"GNU is not a local herb; excluding Zanu PF would bring spectre of instability." Damocles sword hanging over the nation. W Mukori

“GNU is not a local herb!” wrote Jamanda2 in Bulawayo 24.

“The West also made sure there was no third party or parties with which to enter into a governing alliance that would exclude Zanu-PF from post-electoral settlement. Zanu-PF had to be in, to stabilise a post-election Zimbabwe! Such an option which excluded Zanu-PF would bring back the spectre of instability, which the West cannot brook in this highly mineralised teapot country of ours!

“The West's strategy against Zanu-PF and for a remade Zimbabwe subsists in a graduated electoral murder of the ruling Zanu-PF! As happened in post-Kabila DRC where the current President entered weak but became stronger once inside, and in the fullness of governing time.

“You understand that, then you reach political epiphany in respect of what was and remains planned for us by the West, both in the 2023 harmonised polls and electoral years to come. The notion of GNU is very much the West's thing; it is not the local medicine or herb to Zimbabwe's riven and polarised politics!”

The threat that Zanu PF will make Zimbabwe ungovernable if the party does not get its way has hang on the nation like the sword of Damocles since 1980! Zanu PF’s campaign strategy in 1980 was that if the party did not win the election the bush war would continue. The party had the guns and the manpower to carryout its threat and the nation knew that. The people voted to end the bush war not knowing they had lost their right to peace.

In 1983, Zanu PF launched the now infamous Gukurahundi massacre for the sole purpose of coercing PF Zapu, the party’s main political challenger, to give up its independent identity and join Zanu PF. After fours years of relentless persecution and over 20 000 died PF Zapu relented and signed the December 1987 Unity Accord clearing the way for the imposition of the de facto one-party, Zanu PF, dictatorship that has ruled the nation with an iron fist to this day.

The nearest, Zanu PF has ever come to losing its iron grip on power was during the 2008 to 2013 GNU when Mugabe and Zanu PF were forced to share power with the two MDC factions led by Morgan Tsvangirai and Arthur Mutambara. Mugabe was cunning enough to make sure the MDC leaders were afforded all the trappings of high office; the ministerial limos, the generous salaries and allowances, US$4 million mansion for Save himself, etc., etc. With their snouts in the feeding trough, the MDC leaders completely forgot that their primary purpose in the GNU was to implement the democratic reforms and dismantle the Zanu PF dictatorship.

MDC leaders failed to implement even one reform in five years of the GNU!Worst of all; Zanu PF contrived to allow the opposition to win a few gravy train seats so that post the 2013 GNU the de facto Zanu PF dictatorship was cloaked is a multi-party facade. The few gravy train seats was to entice the opposition to participate in the flawed elections no matter how flawed the process got. It worked like a charm!

“The (2013) electoral process was so flawed, so illegal, that the only logical step was to withdraw, which would compel SADC to hold Zanu PF to account. But such was the distrust between the MDC-T and MDC-N that neither could withdraw for fear that the other would remain in the elections, winning seats and giving the process credibility,” confessed David Coltart in his Book, The Struggle Continues 50 years of Tyranny in Zimbabwe.

After the 2018 elections, Mnangagwa sweetened the opposition bait by introducing POLAD, a superfluous body of losing presidential candidates who are rewarded with US$ 60 000 twin cab truck and other freebies. All they have to do is publicly endorse the rigged elections as free, fair and credible and entice more to participate in future rat races. He had to introduce a US$ 20 000 nomination free for presidential candidates just to stop the flood of POLAD claimants!

There were 11 presidential candidates in the 23 August 2023 rat race. The top two garnered 52.6% and 44% of the votes and the remaining 9 share 5.4%.

I dare say Zanu PF was taken completely by surprise by the SADC and AU election observer teams’ reports that condemned the 23 August 2023 election process as a farce. In the past the regional and continental bodies had taken the clue from Zimbabwe’s opposition parties’ enthusiastic participation as an excuse for rubber stamping the rigged elections.

SADC is yet to decide what to do with Zimbabwe, the regional body knows that it cannot sweep the damning SADC and AU election reports under the carpet. Another GNU is on the offing and the regime is reminding us all of the sharp sword dangling precariously over the nation!

Zimbabwe is a failed state precisely because the nation has failed to hold free, fair and credible elections for the last 43 years and was stuck with the vote rigging Zanu PF de facto one party dictatorship. We had the opportunity to implement the democratic reforms during the 2008 to 2013 GNU and we wasted it. We have a second bite at the cherry, we must make this count.

