 Toxicity forces Biti into early political exit

HARARE, Zimbabwe — Firebrand opposition activist and former Finance Minister Tendai Biti has called it a day in opposition politics marking an end to a dramatic two decades in the trenches fighting for political change in Zimbabwe.

Biti waltzed into opposition politics as a fierce human rights lawyer and became Member of Parliament in 2000 before he assumed the powerful Secretary General of the MDC-T in 2005. 

He was to be a vital cog for the MDC-T led by the late former opposition leader, Morgan Tsvangirai, as the chief negotiator leading the pack to a historic inclusive government dubbed the Government of National Unity (GNU) in 2008 to 2013 where he served as the Finance Minister.

Despite holding a colourful record in the "struggle", the toxicity in the opposition camp has finally pushed him into quitting.

“It’s embarrassing,” Biti told a local media outlet. “Particularly for people like me who have been in the trenches for a long time, who bear the scars of fighting.”

He accused some in the opposition camp of joining the feeding trough. 

“All of us, all of them are now waiting to receive vehicles, to get a call to go and see Victor. And that’s not good enough,” Biti said, in apparent reference to  a popular but infamous call by businessman Wicknell Chivayo in his vehicle donation crusade.

MDC leaders lost themselves during the GNU when Mugabe bribed them with the trappings of high office and the forgot about implementing reforms - the number one task the party was launched to do. As minister in the GNU Biti got a E-Class Mercedes Benz. 

Since the GNU debacle, he has participated in the flawed elections knowing that doing soo will give Zanu PF legitimacy and perpetuate the nation’s suffering. He did not care about that. He knew Zanu PF was giving away a few gravy train seats to entice the opposition to participate and that he could not resist!

Of course, Tendai Biti is a sell out. Zanu PF is still in power today because he and his fellow MDC/CCC leaders sold out on reforms and have been participating in flawed elections to perpetuate the dictatorship. History will know him for betraying the nation boy failing to implement any democratic reforms in 25 years including 5 GNU years. He and his fellow MDC/CCC sell outs can fcuk off the political stage. Go and good riddance!  

Why are millions of Zimbabweans refusing to accept Chamisa lied to con them to participate in flawed elections to perpetuate their own suffering? WHY? W Mukori

  Chamisa lied about plugging vote rigging loop hole to con people to participate in the flawed elections. He knew Zanu PF was rigging and that participating would give the regime legitimacy. 

The people themselves have been warned repeatedly of the sheer folly of participating in the flawed elections to give Zanu PF legitimacy and perpetuate their own suffering. They heard the warning but clearly did not understanding it. It is not all who hear who understand! 

2 million Zimbabweans heard and believed Chamisa’s idiotic lie and participated in the flawed 2023 elections. Mnangagwa and Zanu PF blatantly rigged the elections and the rest is history.

It is now 2 years since the rigged 2023 elections, the 2028 elections are 3 years away, and we are still failing to get the millions of Chamisa chete chete brigade to accept that Chamisa lied to them and they, in turn, were foolish to believe the idiotic lie! If we cannot get them to accept this simple truth then the warning of the folly of participating in flawed 2028 election will once again be heard but not understood. 

“Chiri muruoko, unorasiswa. Chawadya, unorutsiswa. Chiri mumusoro, unofa nacho!” so goes a Shona adage. 

Meaning: If it (what is wrong with you) is in your hand, you can be forced to throw it away. If it is in your stomach, you can be forced to vomit. If it is in your head, it will kill you!

Zimbabwe is a failed state because the nation is stuck with a corrupt, incompetent and murderous Zanu PF dictatorship for 45 years and counting. Zanu PF has blatantly rigged elections to stay in power although it must be said the regime would not have done so these last 25 years without the connivance of the corrupt, incompetent and utterly useless MDC/CCC. 

What is killing the nation is the millions of Zimbabweans out there who have yet to figure out the sheer folly of participating in flawed elections. They cannot comprehend the simple truth that Chamisa lied about plugging vote rigging loop holes because Zanu PF blatantly rigged 2023 elections - the very thing Chamisa said they would not do! If a simple statement of fact like that is incomprehensible what hope is there these people will comprehend the complexities of democratic reform, that the 2008 to 2013 was the golden opportunity to implement the reforms.

