"Making Zimbabwe ungovernable is not what we fought for" - look who is talking, cup is full to overflow P Guramatunhu

"Given the onslaught, machinations and clandestine shenanigans by our detractors, isu tasara, ngatirambei takabatana (we the living must remain united) … in defence of our hard-won independence,” Mnangagwa told mourners at Heroes Acre.

"Violence, destruction of property and making Zimbabwe ungovernable can never be democratic and that is not what we fought for.”

This is just nonsense.

If anyone has made Zimbabwe ungovernable it is Zanu PF every time the party has felt its iron grip on power threatened, it has blatantly rigged the elections and, time and time again, resorted to wanton violence, abductions, beatings, rape and even cold blooded murder of its political critics and opponents. All “done in defence of our hard-won independence”!

Zimbabwe is in this economic and political mess because the country has been stuck with a corrupt, incompetent and tyrannical regime that rigged elections to stay in power. All “done in defence of our hard-won independence”!

All attempts to restore the citizens’ basic freedoms and rights including the right to free, fair and credible elections and even the right to life have been ruthlessly resisted. All “done in defence of our hard-won independence”!

Of course, this is nonsense Zanu PF is a party of corrupt, incompetent and ruthless thugs who believe they have the divine right to rule the country and are not democratically accountable to the people. They have rigged elections and use brute force to impose their will under the pretext if anyone else got into power they would undermine the country’s independence, sovereignty, etc., etc.

It the last 40 years the regime has accused all its critics and political opponents of all manner of crimes and treason but has never produced the evidence. Allowing citizens to exercise the freedoms and rights including the right to a meaningful vote does not threaten the nation’s independence. On the contrary, nation that have upheld the citizens’ freedoms and rights have also enjoyed peace, justice, liberty and economic prosperity.

Zimbabwe is facing its most serious economic and political crisis and to end it we must, first and foremost, end the curse of rigged elections and bad governance. We totally reject Zanu PF’s attempts to maintain the status quo under the pretext that change will threaten the nation’s independence. The status quo has been a disaster for the nation and it must go!

Ending the status quo will end the Zanu PF dictatorship and will have no effect on the country’s independence! This is just Zanu PF project fear of the unknown!

Fear and violence have ruled Zimbabwe these last 40 years. We demand an end to fear and violence. We demand the implementation of the democratic reforms to ensure the next elections are free, fair and credible.

Since Zanu PF is not going to reform itself out of office, the party must step down to allow the nation to appoint an interim administration that will implement the reforms.

After 40 years of rigged elections all “done in defence of our hard-won independence”; the cup is full to overflow. Zanu PF rigged the July 2018 elections, the regime is illegitimate and it must step down.

  1. President Emmerson Mnangagwa has warned teachers that his administration will not take lightly their demands of better pay but will deal with them as ransom.

Speaking in Mutare on Wednesday night, Mnangagwa said, " Government will not be taken to ransom by striking  teachers. The Second Republic proceeds on principles, not blackmail. Teachers will be paid for working, never for staying at home, away from their working stations.”

If the country’s economy was doing well and the teachers had other employment options then they would have left teaching decades ago. Indeed many of the teachers who were able to leave for other jobs within the country or beyond have left. If the option is to be a poorly paid teach or else join the Mount Everest high unemployed, you stay.

Still there are limit beyond which even those desperate to have a job will accept one. Those limits have been reached in Zimbabwe. The pay teachers are receiving is not enough to cover their basic needs such as transport, food, accommodation and health care. It is wishful thinking that teachers will continue to attend classes in their pay does not cover their transport and food needs, for example.

With year or year inflation now at 838% or 35% month on month it is easy to why many will stop going to work because by the time one is pad the money will have lost so much of its value it is not worth it!

“The Second Republic proceeds on principles, not blackmail!” Yeah right! What second republic? What principles? Zimbabwe is still a pariah state ruled by corrupt, incompetent and vote rigging thugs just as in the Mugabe days. As much as Mnangagwa would want the nation to believe there is change, the truth is nothing of substance has change.

  2. “Violence, destruction of property and making Zimbabwe ungovernable can never be democratic and that is not what we fought for.” I agree one have to rub one's eyes and clean one's ears just to be sure one has heard and seen right; it is indeed Emmerson Mnangagwa saying these things.

Ever since the November 2017 military coup Mnangagwa and company have claimed the democratic moral ground as their own. This is a regime that it can say one thing and do the exact opposite. The regime insisted in calling the post November coup Zimbabwe a Second Republic, a new and democratic dispensation that would hold free, fair and credible elections. Mnangagwa refused to implement even one token democratic reform and went on to blatantly rig the elections. To this day he insists the elections were free, fair and credible.

He is denouncing the use of violence, destruction of property and making the country ungovernable and yet his regime has been terrorising ordinary people with the view of silence all dissent. Teachers and nurses have been asking for bread and all they have ever got from this government are empty promises and beating.

The need for Zimbabwe to implement the democratic reforms to ensure free, fair and credible elections has never been a more serious and urgent matter than it is now. Zimbabwe's economic meltdown has dragged the nation to the very edge of the precipice, millions are living in abject poverty with no hope for the future. The country is on the brink of social and political instability and chaos, death and destruction. The only way to stop us going down this route is for the country to hold free and fair elections and end the curse of rigged elections and bad governance. Time is running out!

  3. Robert Mugabe and his Zanu PF cronies wanted to impose a one-party dictatorship from the word go. They did not hesitate dragging the nation into the Gukurahundi massacre to force PF Zapu to sign the Unity Accord and thus opening the door to the imposition of the one-party dictatorship. The party has always made it clear that it will make Zimbabwe ungovernable, burn the house down, than let anyone else rule the country.

Ever since the November 2017 military coup Mnangagwa and his cronies decided they will proclaim Zimbabwe a Second Republic, a new dispensation, will to embrace democracy, good governance and they even promised to hold free, fair and credible elections. The only subtle difference is they had no intention of giving up the dictatorial powers and risk losing power. They kept the de facto one party dictatorship only now they would go out of their way to promote as a fully fledged democracy. A wolf in sheep's clothing - it surprising how many sheep are fooled again and again!
