Zim Breaking News : Tendai Biti, Jameson Timba, Lovemore Madhuku, Douglas Mwonzora, Job Sikhala, Jacob Ngarivhume and Fadzayi Mahere have been taken to court following an urgent chamber application filed by Zanu-Pf activist Talent Rusere seeking a prohibitory interdict to restrain them from inciting public disorder over the Constitution Amendment Bill (No. 3) of 2026.
In the application filed at the High Court in Harare under Case Number HC/26, Rusere cites the seven individuals as the first to seventh respondents, with Minister of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Hon. Kazembe Kazembe named as the eighth respondent.
The applicant alleges that the respondents are wilfully misrepresenting the Constitution Amendment Bill by falsely claiming it requires a referendum, thereby causing public alarm and disorder.
According to the court papers, the Bill seeks to amend Sections 95 and 143 regarding Election Cycles (duration), which are not "entrenched" provisions that would mandate a referendum.
It see this just as another move by Zanu PF to keep the nation’s attention fixed on amendment No. 3 away from the substantive issue of rigged elections and that any electoral process without first implementing the reforms will too be rigged!
The case should have gone to the Constitutional Court since it hinges on what the constitution says!

The biggest mistake many Zimbabweans are making is to even think that if they stopped amendment No.3 going through it will be the panacea to all the nation's problems. Zanu PF has blatantly rigged elections without amendment No.3 and it like manner will rig the next and all future elections.
Zimbabwe's 2013 constitution is weak and feeble and hence the reason it has failed to deliver free and fair elections. Paul Mangwana, the Zanu PF co-chair of the parliamentary committee that drafted the constitution, boasted that Mugabe dictated it. It was not an empty boast!
Stopping amendment No.3 will not be enough to end the Zanu PF dictatorship; we must implement the democratic reforms to dismantle it!

The late Edison Zvobgo called this practice the Mozambique syndrome and Zanu PF has perfected this into an art. And 46 year of focusing on trivial matters at the expense of the substantive issues have taken their toll on the nation.
The constitutional amendment No. 3 is just another variation of Mozambique syndrome, it is a trivial matter compared to the substantive issue of the curse of rigged elections! Even if we stop the amendment going through until we finally implement the democratic reforms Zanu PF will rig the next and future elections and nothing will ever change!

SADC and AU did not declare 2008 elections free and fair and denied Zanu PF legitimacy. This is what forced Zanu PF to accept the GPA and the GNU. SADC and AU condemned 2023 elections as flawed and illegal but they could not deny the regime legitimacy because 2 million CCC brain dead supporters participated in the flawed elections. ReplyDeleteZanu PF has increased the number of Polling Stations (PS) from 10 per constituency in 2008 to over 50 in 2023. In 2008 people could vote in any of the constituency PS, in 2023 one could vote in the one designated PS. These changes have help Zanu PF officials to KNOW who voted for the party and who voted for the opposition.
There is no such thing as "Your vote is your secrete!" in Zimbabwe.
Blocking amendment No.3 will not end this core vote rigging tactic and many others like it! And it is these core vote rigging tactics that must be dealt with if we are serious about ending the curse of rigged elections and bad governance. Amendment No.3 is a distraction, drawing attention away from the core vote rigging problems.

Constitutional amendment No. 3 seeks to erode further the people's right to a meaningful say in the governance of the country. The operative phrase is "erode further" the people's vote. In other words stopping amendment No. 3 will stop Zanu PF getting more dictatorial powers but will NOT stop the regime rigging the next elections.
It is NOT enough fighting to stop amendment No. 3, we must fight for an independent ZEC, etc. is we are to finally cure ourselves of the curse of rigged elections and bad governance!

You should not commend on matters you do not understand, period. Zanu PF has increased the number of Polling Stations from 10 per constituency to 50 and replaced the constituency voters’ roll with a PS voters’ roll. The Zanu PF official will have the PS voters’ roll in advance and therefore will know most of the voters on the roll. One does not need to be a rocket scientist to see how Zanu PF be able to deduce with a high degree of accuracy who voted for the opposition. But, of course, this will not be so obvious to those who are mentally challenged!

However he lied when he added that "The heroic armed struggle under PF-Zapu and Zanu-PF delivered universal adult suffrage in 1980." Zimbabwe is a failed state precisely because Zanu PF has failed to hold free, fair and credible elections ever since the country's independence in 1980.
Zanu PF has denied the ordinary people a meaningful vote because the party thugs believe they have the divine right to rule the country.
Of course, Professor Jonathan Moyo KNOWS that Zanu PF has denied the ordinary Zimbabweans a meaningful vote and the right to own even a few acres of land on which their mud huts stand.
