Mnangagwa demands "security" guarantees before returning - what guarantees does povo have. P Guramatunhu

“I told the President that I would not return home now until I am satisfied of my personal security, because of the manner and treatment given to me upon being fired,” says Mnangagwa.

So you care about your own “personal security” and life? How many innocent Zimbabweans have you harassed, beaten, forced to jump out balcony and even murdered for no other reason than to establish and retain the de facto Zanu PF dictatorship.

You and your fellow members in the Joint Operation Command, a shadowy Junta including General Chiwenga the ringleader of the coup hold Mugabe hostage today, other security Chefs and Robert Mugabe himself; have ruled Zimbabwe with an iron fist. The Junta has planned and directed all the looting, vote rigging and ruthlessly crash all who dare challenge its authority.

When President Mugabe, the corrupt and murderous tyrant the Junta had imposed on the nation all these years, turn on you, Mnangagwa, you snaked out of the country under cover of darkness. And now, even with one of your fellow Junta members led by General Chiwenga, holding Mugabe hostage you refuse to return because you fear for your life.

We want democratic reforms implemented  to restore our basic freedoms and human rights including the right to free and fair elections and the right to life itself. There is no point in asking Mnangagwa to give us his assurance reforms will be implemented before he returns and takes over as president. Mnangagwa himself has already boasted that Zanu PF will not reform itself out of power.

Mnangagwa values his own life but once he is assured of his own security the only thing that matter to him is ensuring he has absolute power, he and his Junta friends will ride roughshod over the people’s freedoms and basic human rights to secure political power.  Nothing and not even the sanctity of human life will be allowed to stand in Mnangagwa and JOC’s way in they drive to ensure Zanu PF’s continued rule.

“Kana ukarota imwe party ichitonga Zimbabwe, muka umbike doro nokuti midzimu wakurasa. Zanu PF ichatonga igotonga!) (If you dream of any other party ruling Zimbabwe, your ancestors have deserted you. Zanu PF will rule and rule!) Boasted Mnangagwa during the happier times when he was Mugabe’s chief enforcer.

How ironic that Mnangagwa should be demanding more assurances of his own safety from his fellow Junta members before he will return and yet he will return to lead the Zanu PF dictatorship which he expect Zimbabweans to accept knowing fully well it will reconstitute the same corrupt, vote rigging and tyrannical regime.

Mnangagwa has every right to demand assurances of his personal safety his President Mugabe, of all people he (Mnangagwa) knows too well how dirty and ruthless the tyrant now holed up in State House can be, after all he is the one who carried out some of the tyrant’s dirtiest   assignments. But before you return to Zimbabwe and take over as president we, the people of Zimbabwe, demand assurances from you and JOC of our personal freedoms and human rights. What guarantees do you give us that you will allow the implementation of the democratic reforms designed to end the Zanu PD dictatorship?

We want your personal security to be assured Mr Mnangagwa but we also want our freedoms and human rights assured. The Zanu PF dictatorship you left cannot resume its sinister, corrupt and tyrannical activities from where you left off; it is not going to be business as usual for you and the JOC Junta! We demand real political change; we demand the implementation of the democratic reforms; that Sir is as none negotiable as you returning to Zimbabwe knowing there is a firing squad awaiting your arrival!

  1. Now that Mugabe has resigned we must now make sure that he does not take out of the country truck loads of the diamonds, cash and other goods he and his looted from the nation all these years. 72.3% of our people now live on US$1.00 or less a day. It would be criminal to let them fester in abject poverty and dumb anguish whilst Mugabe and his family continue to live in unparalleled luxury.

Mugabe's resignation must be the first in the long road to seek justice. The very fact that Mugabe's exit is being managed by his friends and fellow thugs in the Zanu PF dictatorship must make whatever they agree with the tyrant prima facie. a clear miscarriage of justice.

Zanu PF will now mount an all out campaign to sell Mugabe's resignantion as the cure all the nation has been waiting for and must now move on. The Zanu PF dictatorship is very much alive and well and, worse of all, carry on with business as usual.

We want real and democratic changes, the implementation of the democratic reforms. We must redouble our efforts to keep the nation's attention focused on change. Zanu PF will be determined to make sure that the firing of Mugabe is all the change we ever achieve. The firing of Mugabe should only be the beginning of the spring cleaning ahead.

  2. Mnangagwa is the flip side of the same coin the Zanu PF dictatorship of which Mugabe has been, up to now the side most people have seen.