If Zanu PF is allowed to play a major role in the new GNU then we can be certain that most of the democratic reforms will never be implemented. Never! We must not allow Zanu PF hold the nation to ransom and waste this second chance!

  1. Zanu PF has tried to ignore the damning SADC election observer team's report; the report has not gone away. Now Zanu PF forced to accept the reality of the rigged elections and is claiming the West and zvimbwasungata have captured SADC.

One of the grievance of the liberation war was; “One man, one vote!” Zimbabwe has failed to hold free, fair and credible elections these last 43 years. How ironic that Zanu PF should be justifying its denial of the people’s basic right in the spirit of the liberation war.

This is a corrupt and tyrannical regime whose leaders are mercenaries masquerading as liberation war heroes. Zanu PF believed Zimbabwe was their reward for fighting in the war of independence and they and they alone have the right to rule the country and no one else has no say in the matter.

It is heartening that SADEC has stepped into this breach to fight for free, fair and credible elections. This madness must be stopped!

I am concerned that after 43 years Zimbabwe is still failing to hold free, fair and credible elections and I am searching for the answers why this is so. I am just surprised that you are frothing because I have dared to ask why we have failed to implement reforms but are clearly indifferent to the fact we have just had yet another rigged elections!

No wonder Zimbabwe is a failed state, we have some of the most shallow and thick people on planet earth. They are so shallow they do not even know what is in their own interest and would make a mountain out of a mole hole!

The fight to end the curse of rigged elections will continue until we have the reforms implemented. I am not here to massage your misplaced ego and stupidity!

  3. Charovedzera charovedzera, gudo rakakwira mawere kwasviba.

Zanu PF threatened the bush war would continue if the party lost the 1980 elections. They are are it again, threatening "spectre of instability" if the party is not in the GNU.

We can let Zanu PF hold the nation to ransom and let them snuff out the second and possible last chance in a generation to end the dictatorship! Or stand up and demand an end to this madness!

  4. Mnangagwa can say and do what he likes. What he must know is that he is not SADC and cannot bully SADC the same way Zanu PF has bullied the people of Zimbabwe these last 43 years.

SADC election observers dismissed the 23 August 2023 Zimbabwe elections as a sham because there were a sham. Now SADC has to decide on what is to be done with this illegitimate and arrogant Zimbabwe government! No doubt the region body will take note of the regime's threats just to remind themselves once again what kind of bully they are dealing with.

MDC/CCC were in power during the 2008 to 2013 GNU and them had the golden opportunity to implement the reforms then. Why did they fail to implement even one reform?

MDC/CCC have been participating in these flawed elections know doing so will only give vote rigging Zanu PF legitimacy and thus perpetuating the dictatorship and the ordinary people’s suffering. They been doing so out of greed and they say so themselves.

MDC/CCC have been participating in these flawed elections promising people CCC will win big knowing fully well that was a lie to hide their real reason - greed.

The challenge before this nation is to implement the democratic reforms and restore rule of law and we are not going to do it as long as we have a corrupt opposition participating in flawed elections to give Zanu PF legitimacy. And a naive and idiotic electorate who continue to support the opposition regardless of the reality CCC leaders are hunting with the Zanu PF hounds in broad day!

“Why wld u accuse parties that are not in power of not knowing what free & fair elections are?” How anyone can still ask such a stupid question with all the benefit of hindsight, underlines the just how thick, shallow and slow some people are. No wonder the country is a failed state, with so many village idiots, we do not deserve anything else!

  6. Ex-minister Saviour Kasukuwere, barred from running for president, says the Mutapa Sovereign Wealth Fund and a decree by President Mnangagwa exempting nearly 2 dozen companies from public procurement procedures "is a brazen abuse of power" and shows Zanu PF leader "lacks probity”

People like Kasukuwere are just vying for public attention. Corruption and tyrannical oppression was the order of the day during his days in Zanu PF and he never said a word. Indeed, he has shed innocent blood and got his share of the looted wealth. It is rich for him to now be wittering about “lack of probity!”

  7. Zanu-PF, which got a fresh mandate in the August 23-24 elections, will not entertain "any talk of a rerun, a Government of National Unity, or the so-called Transitional Authority", as this "is a pipe-dream that will never ever happen", President Mnangagwa has said.

Addressing the 119th Ordinary Session of the Zanu-PF Central Committee at the ruling party's headquarters in Harare yesterday, President Mnangagwa said those in opposition must respect the will of the people expressed through the polls.

