Arnold Schwarzenegger’s voice carries a weight shaped by history, and in one of his most talked-about messages, he drew a powerful line between his past and what he believes he is seeing in America today. Growing up in post-war Austria, he witnessed firsthand how propaganda, lies, and blind loyalty could damage families and societies. He has often spoken about how those experiences shaped his views on truth, responsibility, and leadership.
Following the Capitol riot, Schwarzenegger released a video that quickly spread across the world. In it, he didn’t hold back. He described Donald Trump as “a failed leader” and warned about the dangers of misinformation and division. By referencing Kristallnacht, he was not making a casual comparison—he was pointing to a moment in history that symbolized how unchecked hate and deception can escalate into something far more dangerous.
What made his message stand out was not just the criticism, but the perspective behind it. As a Republican and a former governor of California, Schwarzenegger’s words came from within the political sphere, not outside of it. He argued that misleading people for power crosses a line that can have lasting consequences for a nation. At the same time, he added that in his view, political figures who rely on division eventually lose relevance, saying Trump would become “as irrelevant as an old tweet.”
The video reached millions, sparking intense reactions from all sides. Some praised his willingness to speak out, while others strongly disagreed. But regardless of where people stood, the message reignited conversations about leadership, accountability, and the impact of rhetoric in politics.
Now, as political tensions in the United States remain high, his words are circulating once again. It highlights how certain moments don’t just pass—they come back, especially when the issues behind them are still unresolved. For many, this isn’t just about one leader or one event. It’s about how history repeats itself when warnings are ignored, and how voices shaped by experience can still influence the present.
In Africa we have been fighting our own wars, our failed leaders are using white colonial oppression to hide their failures and the people have swallowed the bait, hook, line and sinker! Africa has suffered the ill effects of bad governance and it has been near impossible to address these problems because those in positions of power and authority have kept the populous fearful of the imagined white oppressors threatening to recolonise Africa.
In America the people can get rid of their failed leaders, in Africa we are stuck with them. Mnangagwa been in government since independence in 1980. In 2017 he became President on the cocktail of a military coup and has rigged 2018 and 2023 elections to stay in office. And now he is driving the Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3 to extend his stay in office beyond the stipulated two term limits!

ReplyDeleteZimbabwe's political discourse has been marred by the culture of political violence, we saw this in the recent public hearing on Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3. (CAB3). Why has political violence remained part and parcel of our political discourse?
Answer: Both Zanu PF and MDC/CCC leaders have had many golden opportunities to end the curse of political violence and each wasted them all out of greed and breathtaking incompetency.
MDC/CCC leaders have participated in flawed and illegal elections out of greed. They knew that Zanu PF was rigging the process and that participating would give the regime legitimacy. Biti & co. are participating in CAB3 process knowing fully well that Zanu PF would rig (the violence and chaos of the public hearing stage has come as no surprise) and that participating would give Zanu PF legitimacy!
The only real surprise here is that the nation has once again been conned to participate in the flawed process even after 46 years of rigged elections. 46 years!
Zanu PF has failed to maintain the infrastructure it inherited from Smith and still many are supporting CAB3 because they are being conned into believing repair the damage the regime has caused these last 46 years in the remaining 4 years to 2030! We really are a naive and gullible lot!
ReplyDeleteCAB3 will give Zanu PF even more dictatorial powers, for one thing the bill will give the ruling elite 7, up from present 5, years to loot before the people recall them through elections. Whatever some people think the nation will save from having elections every 7 years instead of every 5 years it is nothing compared to what the nation will lose stuck with corrupt and utterly useless leaders for 7 years!

ReplyDeleteAfrica politics are a dirty game because even the most basic rules such as having a verified voters' role are violated with impunity. The failure to demand free, fair and credible elections have only benefited those who have every thing to gain from rigged elections and their side kicks who get the few gravy train seats the regime offers as bait to entice the opposition to participate in the election no matter how flawed the process get.
It is insane to participate in flawed elections to give vote rigging Zanu PF legitimacy and perpetuate one's own suffering, especially after 46 years and counting of rigged elections. The real idiots are those who will believe idiotic lies time and time again!

People like you have a personality cult mentality, you are so defensive of your leader you immediately conclude that any one who dared to hold Chamisa to account is a Zanu PF supporter. Do not blame me for who you are!

ReplyDelete“Wilbert, dai wapota hako uchimbomira kuti nyorera those long and boring essays woitawo seldomly becoz what you write is poisonous as of yesteryear. Tinzwirewo tsitsi mekutimwisa huroyi kwauri kuita pagroup.”
So who has done the nation greater harm me or Chamisa? Chamisa lied about plugging vote rigging loop holes conning the nation to participate in flawed elections giving Zanu PF legitimacy and perpetuating the dictatorship. Or me who is warning the nation against the sheer folly of believing Chamisa’s idiotic lies?
Only a nincompoop would argue that Chamisa has done the nation a great disservice. Not surprisingly only the nincompoop would clamour for me to be silence and let Chamisa go scot-free!
Of course, I will never be silence by a moron - he/she can fume and froth all day and all night! Chamisa is not just a mortal but a corrupt, incompetent, a liar and conman to boot. I will continue to say it from the roof top because it is true and the there 2 millions morons who need to hear it!

Delete“My friend its wastege to compare you and Chamisa, you are known to this group and few newspapers unlike Chamisa who is known worldwide for being the person to lead Zimbabwe and being honest and more intelligent kudarika iwe musuki weMbwe home and abroad.
You talk to much to this group and you don't have anything to offer only shouting to the few who tells you the truth. On this group you were told to form your on party and lay it to the people and see who is bigger and better iwe mbwa iwe naChamisa. Go hang yourself.”
You did not answer the questions asked because even an idiot like you know Chamisa is a corrupt, incompetent, a liar and a conman.
The tragedy for Zimbabwe is that there are millions of morons just like you who think Chamisa is a demigod and, worst of all, the morons have the voice and a vote! Morons are not going to follow idiots like Chamisa blindly and hold the whole nation to ransom from henceforth!
