Boris is still PM, he never “mentioned resign” – fake news to sooth jarred regime change sensitive nerves P Guramatunhu

“We must all remember that until a British Prime minister talks to the Queen he will not resign without her majesty’s consent. So, until then Johnson is very much the Prime minister. Not once in his speech did, he mention the word resign. Not even once did he refer to a meeting with the queen. So yes, he has not resigned yet,” wrote Dr Masimba Mavaza, to reassure the nervous Zanu PF regime.

“When those who claim to be masters of democracy slip into democratic confusion it is those who follow them who get the sharp edge. It is true that sometimes democracy is costly. Britain has experienced four general elections in three years and is likely to have the fifth.”

There are many take home lessons to be learned from the Boris Johnson saga, one of which being that no individual, no matter how high up the grease-pole they happen to be, is untouchable. This is a very important point because it gives confidence to those below to hold the leaders to account.

Democratic account is a key tenet of a healthy a functioning democracy and one that has made the system champion in quickly, efficiently, and effectively handling mismanagement, corruption and stamping out tyranny.

In a dysfunctional autocratic political system such as that in Zimbabwe, the top dog is untouchable and hence the reason why not even one Zanu PF minister dared to even protest much less resign even at the height of such madness as the wholesale looting of Marange diamonds or the Gukurahundi massacre. Mugabe and now Mnangagwa has enjoyed absolute power and the protesting individual would not have stopped the madness but rather booted out of the party. And all who have been booted out of Zanu PF have found “it is cold out there!” as Professor Jonathan Moyo has testified.

"But as we've seen at Westminster, the herd instinct is powerful and when the herd moves, it moves,” announced Prime Minister Boris Johnson outside the door of 10 Downing Street.

"And my friends in politics, no-one is remotely indispensable and our brilliant and Darwinian system will produce another leader, equally committed to taking this country forward through tough times.

"Not just helping families to get through it, but changing and improving the way we do things, cutting burdens on businesses and families and yes, cutting taxes, because that is the way to generate the growth and the income we need to pay for great public services.

"And to that new leader, I say whoever he or she may be, I say I will give you as much support as I can. And to you, the British public.

"I know that there will be many people who are relieved and perhaps quite a few who will also be disappointed. And I want you to know how sad I am to be giving up the best job in the world.”

Of course, Boris Johnson was disappointed to give up being Prime Minister “the best job in the world”; he would not be human if he otherwise. The point is he is giving it up because the Conservative MPs, in the first instance, and the voting public if they had failed to act, wanted him to go. And he is going; the starting gun for electing a new party leader who will then become Prime Minister has been fired.

The truth is the Zanu PF regime, like all other authoritarian and political despots the world over have been angling for Boris Johnson to defy the democratic wishes of his party and the voting public and refuse to leave office. It is not so much that Zanu PF wanted Boris to remain in office; they loath regime change because every time it happens, they fear the people of Zimbabwe might be inspired to seek regime change too.

When then President Donald Trump stormed Capital Hill on 6th January 2021, the date that has gone down in human history as the day American democracy was tested to destruction and passed; despots from Beijing, Moscow and most of Africa and South America were disappointed Trump failed. Nothing would have helped consolidate their own authoritarian dictatorship than Trump defying the democratic wishes of the American people! Nothing!

In an interview with Trevor Ncube, Professor Welshman Ncube revealed why the late dictator Robert Mugabe had stubbornly refused to appoint him Deputy Prime Minister in place of Arthur Mutambara – he feared contingency. If the MDC-N herd can elect a new leader and have him replace their leader in the GNU, the Zanu PF herd would certainly want to do the same threatening Mugabe’s own position!

So, Dr Masimba Mavaza’s article in Zimeye “Boris Johnson, Zimbabwe View”, no doubt reproduced in the Zanu PF control public media, is to reassure the Zanu PF leaders and supporters that reports of PM Johnson throwing in the towel, is all fake news. The Zimbabwe economy is in total meltdown and, needless to say, the people of Zimbabwe are desperate for regime change and view the coming elections as an opportunity to finally deliver that change.

Zanu PF is set to rig the 2023 elections thanks to MDC/CCC leaders’ not only selling out on reforms but insisting on participating in these flawed elections to give Zanu PF legitimacy. However Zanu PF knows it is not out of the woods yet because the possibility of street protest and/or another military coup to force regime change is a certainty.

The present economic chaos that has forced millions into abject poverty and despair cannot continue for much longer. Regime change in in the air, you take it with very breath, and no wonder the whole Zanu PF regime is a nervous wreck!

