Zimbabwe is a failed state and there are many, many reasons why we are a failed nation. One of those reasons has to be our reluctance to acknowledge a problem much less to do something about it.
"If blacks are to rule themselves people in towns will walk on sewage until they believe it's normal, all the gains from colonisation will varnish, infrastructure will collapse, roads will be impassable, trains will kill ppl until they're abandoned as an unsafe mode of transport, hospitals will be closed, farms will be grabbed and nothing to feed the nation,” predicted Ian Smith in November 1975.
At the time many people, especially blacks, dismissed the remark as just another one of his white supremacist remarks.
Today, 45 years after independence; sadly, many of Smith’s doom and gloom predictions have come to past. Many Zimbabweans are not only walking on sewage but drinking it too. It is common knowledge that Harare’s dilapidated sewage system, like that of many other towns and cities across the land, has been spilling raw sewage straight into the city’s water supply source. And - here is the nub of it - many “believe it’s normal”!
Zimbabwe is a failed state because we have been stuck with this corrupt and tyrannical Zanu PF for 45 years and counting. Zanu PF has blatantly rigged the elections these last 45 years, denying Zimbabweans a meaningful say in the governance of the country.
“One man, one vote!” was one of the many promises the nation fought for and many died for in the struggle for independence. A fundamental right Zanu PF snatched away from the people on the eve of the nation’s independence; without so much as by your leave!
Zanu PF’s campaign message was simple enough - if Zanu PF does not win the 1980 elections, the bush war would continued. The people had no choice but to vote to end the war. It would have been foolhardy to argue looking up the business end of an AK47 refile! And with that vote, the people lost their right to a meaningful say in the governance of the country.
The right to free, fair and credible elections, is much more than just a fundamental right. It is the essence of good governance.
Zimbabwe is a failed state because Zanu PF has blatantly rigged elections and for 45 years and counting we have lived every day with the consequence of bad governance and “believe it normal”! What is more, it has always been within our power to cure ourselves of the curse of rigged elections and bad governance.
Yes, even back then in 1980 when Zanu PF turned the AK47 refiles on us, we should have made a determined stand by voting for anyone else and NOT the party; just to protect our fundamental freedoms and rights including the right to “One man, One vote!”
“He who would trade liberty for some temporary security, deserves neither liberty nor security,” said Benjamin Franklin, American Scientist and Statesman.
In 1980 Zimbabweans traded their freedoms and rights to end the bush war. Zanu PF thugs got what the wanted and three years later launched the Gukurahundi massacre, they were back demanding even more. And they have, over the years robbed the nation blind, terrorised the nation and killed over 40 000.
The country’s economy is in ruins and millions of Zimbabweans live in abject poverty. Millions more have left the country as economic and/or political refugees.
The pressure to end the curse of rigged elections and bad governance is palpable. It is unforgivable to allow the madness of Zanu PF dictatorship and the tragic human suffering it has brought to continue.
We cannot stop Zanu PF rigging the 2028 elections, there is no chance of getting any meaningful democratic reforms implement before then. Zanu PF will never implement any reforms and reform itself out of power, especially now when the regime has the political upper hand.
We cannot stop Nelson Chamisa and his MDC/CCC fiends participating in the flawed 2028 elections out of greed, as they have done in the past. When MDC/CCC leaders failed to implement any reforms during the 2008 to 2013 GNU, they decided to participate giving vote rigging Zanu PF legitimacy for a share of the spoils of power.
What we can do is make sure Chamisa & co. do not com millions of Zimbabweans to participate in the flawed elections. Chamisa lied about CCC winning 2023 elections because he “plugged all the vote rigging loop holes. #Godisinit!” He even evoke the name of God!
Our task is to get Zimbabweans to admit Chamisa lied to them about stopping Zanu PF rigging the elections, to con them to participate in the 2023 elections. And that they must not allow themselves to be conned to participate in the 2028 elections on the basis of another idiotic lie.
Stop millions from participating in flawed 2028 elections are we will deny Zanu PF legitimacy.
