompetent he has completely failed to grasp the critical importance of free and fair election, even with the benefit of hindsight.

The nation is so desperate to get rid of Mugabe and Zanu PF thugs, they would vote for “a donkey rather than vote for Mugabe”, Professor Moyo once said during one of his spell out of Zanu PF. With all that political capital, why Tsvangirai is wasting time on coalition building only goes to show just how utterly useless he is! That the idiot should even believe that coalition is a substitute to implementing reforms goes to show how hopelessly lost he is!

Tsvangirai will never deliver free, fair and credible elections in Zimbabwe, this is a fundamental fact Zimbabweans must now accept as a matter of course. He does not understand what the democratic reforms are about, he never did and never will. It is naïve to expect him to deliver something he does not know or understand, particularly when he has to get the reforms past a cunning fox like Robert Mugabe!

  6. @ Ndaba Nhuku

“A party should never ever force a leadership on its followers! (Zanu PF shouldn’t force Mnangagwa on the masses!)” you say.

Well Mugabe has successfully imposed himself on the party, Zanu PF, and the nation for 37 years and counting. You can go back through the history of Zanu and you will find that Mugabe has never been elected by the party members in a free, fair and credible election. The few occasions when the party was supposed to have an election the tyrant has always corrupted the process so that it was only his name that was in the hat and so instead of an election it was always a coronation!

Mugabe has gone one step further by usurping the party members’ right to elect the other senior party leaders. The Zanu PF constitution called for party congress to elect the top four post in the party but having manoeuvred his way to the top job, he also saw to it that he filled the other senior posts with his appointees! The weaker the individual the greater the reason Mugabe would want him/her promoted because they are easier to control. Mugabe is not just a megalomania but a control freak to boot!

Imposing himself on the nation was a piece of cake!

What Mugabe has shown; in all these last 37 years of tyrannical rule which, as things stand, he is set to extend next year by another landslide victory; if you can rig the electoral process, you can impose yourself or whoever you wish and will get away with it every time!

The only important lesson Zimbabweans should learn from the UK elections is the pressing need for Zimbabwe to implement the democratic reforms to ensure free and fair elections BEFORE the next elections otherwise we will have yet another mockery of an election in which the ordinary people are once again denied a meaningful say!