“Not once in his speech did, he mention the word resign!” proclaimed Dr Mavaza. Talk of fake news – that takes the biscuit! The Conservative party machinery is expected to produce a new party leader by November and Boris will walk the plunk, jarring the regime change sensitive nerves of the Zanu PF regime leaders and cronies alike!

  1. Zanu PF, like all despotic regimes the world over is nervous of leadership change especially when the ordinary people bring about that change. They fear their own people will want regime change too! Dr Mavaza is trying to reassure the Zanu PF thugs that there was no change in UK because Boris did not say the magic words "I am resigning!" Even the Zanu PF village idiots will know this is fake news!

  2. Also in attendance at the Embassy in what seems to have been a counter protest were members of ZANU PF.

One of those gathered voiced saying the presence of members of ZANU PF was causing them alarm and distress given the fact that ZANU members are well known for committing acts of violence on innocent unarmed citizens either with their own hands or using arms of the State.

Zanu PF rules by fear and therefore it is not surprising that the party's thugs were out to intimidate the demonstrators outside the Embassy in London. What we should be aware of is if these thugs have the audacity to threaten those in London, knowing their activities will be reported what more in the rural back waters where they do as their please!

Zanu PF is blatantly rigging these elections and by participating CCC is giving the regime legitimacy. This madness must be stopped!

  3. Zimbabwe has the highest inflation rate in the world, according to Steve Hanke, a professor of Applied Economics at Johns Hopkins University, who believes it can only be remedied by the full adoption of the US dollar.

The situation has quickly worsened this year as the Russian invasion of Ukraine compounded with black market foreign exchange has depleted the value of the Zimbabwe dollar.

In a healthy and functioning democratic nation where those in power are accountable to the people one would say Zanu PF will not win the 2023 elections. The reality is Zimbabwe is not a healthy democracy. The country’s economic decline has been relentless and the poorer the people got the more vulnerable they have become to Zanu PF political machinations. The rural people are the poorest of the poor and yet rural areas are Zanu PF strong holds precisely because Zimbabwe is a pariah state ruled by fear and centrifuge!

The tragedy for Zimbabwe is that the country had the golden opportunity to implement reforms and end the Zanu PF dictatorship, unfortunately the chances were wasted. MDC leaders failed to implement even one meaningful reform in five years of the GNU. And to add salt to injury, MDC/CCC has kept Zanu PF in power by participating in flawed elections giving Zanu PF legitimacy for the sake of a few urban seats given away as bait!

Zimbabweans have not had the intellect to realise the sheer futility of participating in these flawed elections much less the common sense to hold the sell-out opposition to account. Nations get the government they deserve; we certainly deserve this corrupt and tyrannical Zanu PF dictatorship complete with the coterie of corrupt, incompetent and utterly useless opposition sell outs!

  4. Zimbabwe had its get out of jail card during the GNU when implementing the democratic reforms would have ended the Zanu PF dictatorship, created healthy and democratic Zimbabwe and set the nation on a new path of peace, justice and economic prosperity.
Sadly, that was not to be. Morgan Tsvangirai and his gang of banded mongoose failed to implement even one reform and the opportunity was lost.
It is tragic that many Zimbabweans have failed to realise the opportunity the GNU offered; even now with the benefit of hindsight they still fail to see and so the blundering continues. The people continue to follow the corrupt and incompetent MDC/CCC like sheep to the slaughter. How anyone can subscribe to Chamisa’s oxymoronic nonsense of “winning rigged elections” beggars belief!
Chamisa and company continue participating in the flawed elections for the sake of the few urban seats and because they have no plan B.
I totally agree that by failing to implement reforms and have peaceful, orderly and democratic change the nation is left to fate – violent street protests and/or another military coup. The destiny of violent change is not very rarely peace, justice and economic prosperity. Not that we deserve peace and economic prosperity, these things must be earned and we have done nothing to earn them!

“Do not be delusional, the Republic of Zimbabwe is NOT the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka!!!”

Zimbabwe has been rocked by violent street protest before independence and after independence, had a bloody armed struggle and five years ago had the military coup. To even suggest that there will never be violent protests, or another coup is just wishful thinking on Zanu PF’s part – these things are long overdue! Just because the regime is determined to retain power at all cost and does not wish to have regime change does not mean the long suffering people will continue to gratify the regime and suffer and die in silence.

The street protests and/or coup will be to end the Zanu PF tyrannical oppression and therefore those involved will not be asking the regime permission to protest. The real tragedy here is that the nation is being forced to use violence to achieve regime change!

