Amendment 2026 WILL impose de jure dictatorship - substantive issue Moyo's ad hominem fallacy is avoiding. W Mukori

 @ Professor J Moyo

“BEWARE OF THE AD HOMINEM FALLACY IN THE DEBATE ON CONSTITUTION AMENDMENTS, 2026: Scoundrels, charlatans and misfits of society respond to SPEECH whose logic and facts they cannot disprove or match by DEMONISING and BESMIRCHING the SPEAKER.

An ad hominem fallacy, from the Latin phrase meaning "to the person," occurs in arguments when someone attacks the character, motives, personal traits or situation of the person making an argument, rather than addressing the substance or merits of the argument itself.

The purpose of the tactic is to divert attention from the actual issue, without engaging the argument's evidence or logic. The personal attack doesn't refute the point being made. An example of this is when an academic trained at the highest level and published in economics, Professor Gift Mugano, was mocked and demonised - by social media malcontents who could not engage the data and methodology involved - for technically highlighting the announcement by Zimbabwe Treasury and The Reserve Bank Zimbabwe that January 2026 marked the first single-digit annual inflation rate in the ZiG currency in over three decades - a transformative 4.1% year-on-year drop that signals significant economic revival in the country.

The mockery and demonisation to which Prof Mugano was subjected is called an ad hominem fallacy, to describe the fact that it fails to provide a substantive, technical and logical rebuttal. It is trite that sound arguments should stand or fall on their own evidence, not on who presents them. Relying on ad hominem fallacy in lieu of insightful commentary demonstrates one's intellectual poverty, as it avoids substantive and informing debate.

There are three common types of ad hominem fallacies, especially on social media platforms, such as these streets. One is "abusive ad hominem", which uses direct insults, for example, "You're a mercenary, so your evidence or analysis is worthless."

Another type is "circumstantial ad hominem", which involves attacking a person based on his or her social situation or affiliations, for example, "of course you'd say that - you are Zanu-PF."

There's yet another type best described as, "tu quoque ad hominem" (you too) based on purporting to point out one's hypocrisy, for example, "you are supporting the proposed constitution amendments today, but in 2018 you criticised President Mnangagwa and called him unelectable," which doesn't address the substance and merits of the amendments.

This third type of ad hominem fallacy is particularly rampant here on "X", where some TL Scavengers, who scavenge posts or tweets from a donkey's years ago and use them with reckless abandon as their only "data" - without context or relevance—against speakers whose speech, on a current and topical issue, they cannot competently engage or challenge with substance, logic and facts!”

Professor Jonathan Moyo is not saying anything new other than giving us a the Latin name, ad hominem fallacy, to something we have known all along. The late Edisson Jonas Mudadirwa Zvobgo called this ad hominem fallacy, the Mozambique syndrome.

"Whenever they (his fellow Zanu PF cronies) lost an argument when we were in Mozambique, they would accuse you of being CIA to avoid the substantive issues," he explained.

“Today they call you an American puppet to avoid responsibility.”

As Zanu PF’s chief strategist and propagandist, especially his days as Minister of Information, Professor Moyo horned and perfected Zimbabwe’s public media ad hominem fallacy tactics until they were as sharp as a Samurai sword! One memorable time when Professor Moyo and the Zanu PF propaganda machine was fully mobilised was in attacked Dr Nevers Mumba, the chair person of the SADC 2023 Zimbabwe Election Observer Mission.

“Conclusion 13.3

The SEOM (SADC Election Observer Mission) noted that, as detailed in sections 6 and 7 of this report, some aspects of the Harmonised Elections fell short of the requirements of the Constitution of Zimbabwe, the Electoral Act, and the SADC Principles and Guidelines Governing Democratic Elections (2021),” stated the SEOM report.

The torrent of criticism from Professor Jonathan Moyo and the Zanu PF hunting dogs were vicious and relentless but - as usual - never addressed the substantive issues that the 2023 Zimbabwe elections were flawed and illegal. Never!

