"Today, Mwonzora joined Zanu PF to destroy Constitution" - it was still-born "MDC child" we should have rejected back in 2013 P Guramatunhu

"Mwonzora and his lot joined hands with Zanu-PF today to destroy the Constitution. The MDC-T has officially enabled Zanu-PF to mutilate the Constitution of Zimbabwe," said a statement from the Chamisa led MDC Alliance.

Spare us the chutzpah.

Zanu PF’s 54 senators was enough to pass Constitution Amendment Bill No 2 with 2/3 majority even if the Mwonzora’s 11 MDC-T senators had rejected it.

The truth is Zimbabwe’s 2013 Constitution was a weak and feeble document “dictated by Mugabe”, boasted Paul Mangwana, the Zanu PF MP on the parliamentary committee that drafted the constitution. Morgan Tsvangirai and his MDC friends heralded it as a democratic constitution and an “MDC child” because they were desperate to have something to show for the wasted 2008 to 2013 GNU years.

The 2013 Constitution failed its litmus paper test – deliver free, fair and credible July 2013 elections - before Zanu PF had amended it.

It is rich that Nelson Chamisa, Tendai Biti, David Coltart, Welshman Ncube and many of the other MDC A leaders should be pointing the accusing finger at Mwonzora and company the ones who joined Zanu PF and “today destroyed the Constitution” when they were all in the MDC family that sold out gave this still-born “MDC child!” constitution in 2013. One does not destroy “today” something that was still-born 8 years ago, in 2013.

Zimbabwe is in this seemingly never ending economic and political mess because the nation has been stuck for 41 years and counting with this corrupt and tyrannical Zanu PF regime that has rigged elections to stay in power.

The people of Zimbabwe have risked life and limb to elect the now late Morgan Tsvangirai and his MDC friends on the understanding the party will bring about the democratic changes the nation needed to end the Zanu PF dictatorship. After 21 years, 5 of which in the 2008 to 2013 GNU, MDC has failed to deliver even one meaningful democratic change. Not even one!

Worse still, MDC leaders are now participating in flawed and illegal elections giving the vote rigging Zanu PF regime legitimacy. MDC leaders are now helping to perpetuate the Zanu PF dictatorship, the political system the people have, all these years, risked life and limb to end.

Zimbabwe’s economic and political mess was grown worse since MDC was launched back in 1999 and, today, it is now a serious existential crisis. Unemployment has soared to 90% and 49% of our people now living in abject poverty. Basic services such as education and health care have all but completely collapsed. The corona virus pandemic has turned a tragic situation into a Biblical catastrophe.

Zimbabwe’s economic and political existential crisis demands our immediate and undivided attention. The solution to ending the crisis is for the nation to implement the democratic reforms, the pre-requisite for free, fair and credible elections. This is the same task the nation has risked life and limb to elect MDC leaders to do.

Zimbabweans must now, after 21 years of MDC inaptitude, to open their eyes to the harsh reality that MDC leaders - Chamisa, Mwonzora the lot - are corrupt and breathtakingly incompetent. They had many golden opportunities to deliver the democratic changes needed to end the Zanu PF rule and they wasted them all. MDC leaders will never deliver the democratic changes the nation needs to end the economic and political crisis we are facing.

MDC leaders are going to drag the nation into yet another flawed and illegal 2023 election process. The people of Zimbabwe must refuse to follow MDC leaders. People must put their foot down and demand the implementation of the reforms before elections.

“Mwonzora and his lot joined hands with Zanu-PF today to destroy the Constitution!” It was still-born “MDC child”, fathered by all the MDC leaders, and Zimbabweans should have rejected it back then.

  1. Zanu-PF District Co-ordinating Committee (DCC) throughout the country have lined up door-to-door campaigns ahead of the forthcoming elections.
The violent campaigns are aimed at forcing people to vote for the desperate party in the next election.
The party recently directed all its DCCs to mobilise and get five million members to vote for its President, Emmerson Mnangagwa.
As long as there are no meaningful democratic reforms to make sure the Police, Judiciary, etc. are free to do their bit to ensure free, fair and credible elections then Zanu PF will use violence to win elections. The party go up the gears to march the situation on the ground, if the threat on its hold on power is high then so too will the level of violence used to deal with the threat.
There real is no rational in participating in these flawed and illegal elections given Zanu PF has carte blanche powers to do whatever the party feels is necessary to ensure its iron grip on power is assured. The idea of winning rigged elections is a foolish one particularly when so many attempts have failed and one does not need to do it! If the people had their wits about them, they would know this is just foolish. The people are giving the flawed elections and results by participating in the process.