“In my view no govt governs without the consent of it's people whether unwillingly or unwittingly. Kana zvanyatsorwadza Zimbos will know what to do. In Sri Lanka they just got rid of garbage.”

Zimbabwe had a blood war to end white colonial rule only to replace it with this Zanu PF dictatorship. Five years ago the country had the military coup only to remove one dictator to replace him with another.

It is obvious, violent changes do not always deliver the desired peace and prosperity!

    1. The treasonous and traitorous sell-outs of the Comical Christian Cultists (CCC) aren't being your 'faithful servants'.
    2. And the Zim Patriots who Liberated Keeps Zimbabwe going ARE the only real leaders you will ever have.
Considering that you remain forever dissatisfied, with the expectation of others satisfying your 'cause', ever tried DOING THINS FOR YOURSELF?
Why is mental enslavement to others (and not Self-sufficiency) so appealing to your kind? Why?”
Holding the sell-out MDC/CCC to account and educating the ordinary people why it is insane to keep participating in flawed elections to give vote rigging Zanu PF legitimacy is doing something for not only myself but for the nation at large!

“You are sick in the head. How come you so anti but you cannot even tell us which Political Party you think can do it. At least Chamisa is trying. You spent your day whining about 2008 and criticising Chamisa. You are one useless person.”

There is nothing anyone can do right now until we break the present status quo in which Zanu PF rigs the elections, gets legitimacy from MDC/CCC for the small price of letting CCC win a few urban seats. It is amazing that even now, with all the benefit of hindsight you still fail to see that MDC sold out! No wonder the country is in a mess, with useless and stupid people like you – what else!

I am starting to think you are a secret Zanu pf sympathiser.”
We are talking here of 42 years and counting of rigged elections, that is much worse than I could ever be calling for an end to this insanity! The solution to stopping the rigged elections has not changed – implement the reforms to stop Zanu PF rigging. If you know of any other solution then let’s hear and meanwhile, I will repeat the solution I know so we can end this insanity of rigged elections and the tragic human misery it has brought.

It is interesting to note that some people are getting wound up being reminded what we must do to stop the curse of rigged elections but are indifferent to the curse itself and the human misery it has brought. It goes to show just how shallow, thick and slow some people are!

“But you honestly think a political party with zero power should have brought about fundamental changes? Didn't the economy stabilize but Zanu still had their knee on our throats? Give them full power and then judge after 5yrs, vote them out even. I believe that's how you bring change. Not some piecemeal arrangement meant to sanitize the loser and gave Zanu 2nd lease on life.”

Ignorance is a curse second only to death! If you still don’t know how the reforms were supposed to be implemented even now with the benefit of hindsight, you will never get your head round it. You are like someone who has spent a whole year of formal schooling and yet still don’t know the first five letters of the alphabet something your classmate mastered in a month or less!

MDC leaders failure to implement even one reform in five years because they are corrupt and incompetent and not because they had “zero power”!

  11. Dr Masimba Mavaza is the self-appointed (he could be paid for all I know) Zanu PF apologist and propagandist in the UK. You are right, PM Boris Johnson’s refusal to step down in the face of all the evidence of misconduct had cheered everyone in Zanu PF.

This is a party that has contempt for the rule of law, has ridden roughshod over the people denying them their freedoms and rights including the right to a meaningful vote and even the right to life! The regime has defiantly and routinely ignored the crying of the people of Zimbabwe for reforms and free and fair elections. Of course, PM Boris defiance was a welcome addition to the regime in its on crusade of defiance. Of course, the regime is very disappointed that PM Boris has given in to the demands of the public!

Dr Mavaza is stepping in as the Zanu PF propagandist in UK to assure the Zanu PF ruling elite that PM Boris has not given in to public demand – he is as defiant as ever. A propagandist must have the thick skin of a hippopotamus to be able to say something so dumb and stupid and put your name to it

“It was undoubted that in our country, issues of politics and political parties had been turned into dangerous and unnerving cultism - whereby, political leaders have been elevated to the status of deities.

Honestly, what would lead any sane reasonable person to regard even the most insignificant and nugatory thing uttered by a political leader worthy of wild applause?”

The people of Zimbabwe should have learned the dangers of elevating mere mortals to the status of deities after the nightmare of this decades of Zanu PF tyranny. But to see how Chamisa is toying with the people making a mockery of democracy and good governance under the pretext that CCC cannot allow the people to have meaningful say in the party for fear of the party being infiltrated. And, surprise, surprise the people themselves believe the hen’s teeth story!