Man is a creature of reason but not all are capable of reasoning. In Zimbabwe millions are incapable of rational thought because a significant portion of their brain has ossified into fat tissue, for whatever reasons. They cannot think. “Chiri mumusoro unofa nacho!”

The real challenge is not to unite Africa but to deliver peace and prosperity to all within 1884 Berlin Conference orders. W Mukori

 The Berlin Conference happened  in 1884 - 1885; during the life time of my great grand father and his his generation. They were not invited to the conference nor were they in any way informed much less consulted on the consequences of the General Act of Berlin outcome. They had no say in the scramble for Africa in which the white colonial powers commandeered and looted from Africa without so much as by your leave!

It is a historic fact that the white man’s colonial occupation of Africa caused a lot of suffering and deaths and very little good, if any. This is not surprising since the relationship between the coloniser and the colonised was never one of equals.

The colonisers’ number priority was to exploit the colonised nations’ human and material resources to fuel Europe and North America’s industrial growth. The Berlin Conference was to ensure the free for all scramble for Africa’s resources orderly and amicable amongst the competing colonial powers. What each colonial power did in its colony was its own affair!

Some colonial nations did bring civilising influences and economic developments to their African colonies. Others were not so generous. 

My great grand father’s generation’s number one priority was to survive the colonial storm as best as they could. Some wage wars to drive out the white invaders out of the country with very little success, as history shows. 

However the continued ill treatment and exploitation of the Africans by the whites, was cause for biter racial hatred. Africans were third class citizens with no meaningful economic wealth and no political rights. The desire to end white colonial rule a.s.a.p. was a slow burning fire that never went out and was passed down from one generation to the next. 

The first and second World War distracted the colonial powers but, more significantly, it opened up the Africans the bigger world beyond that of mother Africa and the colonising nations. The whispered calls for independence after the 2WW grew louder and louder. China and Russia supplied the Africans with the diplomatic support in the quest for independence and, more importantly, with weapons with which to fight the white colonisers. And as each African country gained its independence the pressure to end colonial rule became an unstoppable tide!

The last African country to end white colonial rule was South Africa in 1994 one hundred and ten years since the 1884 Berlin Conference. 

Attaining independence was cause for great pride and joy for the oppressed and exploited Africans. Sadly the joy never last long for the overwhelming majority of Africans because their aspiration for freedom, justice, peace and economic prosperity were dashed. Most post-independence African rulers have turned out to be corrupt, incompetent and murderous thugs who care more about enriching themselves at the expense of the common good. 

A democracy index for Africa says it all; other than a few countries notably Mauritius scoring 8.14 out of 10, Botswana 7.73, SA 7.05 the overwhelming major are authoritarian states scoring 3 points or less. 

Some people have argued that African leaders had focused on ending white colonial rule and took their eyes off what was to happen the day-after. That is just a feeble excuse to justify the continent’s reputation of failing to govern ourselves. 

The repeated calls by some people for Africa to unite should be dismiss with the contempt it rightly deserve. Unity is not the panacea for the curse of rigged elections, corruption and breathtaking incompetence. If a leader like President Emmerson Mnangagwa of Zimbabwe has clearly failed to govern that country, for example, it is naive to think he would do a much better job governing SADC much less the whole of Africa! 

The one of the things founding fathers of Organisation for African Unity, the forerunner of African Union, got right was that Africans must not waste time, sweat and blood fighting over country borders. We must accept the borders we inherited from the hated Berlin Conference. We have more pressing issues to deal with than borders - delivering freedom, justice, peace and economic prosperity to all our people. 

The Berlin Conference country borders will melt away if there is peace and prosperity from Cape to Cairo and from Cape Verde in the west to the tip of the rhinoceros horn in Somalia. 

The scramble for Africa a walk in the park for the colonial powers because my great grand father and his generation of Africans had lagged behind the invading white hordes in terms of intellectually development. 