Both SADC and AU election observers judged the 2023 elections as flawed and illegal. They would have gone the full-hog and denies Zanu PF legitimacy if millions had not participated in the flawed elections.
Nearly 2 million voted for Chamisa and nearly the same number in the diaspora supported participating. This madness must stop. It is insane to keep participating in flawed election, “so flawed, so illegal the logical step is to withdraw,” as David Coltart has admitted. It is insane to participate to give Zanu PF legitimacy and perpetuate the nation’s suffering.
@ Godfrey
ReplyDeleteThey were conned and the whole nation is suffering because of their stupidity. If you think the village idiots are going to be let off the hook so they can continue to hold the whole nation to ransom - think again!
@ Ruhanya
ReplyDeleteIn a thought-provoking analysis sparked by Nelson Chamisa's recent interview on ZiFM with DJ MISSRED, political analyst Dr. Pedzisai Ruhanya has raised serious questions about the viability of Chamisa's vision to build a "movement" rather than a traditional political party to lead Zimbabwe's next government.
Chamisa has articulated ambitions to construct a movement that transcends conventional party politics, positioning it as the vehicle for national leadership. However, Dr. Ruhanya contends that such a concept is fundamentally at odds with Zimbabwe's entrenched political system, which is deeply bureaucratic and institutionally driven.
Addressing Chamisa directly, Ruhanya emphasizes that the critique is born not of hatred or disrespect but out of a sincere desire for Chamisa's success and the broader democratic mission.
"The continued aversion to institutions, structures, and collective leadership is politically fatal. In short, the idea of a movement is failed," Ruhanya asserts.
Chamisa’s idea of the Citizen Movement with no constitution, no structure and no elected leaders is a carry over from his CCC party. He insisted on having no constitution, etc. for CCC because he feared that would open the door to infiltration. And yet soon after the 2023 elections we were all surprised with the ease with which Sengezo Tshabangu recalled many elected CCC leaders causing panic and confusion with in the party and the nation at large. Tshabangu was able to successful claim that he was the party’s Secretary General on the basis of the same “political ambiguity” that made Chamisa himself president of the party. The chaos and confusion was so deep rooted that Chamisa himself could not sort out the mess and abandoned CCC in a huff.
However people should not be surprised that Chamisa wants the new political party to have no constitution, no structure and no elected officials; repeating the same foolish mistakes that allowed CCC to be infiltrated. Chamisa is a creature of habit and repeating the same idiotic mistakes is one of his signature habits.
He conned his followers to participate in flawed 2018 elections claiming MDC A “had stringent measures to stop Zanu PF rigging elections.” He repeated the same idiotic lie in 2023 claim he had “plugged all the Zanu PF vote rigging loop holes. #Godisinit!” He even evoke the name of God.
Having Citizen Movement with not structure, etc. is “politically fatal”, true but only fatal to the ordinary people who are desperate for meaningful political change. Not fatal to Zanu PF and Chamisa and his associates who will rig the elections and get political legitimacy and Chamisa & co. will get the usual few gravy train seats reward!
@ Chief Ndiweni
ReplyDeleteYou are lying, 2023 was NOT the first time SADC and AU condemned Zimbabwe’s elections, they did that in 2008 leading to the formation of the GNU. The primary purpose of the GNU was to implement the democratic reforms and thus end the curse of rigged elections. MDC leaders sold out and failed to implement even one reform. But what would a nincompoop like you know about all that.
Still, Chamisa lied about plugging all the vote rigging loop hole to con you and 2 million others to participate in flawed 2023 elections to give Zanu PF legitimacy. This truth must be hammered into your empty heads. We cannot afford you nincompoops participating in flawed 2028 elections and perpetuating the dictatorship.
Nincompoops like you should have never been given the vote; it is like giving a a monkey a load gun! And now the nincompoop are holding the whole nation to ransom.
@ Chief Ndiweni
ReplyDeleteYou forgot to mention that CCC leaders took up their gravy train seats even after SADC and AU had condemned the election process as flawed and illegal! So many SADC and AU leaders boycotted the inauguration but not Chamisa & co.!