“The main opposition party Citizen Coalition for Change (CCC) is running out of time to mobilise resources ahead of the 2023 harmonised elections.

While the party is appealing to the public, this alone will not help it to form the next government.

Commenting on the issue on his Twitter handle, CCC activist Kuda Musasiwa said time was slipping away for the party to raise enough funds for the coming harmonised elections.

"386 days till election. 210 constituencies. If each get $50k that means $10million. That means $26k per day needs to be raised (including today). Yes PER DAY. Ps: $50k is NOT enough to win any constituency for the first time. 50k is 10k t-shirts. Kuzoti fuel, posters, food?”
I totally agree, CCC will be hard pushed to raise this US$10 million for its election campaign whereas Zanu PF will raise US$ 10 billion in cash and kind from the regime’s looting brigade who all know they stand to lose a hell lot more than US$ 10 billion in one year alone if Zanu PF was to lose the 2023 elections!
Zanu PF has many, many other ways of blatantly rigging these elections besides the financial advantage. The bottom line is Zanu PF is blatantly rigging these elections. Only a fool would keep on betting against Zanu PF throwing a 6 when we all know that the party is using a dice with 6 on all the 6 faces!
By participating in these flawed elections, all CCC is doing is giving Zanu PF legitimacy in return for the few urban seats Zanu PF gives away as bait! It is for Zimbabweans to wake and put any end to this madness! These elections should not be going ahead without first implementing the reforms designed to stop the rigging.
Indeed, Zanu PF will be so keen to have CCC participate in these flawed elections Zanu PF will donate the US$10 million rather than see CCC out of the rat race. Such is the extend of the political rot in Zimbabwe!

“The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission has for the past years failed the CREDIBILITY Test.
It was seemingly obvious for any government official and regime agents to worry and work on the IMAGE of this organization.
It’s outlook is important not just to democracy but for the credibility of Elections in Zimbabwe and consequently LEGITIMACY of the Regime.
For students of history and modern scientific thought- this is not new. The leopard never changes its spots.
It’s back to elections without legitimacy and the regime’s menu of manipulation.”
This is really nauseating in its stupidity! So CCC readily admits ZEC has failed the credibility test, ZEC has failed to produce something as basic as a verified voters’ roll for Pete’s sake! And yet CCC has insisted in participating in the flawed and illegal elections all for the sake of the few urban seats Zanu PF gives away as bait!
CCC know Zanu PF is rigging these elections but the party will participate no matter how flawed the process gets; Chamisa and company are after the urban seats offered as bait. They don’t care that elections are rigged or the consequence of the dictatorship and the human suffering it brings.
The people of Zimbabwe must wake up to the reality the nation will never ever have reforms and free elections because Zanu PF will rig the elections and get legitimacy from CCC for 30 pieces of silver. Both Zanu PF and CCC are benefiting from the present arrangement it is the ordinary people, stuck with the corrupt and tyrannical Zanu PF dictatorship who are the losers!

  16. Citizens for Coalition Change spokesperson Advocate Fadzayi Mahere has finally taken Edmund Kudzayi to court for defamation of character.

“After all, who knows SK. Rigging is only possible if few old electorate help you!”
When it comes to rig elections, Zanu PF has carte blanche powers to temper with every aspect of the voting process to guarantee a Zanu PF victory by whatever margin the party decides is appropriate. In the 2018 elections ZEC had two different votes count totals that it could not reconcile and at least 16 of the V11 form, summary of the vote count at each Polling Station, entries were identical in every detail to two or more other entries – proof they were double entries. ZEC itself, forget the MDC opposition, failed to submit about 10% of the V11 forms – proof this was blatant vote rigging.
When one talks of Zanu PF blatantly rigging the elections, we are talking of a party playing with not just a loaded dice but several of them including one with 6 on all six sides so the party is absolutely guaranteed to throw a 6 again and again and again and again. Indeed, it cannot throw anything other than a 6!
What has made Zimbabwe elections a total farce is that the MDC/CCC knows that Zanu PF is playing with a loaded dice and continues to insist in participating, betting against the party failing to throw a 6 from it dice with 6 on all the six sides. MDC/CCC is daft but not that daft; they know Zanu PF is giving away a few urban gravy train seats to entice the opposition to play no matter how flawed the process gets. Chamisa and company are playing to be Zimbabwe’s main opposition and they don’t care this is at the price of giving Zanu PF legitimacy and perpetuating the dictatorship!
MDC/CCC will participate in these flawed elections no matter what. A situation that suits Zanu PF to a T; why would the party concede to democratic reforms and risk losing power when they are guaranteed legitimacy no matter how flawed the process happens to be!
The real tragedy here is that even after 42 years of rigged elections many Zimbabweans have yet to see both Zanu PF and the MDC/CCC are conning them! There is no one more blind that one who refuse to open their eyes and mind to see and comprehend what is before their own eyes!