If we, in Africa, want to sit at the table as equal with anyone else on earth then we must earn that right by proving that we are just as competent in every field of human endeavour as anybody else out there. The tragic reality in most African countries today has white supremacists boasting they were right,  Africans are incapable of self-governing. We should be striving to do much, much more than prove the white supremacists wrong.

When ZEC released the first delimitation maps, they did not delete the metadata on the file, so we cld see who touched the maps. There were about 200 pple. We profiled them and 8 had PhDs and about 25 masters in GIS related work. Non were ZEC employees, most were at UZ or Govt depts. We looked at what each one was adding to the maps and you cld tell it was a fully orchestrated operation. 

The lessons from this:

1.⁠ ⁠We were not dealing with a ragtag team but well funded team with academic resources 

2.⁠ ⁠ZANU PF invests in power retention

3.⁠ ⁠The first changes had happened 3 yrs prior to 2023 elections, especially in Epworth - They play the long game

I have been following your writings and I can see the passion and the deep dislike you have for Nelson Chamisa. However, I want to advise you: let us not be too hard on him with insults or unnecessary abuse.

The truth is, Chamisa has done more to keep ZANU PF in power than all our combined efforts. Let us look at the facts:

Where else can you find an opposition leader who strengthens the ruling party by boycotting by-elections, effectively pushing for a one-party state?

Where else can you find an opposition leader who keeps forming new parties, confusing his own supporters time and again?

Where else can you find an opposition leader who disappears after elections, going on sabbatical when his supporters need him most?

Where else can you find a leader who substitutes real politics with endless Bible verses, stringing his supporters along with false hope?

Where else can you find a leader who squanders donations, like the infamous $120,000, proving to his supporters that he is corrupt?

Where else can you find an opposition leader who destroys his own party structures just to crown himself absolute ruler — showing his dictatorial tendencies?

Where else can you find an opposition leader so weak and non-aggressive?

This is the Chamisa effect. He is, without doubt, ZANU PF’s biggest political asset.

Therefore, our strategy must be clear: let us continue to write negatively about him — but with precision. The more we attack him, the more his supporters will believe he is the “true opponent” of ZANU PF. This keeps them tied to a weak leader who is, in fact, helping us stay in power.

If Chamisa quits politics, Zimbabwe might end up with a stronger opposition leader — and that would be disastrous for us.

Chambati is not the first Zanu PF leaders to acknowledge MDC/CCC are Zanu PF team B in all but name, Mnangagwa said the same thing at a public gathering attended by Zanu PF leaders and opposition leaders. “There is no friction between Zanu PF and the opposition. They are helping to keep Zanu PF in power whilst they stay in the opposition,” he boasted.

During the 2008 to 2013 GNU, Zanu PF cronies were asked why MDC leaders were not implementing any democratic reforms. “Mazivanhu eMDC adzidza kudya anyerere!” replied the cronies, drumming their chest with the self-adoration of the seasoned conman who has just pulled off his greatest conquest! 

MDC/CCC leaders have failed to implement even one token democratic reform in 25 years including the GNU years to dilute Zanu PF’s carte blanche dictatorial powers. And ever since the GNU debacle they have participated in flawed elections to give Zanu PF legitimacy and to perpetuate the nation’s suffering out of greed. 

Chamisa lied about “plugging all the Zanu PF vote rigging loop hole. #Godisinit!” to con 2 million to participate in the flawed 2023 elections. He even evoked the name of God in his idiotic lies. The 2m were foolish enough to believe the idiotic lie! 

True! You can fool SOME people ALL the time. Can fool ALL SOME of the time. But you cannot fool ALL the people ALL the time. There are growing signs that Chamisa will not be as successful in conning as many Zimbabweans to participate in flawed 2028 elections. This is what Chambati it talking about and hence instructing his Varakashi4ED brigades to box Chamisa with kid gloves!   

Chamisa & co. are Zanu PF team B fighting to keep team A in power. Zanu PF is smart enough to recognise how useful MDC/CCC have been to the regime and is offering Chamisa’s protection. “Chakanaka chakanaka mukaka haurungwi munyu!” as one would say in Shona!