ReplyDelete"@Wilbert Mukori who do you think should lead Zim ...according to your views Ed, Genroll and Chamisa it's a no ...so please kindly advice me ipapo ndingabetsereke."
I totally agree with you, none of the three leaders on offer will solve the nation's problems. You can go through the list of Zanu PF leaders and opposition leaders who have come and gone over the last 45 years and my answer will still be none of them are any good.
The question you should be asking therefore is: Why has Zimbabwe failed to produce any leader with common sense much less a vision?
My answer is, the country's political system is rotted to the core, it can only produce sell outs, buffoons and murderers all corrupt as hell. Zimbabwe politics is a sewage pond, you will never catch quality fish in a sewage pond.
What the country needs is to implement the democratic reforms to allow open debate and democratic competition and accountability, stifled and ruthlessly denied under the present de facto one party dictatorship, to thrive. Aerate the sewage pond and quality fish will not only return, they will thrive!

ReplyDeleteWhich one would I elect as leaders, ED, VP Chiwenga or Nelson Chamisa?
None of them!
Zimbabweans have to realise that Zimbabwe's present political system is like a sewage pond, you will never catch quality fish form there. We need to implement the democratic reforms to allow meaningful debate and democratic discourse and competition of ideas to take place and thus aerate the sewage pond. Quality fish will not only return, they will thrive!
Mawarire, you have said Nelson Chamisa was paid US$20 million for conning Zimbabweans to participate in flawed 2023 elections and give Zanu PF legitimacy. What evidence do you have of this?

ReplyDeleteOPPOSITION UNITY IN DISARRAY AS LEADERS CLASH OVER POWER AND CONTROL
hararepost.co.zw Jul 2, 2025 5:21 PM
Political Reporter
The much-touted unity of Zimbabwe’s opposition appears to be collapsing before it even materialises, with deep-seated disagreements over leadership, ideology, and power-sharing threatening to turn the proposed coalition into yet another political pipe dream.
According to a source privy to the ongoing negotiations, prominent political analyst and mediator Dr Ibbo Mandaza has been working behind the scenes to bring together opposition heavyweights, including Nelson Chamisa, Jacob Ngarivhume, Job Sikhala, and Professor Welshman Ncube, under one united front.
However, the talks have reportedly hit a brick wall as the leaders struggle to find common ground.
The source revealed that while Chamisa, the former Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader, was initially receptive to the unity talks, he insisted on being the undisputed leader of any new coalition.
More controversially, he allegedly demanded exclusive powers to appoint the National Executive Council (NEC) of the proposed party—a condition that has ruffled feathers among his would-be allies.
“Chamisa is open to unity, but only on his terms. He wants full control over the party structure, including handpicking his lieutenants. Some see this as a power grab rather than a genuine effort to unite the opposition,” the source disclosed.
All these opposition leaders have participated in past flawed elections for the few gravy train seats Zanu PF was offering as bait. They are all going to participate in these 2028 elections for the same gravy train seats reward. Many of them know they will not win many of the gravy train seats if they divided the opposition vote. Doing so will only give Zanu PF the excuse to wipe the floor with them.
There are two opposition camps one that will participate in flawed elections to give Zanu PF legitimacy for a share of the spoils. The second camp seeks to break this vicious cycle. We have know by now which opposition camp we want.

ReplyDelete2028 ZIMBABWE ELECTIONS ARE ROUND THE CORNER TO PARTICIPATE IN THOSE ELECTIONS WITHOUT IMPLEMENTING REFORMS WILL BE "SUICIDAL", SAID LEONARD KONI. SUICIDAL TO WHOM?
CERTAINLY NOT TO CHAMISA AND CO., HE HAS JUST COME OUT OF A LONG SABBATICAL TO FORM A NEW "BROAD BASED CITIZEN MOVEMENT" (CCC IN ALL BUT NAME) FOR THE PURPOSE OF CONNING HIS FOLLOWERS TO PARTICIPATE IN 2028 ELECTIONS IN THEIR MILLIONS JUST AS THEY HAVE DONE IN THE PAST.
IT IS NOT CHAMISA & CO. WHO ARE COMMITTING KAMIKAZE IN PARTICIPATING IN FLAWED ELECTIONS, IT IS THE ORDINARY ZIMBABWEANS WHO ARE PAYING DEARLY FOR GIVING ZANU PF LEGITIMACY AND PERPETUATING THEIR OWN SUFFERING. AFTER 45 YEARS OF RIGGED ELECTIONS ONLY AN IDIOT WILL BE CONNED TO BELIEVE CHAMISA'S IDIOTIC LIES OF WINNING RIGGED ELECTIONS!
@ Mashaba
ReplyDelete“South Africa's Opposition leader Herman Mashaba calls for deportation of Zimbabwean born Rutendo Matinyarare who is now SA's Citizen after criticism of Mkhwanazi
ActionSA leader Herman Mashaba has called for the deportation of controversial Zimbabwean-born commentator Rutendo Matinyarare following Matinyarare’s public criticism of General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.
Matinyarare accused Mkhwanazi of failing to address criminal elements within the police force during his 20-year tenure.
In response, Mashaba described Matinyarare as “toxic” and vowed to prioritize his removal if ActionSA comes into power, stating that Matinyarare would be among the first to be expelled and barred from re-entry.
Matinyarare’s legal status in South Africa remains unclear, with critics questioning his right to freely criticize the country’s institutions while residing here.
Mashaba’s call aligns with his party’s stricter approach to immigration and national security, emphasizing that disruptive individuals who undermine public confidence in institutions should not be allowed to remain.
While some question the legal feasibility of deportation without evidence of illegal activity, Mashaba insists on firm action against those deemed harmful to national interests.”
Rutendo Matinyarare is a hypocrite given to praising everything that the Zanu PF’s dictatorship has done whilst ignoring the blatant tyrannical human rights violations by the regime. Many have questioned Matinyarare’s motive in criticising General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi for failing to end crime at the very time the General had acted decisively again high ranking public official - proof that no one was above the law.
What General did would never happen in Zimbabwe; where the Police, judiciary and all other public institution are Zanu PF departments in all but name. Matinyarare has never acknowledge this political deficit in Zimbabwe and one wonders whether his criticism is really about unsolved criminal activities or a reprimand for daring to hold high ranking leaders to account!
If I was ActionSA leader Herman Mashaba,I would remind Matinyarare that in SA, unlike Zimbabwe, no one is above the law and that he should not try to turn SA into Zimbabwe. Matinyarare is a Zanu PF apologist and hypocrite, still I would not deport him for that!