He was security guarantees for himself and his family but was the dictatorship's enforcer who gave all those consider the regime's critics hell. The State Institutions to who the people turned for security, justice, information, meaningful vote, etc. such as Police, the Judiciary, Public Media, ZEC, etc. were all corrupted by the regime to serve its selfish interest at the expense of the people. The regime has ridden roughshod over our freedoms, human rights, dreams and our very human dignity. Zanu PF has crashed the people like bugs underfoot!

It is ironic that Mnangagwa should be the one demanding guarantees for his security from the man he knows would not hesitate to crash him like a bug. He is the one the tyrant has send in the past to crash the life out of many an innocent Zimbabwean hence the reason he is worried. Yet Mnangagwa, once he takes over, would himself be authorising the same brutal oppression on povo as before.

Like all ruthless tyrants Mnangagwa is more concerned about his luxuries than the very lives of the ordinary people. He has crashed the life many innocent Zimbabweans in the past and did not even flinched! Now he going to be president, he would not hesitate to do the same again just to extend his own stay in office by a day! The only guarantees one can expect from President Mnangagwa is more spies, more harassment more suffering and more deaths.

If Zimbabweans want their freedoms and basic human rights then they will have to fight the Zanu PF dictatorship every step of the way. Mnangagwa, just like Mugabe before him, loves absolute power and he will stop at nothing to make sure he stays in power!

  3. @ Machavio

Yes, our gallant security services have guaranteed every Zimbabwean’s peace and security as long as Zanu PF’s no-regime-change mantra was not at stake. Threaten that and all hell broke loose. General Chiwenga, the ringleader of the coup that has ouster Mugabe today, has been at the very heart of countless Joint Operation Command (JOC) operations rig the vote and keep Mugabe and Zanu PF in power. The coup, he now calls Operation Restore Legacy is nothing more than a surgical operation to remove Mugabe, the tyrant JOC had imposed on the nation all these last 37 years only to replace him with Mnangagwa, another tyrant JOC will no doubt be imposing on the nation with the same ruthlessness and indifference to rule of law.

The gallant soldiers, Police, the swarm of CIOs, etc. are supposed to be defending the freedoms and human rights of all Zimbabweans and not be the ones denying povo these freedoms to promote the insatiable greed of the Zanu PF tyrants and thugs! We want a democratic Zimbabwe where everyone enjoys freedom and human rights including the right to free, fair and credible elections and the right to life!

No doubt website like this are now swarming with Zanu PF agents pretending to be ordinary Zimbabweans and defending the Zanu PF dictatorship 24/7! No matter what you lot do, you will not stop democratic change happening, it is long overdue.

Mnangagwa will rig next year’s elections; he has no choice he will not have time to change the economy sufficiently to risk holding free, fair and credible elections. Take it from me, he will not get away with rigging the elections! He will serve Mugabe’s remaining eight months then it is good bye. Adiós señor Lacoste! Grace Mugabe can finally have her crocodile skin Gucci shoes!

  4. “Whatever short-term arrangements the government may establish, the path forward must lead to free, fair, and inclusive elections, in which the people of Zimbabwe, free to assemble peacefully without undue interference and to voice their opinions without fear, choose their own leaders,” said US statement.

This is spot-on! The focus is to ensure all the democratic reforms are implemented and the Zanu PF dictatorship is dismantled.

The removal of Mugabe from office was the climax of the factional war that has been tearing Zanu PF apart these last four years. The Mnangagwa faction has won and collected the prize – remove Mugabe and replace him with Mnangagwa. Once he has been sworn into office, he is going to announce his new cabinet, rewarding his supporters.

As far as the ordinary Zimbabwean is concerned will that has happened is the Zanu PF dictatorship has lost its old dictator and gain a new one. Nothing else has changed, the corruption, vote rigging, oppression, etc. will all resume and continue as before.

The fight to get the democratic reforms implemented is yet to be fought. If anything the demise of Mugabe will make the fight harder because the Zanu PF dictatorship is out is full force to sell to the people that the country does not need any reforms implemented now! This is an easy sell, given that many people cannot separate the dictator from the dictatorship and so the demise of Mugabe equates to the end of the dictator and the dictatorship.

It will take a lot of patience to explain that the dictatorship is the corrupted Police, Army, Judiciary and all the other State institutions which the dictator then uses to cover up and/or carry out the corruption, looting, vote rigging and even murders. The corrupt, looting, etc. will not seize just because Mugabe was finally booted out of State House.

So, until the reforms are implemented no real change will take place. Swapping one dictator for another will change nothing!