The truth is these Zanu PF thugs may think avoiding the substantive issues is being smart. They are wrong. Zimbabwe is a failed state precisely because we have repeated the same ill-advised policies born out of a political system that stifle debate and all meaningful democratic competition.

The Mozambique syndrome allowed the scum like Mugabe and Mnangagwa to rise as party leaders at the expense of the cream, man like Edisson Zvobgo. 46 years of being ruled by the scum has let Zimbabwe a failed state whose economy is in ruins and millions of our people are living in abject poverty and millions more have left the country as economic and/or political refugee.

As SEOM report rightly pointed out, Mnangagwa blatantly rigged the 2023 elections and is, per se, illegitimate. He only got away with it because Chamisa & co. conned millions of their followers to participate in flawed elections. It is an outrage that he should be seeking to extend his illegitimate stay in State House.

The Zimbabwe Constitution Amendment 2026 seek to extend not only Mnangagwa’s stay in State House but the 5 year term of office of MPs and Senators to 7 years just to avoid the up coming 2028 elections. Zanu PF rigged 2023 elections and, with not even one reform implemented, was certain to rig 2028 too. However the regime is not so confident it will get away with it this time.

Chamisa has lost a lot of political credibility following his pathetic antics during the 2023 elections. Millions believed his idiotic lie of plugging vote rigging loop holes and participated in the flawed elections to give Zanu PF legitimacy. Many of the brain dead Chamisa chete chete brigade members have finally accepted that Chamisa lied to them. The penny has finally dropped. Chamisa was not going to con millions to participate in 2028 elections that much is clear as day!

Mnangagwa is a buffoon but he is not that stupid he cannot read the writing on the wall. The only way for Zanu PF to retain its iron grip on power is by pushing through Amendment 2026! And Professor Jonathan Moyo knows that too and being the master of ad hominem fallacy, tu quoque ad hominem fallacy, etc.; he gave us a lecture on all these fallacies without addressing the substantive issue - Amendment 2026 will deny the people of Zimbabwe their fundamental right to a meaning say in the governance of the country, the final nail in the people’s coffin, and making Zimbabwe a de jure dictatorship.

"If there is one thing I do not regret, it's quitting the sham parliament!" said Fadzayi Mahere. Whay a hypocrite!

She participated in the flawed elections knowing fully well that doing so would give the vote rigging Zanu PF legitimacy. Even after SADC confirmed the elections were rigged she took up her gravy train seat out of greed and contemptuous disregard of the tragic consequences including perpetuating the nation's suffering.

She did not resign her MP seat because she suddenly realise this was a "sham parliament". She resigned because Sengezo Tshabangu started recalling CCC leaders and feared that she would be next.

She would participate in the next elections even if no reforms are implemented to give Zanu PF legitimacy and perpetuate the nation's suffering. She cannot wait! She does not care about the people never did!

“I am sure Jonathan is feeling the heat of staying in exile. He desperately wants to come back home. In hindsight, there was no need to create a Lacoste-G40 scenario without thinking about the consequences. There is a time in life when you must learn to think ahead all the time - what Jonathan cannot do with all the intelligence we are told he has!”

The willingness of some of our intelligentsia to do Mugabe and/or Mnangagwa dirty bidding is something this nation must be ashamed of. When the men and women who should be leading at doing the right things are selling their mothers for a price and even boast that they had a mother to sell, you know the nation is doomed!

“ZIMBABWEANS PLACE THEIR HOPES ON PRES CHAMISA FOR A PEOPLE DRIVEN GOVT!”

This is blind hope! Chamisa has not only failed to implement even one token reform to end the Zanu PF dictatorship in 26 years but has even been conning people to participate in flawed elections to give Zanu PF legitimacy and thus perpetuate the dictatorship. He lied about plugging vote rigging loop holes to con them to participate in flawed 2023 elections perpetuating the dictatorship.

Zimbabwe is stuck in this hell-on-earth economic and political mess because Chamisa and co. sold out. Chamisa is corrupt, incompetent, a liar and a conman. What will it take open your eyes, for Pete’s sake?