  19. HARARE, Zimbabwe - An Emergency Power Infrastructure Rehabilitation Project funded by ZimFund, has reached the last leg of implementation with the delivery of a 175 MVA transformer, signalling relief from constant power outages for thousands of customers in the Midlands, Mashonaland East & West provinces of Zimbabwe.

The transformer was delivered on Sunday 10 July to the Sherwood Substation in Kwekwe Midlands Province, about 200km to the west of Harare. Phase II of the ZimFund Emergency Power Infrastructure Rehabilitation Project (EPIRP II) was funded to the tune of $22.74 million by ZimFund, in which the African Development Bank Group is a major partner.

Customers fed by the Sherwood substation, are spread over Midlands, Mashonaland East & West and Masvingo Provinces, serving over 1.2 million people. The substation is currently equipped with three 90MVA, 330/88/11kV transformers, giving a total substation installed capacity of 270MVA against a substation demand of 350MVA.

The new transformer will replace the old equipment which is beyond repair, causing numerous power interruptions that have impacted negatively on households, industry, human capital institutions, and essential basic service delivery.
The $145.8 million fund's donors include Australia, Denmark, Germany, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland and United Kingdom. Most of the substations rehabilitated under ZimFund power project, supply power to critical institutions such as hospitals, schools and universities, water and sewage treatment plants, mines and other public facilities that cater for a population of over 5 million people, spread across the country's provinces.

Under its energy sector, the African Development Bank is also financing other infrastructure projects in Zimbabwe such as the Kariba Dam Rehabilitation, Alaska-Karoi Transmission Line and Energy Sector Reform Support projects with a total investment of USD 90.5 million.
Most of ZESA’s equipment was inherited from the white colonial regime in 1980 and not been properly maintained much less upgraded ever since. The country’s power industry is, like so many other things in the country, in varying stages of rot and decay.
This transformer replacement was long overdue, and the chances are the transformer will not the used to its full 175 MVA rating because the related upstream and downstream equipment will take ages to be upgraded. This is just crisis management; “kiya kiya” as one would say in Shona.

  20. This is just the usual political posturing, CCC know that Zanu PF is blatantly rigging these elections and yet they will still participate regardless. Why? They are after the few urban gravy train seats being offered as bait. Zanu PF knows that hence the reason why the regime can afford to ignore calls for reforms before elections.

MDC/CCC are aiding and abetting this Zanu PF dictatorship and it is high time Zimbabweans woke up to this political reality! CCC will participate in these flawed elections no matter what, they don't care that they are the ones keeping Zanu PF in power and thus extending the tragic human suffering the regime has brought. 21. ELECTORAL watchdog, the Election Resource Centre says Zimbabwe's total eligible voters should hover around eight million, meaning that nearly three million people are not interested to vote.

A graphic report produced by ERC this week revealed that opposition strongholds such as Harare and Bulawayo have the least number of potential voters registered to vote in the 2023 elections compared to rural constituencies.

According to the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec), only 5 804 975 people are on the 2023 voters roll, a 2% increase from the 2018 figure of 5 695 706 registered voters.

Zec has promised to introduce more voter registration blitzes
“Mazivanhu eMDC adzidza kudya anyerere!” (MDC leaders have learned to enjoy the trappings of power and will never rock the boat!) boasted Zanu PF cronies when asked why Morgan Tsvangirai and his MDC friends were not implementing the democratic reforms during the 2008 to 2013 GNU.
Of course, the Zanu PF cronies were right and, most importantly of all, time has proven them right! MDC failed to implement even one democratic reform in five years; not even the relentless nagging by Sadc leaders to implement reforms was able to get MDC to budge and implement even one token reform.
Sadc leaders told Tsvangirai and company to their faces “If you go into the elections next month (July 2013), you will lose. The elections are done!” in a last-minute desperate attempt to get the 2013 elections postponed until the reforms are implemented. MDC leaders ignored the stain warning; they were not going to rock the boat – period!
Sadc leaders finally got the message and thrown in the towel. They reverted to their default position of supporting Zanu PF by endorsing the rigged elections giving the regime legitimacy!
The real tragedy for Zimbabwe is that many Zimbabweans out there have yet to realise that MDC/CCC are now working for Zanu PF and will never implement any meaningful reforms and rock the boat! Never!