ReplyDelete"What should be done , remember JM clearly said Zanu can reform it self out of power ,so how will boycotting benefit us."
How has participating in flawed elections to give Zanu PF legitimacy and Chamisa & co. a few gravy train seats whilst perpetuating your own suffering “benefited” you? The truth is the millions have NOT participated knowing it is suicidal, on the contrary. They have participated believing doing so will result in CCC winning big and thus bring about the economic and political changes the nation have been dying for.
Chamisa has conned the nation to commit Kamikaze again and again with idiotic lies of the opposition winning rigged elections. After 25 years and MDC/CCC failing to implement even one token democratic reform the alarm bell should be ringing like church bell that Chamisa & co. are sell outs. Alas! No such warning has registered in the millions conned by Chamisa.
If the people of Zimbabwe do not open their eyes and minds and see Chamisa & co. for who they really are - Zanu PF team B in all but name conning them to participate in flawed 2028 elections to commit suicide - Zanu PF will rigged 2028 and get away with it!
@ Potera
ReplyDeleteCould not agree with you more. Why many Zimbabweans continue to refuse to accept the political reality that MDC/CCC leaders have been participating in flawed elections to give Zanu PF legitimacy because they were after the US$40 000 housing loan to all MPs and senators plus all the other gravy train trappings? beggars belief!

ReplyDelete"What kind of leaders will an armed struggle throw up?" This is a rhetorical question and one Zimbabwe has given the answer every one dreaded.
Robert Mugabe and company spearheaded Zimbabwe's armed struggle and have since denied the ordinary Zimbabweans their basic freedoms and rights including the right to a meaningful say in the governance of the country - their reward.
Zanu PF has rigged elections for the last 45 years and now every clown, buffoon and chigananda believe they too have the divine right to rig elections and be President of Zimbabwe!
@ Benjamin
ReplyDeleteNearly 2 m voted for Chamisa in 2023 and there are probably just as many in the diaspora who believed that CCC was going to win big because he “plugged all the vote rigging loop holes. #Godisinit!”
So you think “his following has shrunk significantly.” By how much?
You do not know what constitutes free and fair elections, all you care about is that Zanu PF win! Well Zanu PF rigged the 2023 elections and that must not be confused with winning!

ZIMBABWEANS HAVE PARTICIPATED IN FLAWED ELECTIONS TO GIVE VOTE RIGGING ZANU PF LEGITIMACY AND PERPETUATE THEIR OWN SUFFERING FOR 45 YEARS AND COUNTING OUT OF BLIND OBEDIENCE TO CHAMISA TO IDIOTIC LIES OF WINNING RIGGED ELECTIONS. HOW IS IT POSSIBLE THE WHOLE NATION CAN BE SO SHALLOW, THICK AND SLOW!

ReplyDeleteThe 2028 elections be about economic revival, the refurbishment of Parerenyatwa Hospital, the building of Trabablas Traffic Interchange, etc. will all place a part in helping the nation judge whether Mnangagwa is indeed "a world class president"! But for once, the people must be allowed to speak for themselves in a free, fair and credible electoral process!
In 2017 Mnangagwa promised to hold free and fair elections, he has failed to keep his promise but this must now end.
The right to free and fair elections is more than a right. It is the essence of good governance. After 45 years of rigged elections and bad governance the 2028 elections must be about restoring the people's right to free elections and competent and accountable government.