Chamisa has returned from his two year sabbatical leave to lie and con people to participate in the next flawed elections with the same tragic consequences.

Nations get the government they deserve. Zimbabweans deserve this corrupt and tyrannical Zanu PF dictatorship complete with its corrupt and utterly useless MDC/CCC opposition side-kick!

“The attacks on Professor Jonathan Moyo for now supporting President Mnangagwa miss a fundamental point: the greatest leaders in history evolved their positions as circumstances changed.

Churchill crossed party lines twice when national interest demanded. Mandela negotiated with his jailers. Lincoln shifted on emancipation.

Professor Moyo was a fierce critic, yes. That was then. Today, under the Second Republic, Zimbabwe has grown from a US$20 billion to a US$52 billion economy. Inflation is stabilized. Infrastructure is visible nationwide. Peace prevails.”

Nonsense! Professor Jonathan Moyo made a mountain out of a molehill of those who had criticised Professor Gift Mugano’s claim that Zimbabwe inflation was down to single digits playing the same ad hominem fallacy himself. He ignored the substantive issue this constitutional amendment will deliver - usurping the ordinary people’s fundamental right to a meaningful say in the governance of the country.

Nick, you should wash your foul mouth with bleach; you cannot put great leaders like Nelson Mandela on par with Mnangagwa. The former truly believed in freedom, justice and prosperity for all South Africans. Mnangagwa has paid lip service to all that, all he cares about is absolute power.

“A year on from the coup that ousted Robert Mugabe, Zimbabwe remains perched between piecemeal reform and old ways that are as intractable as they are destructive. That’s because the country is ruled by a clique with a partial and conditional commitment to change—and a total, obdurate determination to retain and enjoy power,” wrote Stuart Duran in ASPI Strategist.

“The ‘new’ regime can be viewed from different angles, but the nub of it is this: there’s a recognition that the economic fiasco of the last 20 years was suboptimal, but Emmerson Mnangagwa and his fellow travellers will burn the house down if they feel it necessary. Make no mistake, their will to power is every bit as intense as Mugabe’s—as is their belief that they own the country’s choicest fruits by right of conquest.”

MNANGAGWA AND HIS ZANU PF CRONIES WORKED TIRELESS DURING THE GNU TO ENSURE THE 2013 CONSTITUTION WAS WEAK AND FEEBLE ALLOWING ZANU PF TO RIG ELECTIONS AND RETURN POLITICAL POWER. RIGGING THE PRESIDENTIAL VOTE IS PROVING MORE AND MORE DIFFICULT AND SO, THROUGH AMENDMENT 2026, HE IS STRIPPING THE PEOPLE’S RIGHT TO VOTE FOR THE PRESIDENT! HE IS BURNING THE CONSTITUTION!

You cannot deny that the GNU did offer a golden opportunity to implement the democratic reforms which would have dismantled the Zanu PF dictatorship once and once for all. Why did we fail to implement even one token reform?

  6. Topic: Constitution amendment 2026 is but one consequence of Zimbabwe being a failed state. Must deal with bone fracture, failed state, and not just the bruise!

"My question is what must we do, who ,how ,when time is not on our side."

My point exactly! We are a failed state because we have always been in a hurry to address the easy and obvious problem - the bruise - and failing to deal with the underlying bigger problem - the broken bone.

One of the conman's favourite trick is to make his victim panic and stampede him/her into a decision, sign the dotted line. Sign in a hurry and regret the rest of their life!

Zimbabwe is a failed state because the nation has been stampeded from one bad decision into another, blundering from pillar to post. After 46 years of blundering from pillar to post it is high time for some sober and rational thinking!

"Your opinion which I respect however today we have what is glaring in everyone "s face I believe we should be looking at what likely to affect our future more than concentrating on what should have or what happened
My take is that there is a strong probability that people in the diaspora are going to die there and a few will be back in zim in coffins."

Meaning what? That if they had never left Zimbabwe, like you, they would have lived forever?