He said there was no constitutional basis for an election rerun

Mnangagwa can say and do what he likes. What he must know is that he is not SADC and cannot bully SADC the same way Zanu PF has bullied the people of Zimbabwe these last 43 years.

  8. Shiri imweneimwe inemariri ayo! Mugabe threatened to take Zimbabwe out of SDC for “doing stupid things”. Now Mnangagwa is defying SDC for the same - Zanu PF’s failure to hold free, fair and credible elections.

Is SDC going to allow this party of thugs bully and bamboozle them the same way they have done Zimbabweans?

  9. @ Prof Ncube

“CITIZENS Coalition for Change (CCC) vice-president Welshman Ncube has insinuated that his party led by Nelson Chamisa has no political theory.

Writing on his X handle, Ncube wrote, "Just reread Lenin's political pamphlet which I last read years ago when teaching  at UZ: What is to be done? The Burning Questions of our movement.  One of the core lessons: Without political theory there can be no coherent & meaningful political action  just random rhetoric!”

The people of Zimbabwe, notably the wildebeest MDC/CCC herd have risked life and limb to elect the leaders into power on the ticket the party will deliver the democratic changes the nation has been dying for. After 23 years MDC/CCC has not implemented even one token reforms but strangely enough the herd’s devotion to the party has not diminished. Why?

The answer is simple enough: the herd has no clue what the democratic changes the nation has been dying for are much less how they are implemented. The herd trust the MDC/CCC leaders same blind Boxer, the horse in Animal Farm, “Napoleon is always right!” mentality. The herd, just like Boxer can not think, have no clue what is going on and so hide their ignorance in supporting the leaders blindly to hide their ignorance.

Of course, Professor Ncube is right, Chamisa has no these political theory and the party is blundering from pillar to post. The herd continue to support Chamisa they would not be any wiser if he had a a half baked political theory and they will still follow him just as blindly!

Indeed, Professor Ncube will be lynched by the herd for daring to criticise Chamisa Chete Chete! Such is the sorry reality of the mindless mob; you cannot reason them!

Universal suffrage should be a blessing but in our case it is a curse. We have given the vote to people who have no clue what is going on and, per se, what is in their own best interests.

MDC/CCC have given up on implementing reforms and have been participating in flawed elections to give Zanu PF legitimacy for a share of the spoils of power. The party has been hunting with Zanu PF hound in broad day, but is getting away with it because the herd is is blind, deaf and dum!

  10. Professor Ncube says CCC has "no coherent and meaningful political action just random rhetoric"! Of corse, he is right and the more reason he is certain to earn the wrath of the brain dead CCC herd! Nothing frightens and angers the herd more than anyone who dares to hold the dear leader, Chamisa Chete Chete, to democratic account!

No wonder Zimbabwe is a failed state and, worst of all, is well and truly stuck !

If Zanu PF thugs thought the SADC Troika would be cowed by their unwarranted attack, they have the answer! Lets hope SADC leaders will stand up to the Zanu PF regime and deny this government political legitimacy!

It will be for us, the people of Zimbabwe to make sure competent men and women are appointed in the NTA to implement ALL the reforms without failure! Zanu PF and CCC leaders cannot be in the NTA, they are the problem, they cannot be the solution too!

“Watanga kuhumana wakambotaura naNcube kupi you pick your article from FAZ and post them on this group you foolish old horse.”

Why don’t you go to Professor Ncube’s X handle and read the post for yourself! Not that doing so will make any difference!

You have no clue what Professor Ncube is talking about you, you pretend to understand these things to impress the rest of the CCC herd. You are angry with me and Professor Ncube, for pointing out that he dared to criticise the great leader, Chamisa Chete Chete!

Mankind is supposed to be a creature of intellect, can think and reason - the two things the herd is incapable of doing. It is not your fault, Hungwe, that you are brain dead. More often than not the mental challenge spans several generations!

“You foolish old horse!” Yes! Oh wise one, if you say I am foolish then I MUST be foolish!

“Ncube failed to have his own sound plans when he had his own party he is just like Mukori who does not have any sound plan ,he is blaming CCC and his next article will be a song of reforms yet he can't make a single one which is a true indication that the old man is just as good as a toothless British bulldog which spends much of its time barking instead of bitting.”
So is Chamisa the real bulldog in his prime whose bark sends a shiver down the spines of his victims because the know his bite will crunch through the thigh bone of a bull elephant!