The greedy and reckless opposition are participating to win the few gravy train seats Zanu PF has on offer. The ordinary people gain nothing from participating but are just too dumb to know that!

  2. Those who say the MDC -T are in anyway to blame for the passing of the Amendment Bill No 2 have no clue what they are talking about. Zanu PF has the 2/3 majority in parliament and in the senate and therefore would have pass the bill without an opposition support.

The damage was done in drafting a weak constitution during the GNU and failing to implement the democratic reforms to take away Zanu PF's carte blanche powers to rig elections.

People focus on making sure they do not participate in the 2023 elections, now that it is clear Zanu PF will not implement any reforms. They must forget about the Amendment Bill, it is water under the bridge. Focus on what you can change, making sure the 2023 elections are declared null and void.

  3. It is interesting to note how MDC leaders have copied and pasted many of Zanu PF’s dirty tactics making them their own. Zanu PF has stubbornly refused to admit that one of the root cause of the country’s economic meltdown is the rampant corruption and have heaped all the blame on “illegal sanctions imposed on the country by the British and their allies”! And to rave up the emotions of the naïve and gullible the party has even blamed the MDC leaders of instructing the West to impose the evil sanctions.
Zanu PF has always called the MDC leaders puppets of the West but for the purpose of blaming the MDC for the sanction, Zanu PF leaders were making the puppet the master of the puppeteer! And, surprise, surprise, the naïve and gullible swallowed the hook, line and sinker; no questions asked.
MDC leaders have always maintained that the 2013 Constitution a strong and democratic constitution even in the face of the glaring realities of the constitution failing to deliver the freedoms and rights including the free and fair elections. They have blamed Zanu PF for refusing to align the existing laws to the new Constitution. A feeble excuse given the GNU lasted five years, enough time to draft the new constitution and align all the existing laws as required.
Besides, the SADC leaders literally begged the MDC leaders not to take part in the 2013 elections until all the necessary reforms to stop Zanu PF rigging the elections were implemented. MDC leaders ignored the advice.
The truth is the 2013 Constitution was indeed a stillborn “MDC child” and Chamisa, Biti and the other MDC A leaders have finally found a way out - blame Mwonzora for destroying something they have known all along was stillborn.
“Mwonzora joined Zanu PF to destroy the Constitution!” resonates with “MDC joined British Imperialists to destroy Zimbabwe!”
And, surprise, surprise, the MDC herd has swallowed the hook, line and sinker; no questions asked.
A heathy and functioning democracy demands an informed and diligent electorate, not a naïve and gullible one. We is Zimbabwe are a long, long way from having such an electorate!

  4. The MDC Veterans Activists Association faced a salvo of accusations and insults from the varakashi cyber bullies and the doggie sycophants for condemning the MDC-T's unholy tag team with ZANU PF to pass the grotesque bill.

We were accused of bootlicking and indulging in politics of malice and hatred. However, these accusations were baseless and unfounded as our stance was premised squarely on events obtaining in both the upper and lower houses.

Today, we stand on moral high ground as Douglas Mwonzora and his MDC-T have exposed themselves as the surrogates of ZANU PF by aiding and abetting the regime to reach the Constitutional two thirds majority to enable them to pass the amendment No. 2 through Senate.
You do not even have the common sense to know Zanu PF has 2/3 majority in both parliament and senate and would have passed the Bill without support from any of the opposition legislators. And for your own information (not that any of it will ever sink into that cup-cake) Zanu PF got the 2/3 majority by rigging the elections. Chamisa, Biti, Mwonzora and everyone in the opposition camp gave Zanu PF legitimacy by participating in the flawed and illegal elections!
The MDC leaders had the golden chance to implement the democratic reforms that would have stopped Zanu PF rigging election during the 2008 to 2013 GNU. They failed to implement even one reform. They have compounded their betrayal of the nation by dragging us into these flawed elections. They know Zanu PF gives out a few gravy train seats as bait and they could not resist.
“We stood solidly and continue to stand behind the MDC Alliance and its leadership because we had/have noticed the MDC-T's treacherous and Luciferous ways which is totally divorced from the founding principles of the people's struggle. It is our duty not only serve victims of the Democratic Struggle, but also to safeguard the gains of our struggle and party from the Muzorewas of today.”
How stupid can you be! Even now with all the benefit of hindsight you still fail to see that Nelson Chamisa and the other in MDC A are just as guilty of the political mess we are in as Douglas Mwonzora. MDC leaders are not going to get us out of this hell-hole because they are all corrupt and incompetent – what else must they do for you to finally admi that!!!!