Address the issues raised! Tsvangirai failed to implement even one token reform during the GNU because Mugabe bribed the MDC leaders. "Mazivanhu eMDC adzidza kudya anyerere" boasted Zanu PF cronies when asked why MDC leaders were not implementing reforms. These are the historic fact and all this eulogising about Tsvangirai "fighting for democracy" is just bulls***t from the brain dead supporters!

Chamisa & co. have been participating in flawed elections to give Zanu PF legitimacy out of greed. Zimbabweans have refused to acknowledge this reality because they do not want to deal with difficult issues. The irony is that MDC/CCC leaders themselves have admitted it and pretend they do not know.

“The worst aspect for me about the failure to agree a coalition was that both MDCs couldn’t now do the obvious - withdraw from the (2023) elections. The electoral process was so flawed, so illegal, that the only logical step was to withdraw, which would compel SADC to hold Zanu PF to account. But such was the distrust between the MDC-T and MDC-N that neither could withdraw for fear that the other would remain in the elections, winning seats and giving the process credibility,” confessed David Coltart in his Book, The Struggle Continues 50 years of Tyranny in Zimbabwe.

We like to bury our heads in the sand! We like to walk on sewage and many are even drinking it, and think it normal!

You risk being called a puppet (by Zanu PF) or murakashi (by opposition) if you dare rock the boat by talking about Zimbabwe being a failed state. Zimbabweans do not like to hear that Zanu PF is corrupt or that Chamisa is a liar and conman.

‘Zimbabweans have demonstrated remarkable ability in analysing and debating our political and economic challenges on social media platforms. We articulate our frustrations eloquently, dissect policies thoroughly, and expose injustices with great precision. In this regard, our level of awareness is commendable.

However, when it comes to formulating practical, united, and actionable solutions and committing ourselves to implementing them, we fall dangerously short. We struggle to translate online discussions into organised civic action, strategic engagement, and sustainable national development initiatives.

As a nation, we must move beyond commentary and outrage. Critical thinking without structured action is ineffective and dead. If we do not transform our collective intelligence into disciplined organisation, policy-driven advocacy, and accountable leadership, we risk remaining spectators in our own country’s decline.

The time has come for Zimbabweans to shift from analysis to action, from complaint to construction, and from criticism to credible solutions. We need a formidable opposition political party or grouping with a resolute, determined leader.’

We have been participating in flawed elections to give Zanu PF legitimacy and perpetuate the dictatorship and the nation’s suffering because we believed idiotic lies like “I have plugged all vote rigging loop holes to stop Zanu PF rigging the elections.” This bespeaks of a nation that has acted without careful thought - the exact opposite of what you are saying above!

There has been a lot of noise on social media, I agree, but you should not mistake noise with quality debate. Name one instance were Zimbabweans have “dissected policies thoroughly”?

Indeed, the reason why we have blundered from pillar to post is because we have always come up with wishy-washy policies. We prefer unity and action to truth and rational debate and, when we fail, are always in a hurry to action without a clear idea why we failed!

46 years of participating in flawed elections and we do not even have the common sense to admit this is insane!

Constitution amendment 2026 is very serious and important matter but compared to stopping Zanu PF rigging the elections and getting away with it it but the bruise to the broken bone. To treat the bruise and keep ignoring the broken bone is an outrage.

Tendai Biti and any of his MDC/CCC fiends will make a big song and dance about fighting amendment 2026 and are not interested in ending the curse of Zanu PF rigging elections and getting away with it. They have failed to implement even one token reform in 26 years and ever since the GNU debacle they have participated in flawed elections to give Zanu PF legitimacy. They will participate in the next elections whether or not amendment 2026 goes through.

The Zanu PF faction fighting to stop amendment 2026 are fighting to stop Mnangagwa staying in power beyond 2028. If their preferred candidate was to be the Zanu PF candidate, by hook or by crook, they will flip and support amendment 2026!

Amendment 2026 is but a skirmish the war is ending the curse of rigged elections; we have lost that war for 46 years and must not lose the next one for the sake of winning a skirmish!