We all know of the “MDC A has stringent measures to stop Zanu PF rigging the 2018!” bark. It did not send the shivers down Zanu PF’s spine because the party blatantly rigged those elections. This year it was “ CCC has plugged all the vote rigging loop-hole!” Only the village idiots believed the hot air!

MDC/CCC sold out by failing to implement even one democratic reform in the last 23 years and, worst of all, they have now abandoned reforms and are participating in flawed elections to perpetuate the dictatorship for a few gravy train seats. And the same village idiots are defending the sellouts and undermining the real efforts to get reforms implemented and end the dictatorship.

Chamisa chete chete the real bulldog with a vicious bark and bone crushing bite! How anyone can be so dum and stupid, even with the benefit of 43 years of Zanu PF mafiosi rigging elections hindsight, beggars belief!

  15. Five points:

    1) CCC participated in these flawed elections knowing fully well that they process is flawed and that doing so would give Zanu PF legitimacy.

    2) CCC participated in the flawed elections regardless - out of greed

    3) CCC leaders still went ahead and took their oath office and their gravy train seats, even after SADC and AU declared the process flawed and the results illegitimate out of greed.

    4) Holding fresh elections even if supervised by SADC will not solve the underlying institutional problems behind the country’ failure to hold free and fair elections.Holding fresh elections will kick the problem of rigged election can down the street. We need to solve it.

    5) We need to appoint competent and common sense Zimbabweans who will implement ALL the democratic reforms the 2008 to 2013 GNU should have implemented. Zanu PF and CCC are the root cause we are in this political mess. They are the problem and, per se, can not be the solution too.

SADC and AU election observers have done Zimbabwe a great service by condemning the 2023 flawed elections and given us the second golden opportunity to implement the democratic reforms and cure ourselves of this curse of rigged elections and bad governance.

We must not waste this chance by rushing into fresh elections without first implementing the reforms. Worse still appoint the same Zanu PF and CCC village idiots who landed us into this mess to implement the reforms!

“Was SADC n AU going to come up with that position of flawed elections if CCC or UZA did not participate in the elections???”

This is a foolish question only a fool would ask! A fool like you!

Zimbabwe is a failed state because the country has failed to hold free, air and credible elections for 43 years. Was Zanu PF doing the nation a favour by rigging the elections for all these years?

MDC/CCC have failed to implement even one reform to end the Zanu PF dictatorship these last 23 years including 5 in the GNU. Are we going to thank MDC/CCC leaders for selling out all these years?

CCC, UZA and the rest have been participating in these flawed elections knowing doing so will give Zanu PF legitimacy and perpetuate the dictatorship. They have carried on regardless, out of greed - the same reason MDC failed to implement reforms during the GNU.

CCC leaders have taken up their gravy train seats even after SADC and AU had condemned the election process was flawed and illegal. No doubt many of the losing presidential candidates cannot wait to endorse the 2023 election free, fair and credible and get their POLAD freebies. Proof CCC and the rest of the opposition are opportunists who do care about keeping Zanu PF in power “until the donkeys have horns” as long as they get get a share of the spoils of the dictatorship.

Only a first class village idiot would cheer and applauded those perpetuating their own suffering! Alas! We do have many village idiots hence the reason we ARE a failed state!

You are not complaining about the lies and rigged elections but are complaining about the warning! Where is the rational thinking in that!!!!!

You are supposed to be a creature of rational thinking. Alas! decades or generations of sloth-like slumber have resulted in the brain ossifying into fat. You don’t even know that reforms and free elections are in your own interest even after 43 years of rigged elections.

  19. Well, well! What goes round comes round! ANC has prop up Zanu PF at the expense of good governance in Zimbabwe and it was not the only foolish decision ANC made. SA is fast becoming another failed African state thanks to ANC's blundering incompetence! Now it looks like the people of SA have woken up to the reality of ANC's incompetence.

Last November, ANC made a party resolution to “stop regime change in Zimbabwe.” It is no secret that ANC was shock that SADC election observers condemned the 23 August 2023 elections as a sham. And yet President Cyril Ramaphosa is the one who have worked hard to water down the report so that Zanu PF can be granted legitimacy. Will Ramaphosa still impose Zanu PF on Zimbabwe, we have to wait and see.

ANC wanted to impose Zanu PF on Zimbabwe to better the party’s chances of winning 2024 elections after 30 years of corrupt and incompetent ANC rule. Now it is clear propping up Zanu PF has back fired badly on ANC because South Africans can see what Zimbabwe has become and SA is bound to become if ANC remains in power!
